Weird, just logged in on PS5 after 2.01 patch and it's autocompleted 9 base game trophies that i definitely haven't done including gigs and scanner hustles in all districts, an ending that i haven't seen, second heart and berzerk cyberware that i've never used. Moved me from Dogtown to the pre final mission balcony location too.
Something went wrong with that corrupted saves fix I maybe?

This article making a big deal out of development budget for Phantom Liberty being US$60 million are kind of ignoring that the base game sold 25million, so probably took 1-2 billion dollars. Phantom Liberty turned profit on launch day. www.kotaku.com.au/2023/10/cd-projekt-red-spent-over-120-million-saving-cyberpunk-2077s-reputation/What it made me realise though is, when it says dev of the base game cost us$185 million, why they released it so unfinished. Imagine being 185million in the hole and just shitting your pants over whether the game will turn a profit (despite the likelihood given the hype). They’d clearly have made a lot more money overall if they’d waited (as a lot of those 25 million sales were heavily discounted) but that must have been the gamble, let the budget pile higher and higher with no guarantees or put the game out too early and use the profits to finish it.

They must also know what their pre-orders are like, which I assume for Cyberpunk were pretty massive, likely being a significant proportion of their first month sales. They surely must have known when the released the game in the state they did that a whole lot of that pre-order money, which should be considered as money in the bank, would quickly turn into money to pay for all the refunds*
*Having said that, that does make me wonder something I haven't considered. Who foots the bill for those refunds? The store the game is purchased from in the first instance, obviously, but are they able to get any kind of compensation from the publisher/developers?

hmmm, the patch seems to have borked my install on Series X, it's forced a download of the base game and uninstalled Phantom Liberty.
edit: yeah, have to reinstall phantom liberty after forcing a download of it from the in-game menu, if anyone else has this issue

Witcher 1 almost bankrupted the company. like it was barely being able to pay their current bills and forget paying off the loans. Hence why game got little rushed. Great sales in Poland and rest of Europe allowed to put money into extended edition allowing them to break even. not sure about any profit though but they broke even on a game which exceeded sales expectations by a huge margin. then witcher 2 almost did the same. I do not remember if it was as close but boy did they put all their eggs in one basket with that game. Witcher 3 was safe. complete failure of the game would have destroyed the company but that was extremely unlikely, even subpar sales would have allowed the whole company (including gog, polish local publisher, professional software developer) to survive. So I think they got little scared with CP77. it was going to be a repeat of Witcher 2. Just getting more and more expensive, preorders being cancelled with new delays and stock market being pissed at them for those delays. Were scared that if they keep pouring money the hype will die and again will have a situation where if they do not meet sales targets they might be done. Hence the release in semibroken but functional state. if sales are still huge they can patch it, if they are subpar, move on with new smaller project, still allowing company to survive. my interpretation on why the game was not delayed further.

Jeez the ps5/series X versions are pretty ugly Vs the max pc settings. Just seen it running it's all its glory, so stunning. Cyberpunk 2077 is pretty much a tech demo for NVidia's latest technologies. Considering the consoles all run AMD GPU's, that's not really that surprising.

Updated to the 2.01 patch today on steam. Not sure what happened but it's now stuck in some annoying install loop since it downloaded the update. I don't have the PL DLC either so not sure what's going on.

I think it's also a reflection of how massive CD Projekt are now that they could even have such a disastrous launch of a flagship title and still survive.
Also, a big part of their business model is trust. Gamers _love_ CD Projekt because they support their games long after release and produce excellent DLC, which the rest of the industry is mostly terrible at doing. Rescuing Cyberpunk is completely necessary for the future of Witcher 4 and anything else that follows, more so than other companies. Everyone knows Ubisoft uses shitty practices with Ass Creed etc. If CD Projekt pivoted to more financially oriented, less consumer focussed methods there would be a massive backlash.
Patch 2.00 is basically: look guys, we fucked up, but we always make it up to you. Please remember this and not the CP2077 launch when we release Witcher 4...

Tbf the pc version, which I have played in path tracing mode is essentially what you would call a next gen game so it's never going to compare favourably. The console versions is, without those enhancements, one of the best looking games out there.

Is it worth getting it if I'm just now working through the base game or should one complete the main story first?

The console versions is, without those enhancements, one of the best looking games out there. I'm playing it on PC at the moment (no Phantom Liberty, yet) and it does have moments where it looks stunning. But, probably by nature of what it is, there is quite a bit of roughness there too. I'm playing Miles Morales on PC as well at the moment ahead of Spider-Man 2 in a couple of weeks and I honestly think it is a much better looking game, particularly in cutscenes, even if it is technically not quite the match. The animation and characters just look infinitely better. Sure, when you stop and look at reflections they don't look quite right and its lighting is far less varied, with Spider-Man being a consistently bright game, but in motion it is clearly more polished. Looking forward to seeing how Alan Wake 2 handles path tracing. It being a much more directed experience, I expect it will put Cyberpunk to shame. Outside of graphics, I also kind of wish Cyberpunk weren't an open world game. The city is very well realised, but I find myself enjoying the set pieces and the main missions a lot more than the dicking about in the city bits.

I like Night City, it's really well realised and Dogtown is a great addition even though it's quite small. There's so much geometry going on its quite silly at times.

I finally got around to playing this now. After waiting on patches, getting an RTX card, then for the DLC. I've been enjoying it so far, it's all really well realised. I kinda wish some of the immersive sim functionality was ramped up a touch, around stealth mostly. Just a few more options and ways through buildings.
It's really reminding me of Bloodlines in a good way, atmospheric, well written, characters are realised so well. Night City feels like an actual place, full of alleyways and such.
Also it's gorgeous, but it's killing my CPU. Still my 3060ti is mostly handling Ray Tracing Ultra at 1080p

Wow, that Lizzy party music scene was brilliant... had to re-load and watch it a couple of times from different angles, wish I had been there live, which I was I guess but you know what I mean. www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jtjEKimj8E

I reloaded and the icon had gone. I think it's actually the reload icon, but it had gotten stuck on screen. Just unlocked Dog Town. I might go and do the rest of the side quests first though.

It does have one with the chevrons pointing upwards though and that is for the hydration status (increased max stamina and recharge). Might be the opposite of that.

I'm very late to the party with this, but I just found a nod to Portal in a side-quest last night. Brilliant.

It might mean something else in other contexts, and I don't know why there isn't an ingame guide, but that's the indicator that a tech weapon is at full charge. if you've got the perk that keeps them from automatically firing it'll stay on screen while you keep the trigger depressed.
Relatedly, the blink-and-you'll-miss-it icon for a Bolt shot is three chevrons going up.

Aah, that makes some sense. I don't have that perk (due to wanting to use Bolt Shots I would rarely want to hold charges) and that icon was on screen during a none combat section. Might have just bugged out. Never noticed the Bolt Shot icon, blink and you miss it indeed! Unrelated, but I'm 55 hours in and still haven't actually started Dog Town. Just happily mopping up gigs and side jobs, a fair few of which I'd missed / not bothered with. I'm already looking forward to a new play through as I want to try a different build... Yeah I can respec but then I'd have nothing to really use the spec in. My runner V is feeling pretty op now tbh, basically taking down enemies without even firing a shot. Might have to raise the difficulty again.

Relatedly, the blink-and-you'll-miss-it icon for a Bolt shot is three chevrons going up. Huh? The guide I posted above shows three chevrons going up (in red) is the hydration status effect. There is also three chevrons pointing right that is cold blood stacks (speed boost after kills). How many different chevron icons do they need?! The iconography in this game is even worse than Dead by Daylight.

The iconography is pretty bad but if they just included a glossary it would go a long way to fixing it...

Although It makes me feel like an old man to say it I would love a physical manual for this game. Preferably ring bound.
