It's weird how different people's perception of stuff is. I honestly don't know how you can flick between the modes and not think it looks a lot better on RT mode. The extra depth to everything, the massively improved character lighting, the realistic reflections. Performance mode looks washed out and shit to my eyes.

He just said he's using a Series X... Haha yes indeed! Doh. Yeah the Xbox screenshots and videos all look shit even when choosing the best settings. I think that the RT mode looks way better.

Like I said, I can flick to and fro between the screenshots and there’s barely a difference. Certainly not in character lighting, and the reflections look just the same. I am quite confused.

Yeah, it's working now.
That's how it seems to me too. I can notice some slight differences. You mentioned the shadows are a bit better. Yeah, sometimes in performance mode it might not show your own shadow where it's there in RT mode. And it could be a placebo effect, but the neon lights seem brighter in RT mode too, but for the most part, the changes on console are slight. Not worth halving the framerate, IMO.
On PC though, with a fuller RT pass and DLSS to help with performance, it's night and day.

Glad I am not the only one. I see a massive IQ difference in Forza Horizon, I played Control with 30 fps, I easily see the difference in Miles Morales and Jak & (Edit: Ratchet, not J&D, Christ, :-D), but just not here.
Mind, the missing neon light above the door is just because it’s flickering.

Slightly better shadows is massively underselling it imo. The real-time shadows completely change the look and feel of each location, and when a big part of the game is trying to capture a Blade Runner aesthetic they make a huge difference. Without them everything looks flat and washed out.

Are you playing on console decks? I can’t really see any difference at all..

Ok just took this. Honestly I think the realistic shadows and reflections add a huge amount to the aesthetic of the location. It looks much more gamey and flat in performance mode. And for a game that a huge part of its attraction is capturing that Blade Runner feel it's a massive difference for me. Plus it controls like shit in either mode so it's a lot easier to take the performance hit than on something like Control.

Incidentally that's pretty much how I play the game.

Can't say that makes me think of Blade Runner exactly. Also the NPCs look like bumper cars

The Montreal Deus Ex games resemble Blade Runner more, IMO. This reminds me more of Ghost in the Shell or Neuromancer.

Ha, yeah. I tried to concentrate on the differences but all I could take notice of was the NPC's pinging off each other like they weren't aware a single other human existed in this universe.

Yeah my vision is so much worse than when I was 30. At thirty I had such good vision now I have to wear glasses when gaming or it looks like 720p

This is unironically my reason for not upgrading my telly from 1080p.

Probably worth highlighting that reflections are the same in either performance or fidelity, it’s only ray tracing the shadows, not the lighting or reflections.

Yeah, but it’s so minor I honestly can’t tell the difference, and I have a BIG EXPENSIVE 75” SCREEN NOT FOR PEASANTS
Don’t get me wrong, I think the shadows alone do a decent job of adding better depth and subtleness, I’m just struggling that it’s really worth the trade off when actually playing, unlike something like GotG or Horizon FW.

Gremmi with the Mod money there. Does that 75 inch link to anywhere else?

Fired it up for first time since Jan 2021. Forgot how much I was enjoying it. Incredible graphics. Easily the best I've seen.

Yes we came to the conclusion that it has better SSR three posts earlier.

I’ve found the RT effect almost akin to watching a crappy LCD/LED screen and then stepping up to a display with decent black levels (NOT a stealth OLED overlords post, ;-D - also includes decent nanoLED etc). Shadows looked more grounded, just adds a little more dimension to the overall look.
