Started playing this last night on PS5 with no previous experience of playing it before, and no experience of the table top game, so essentially with zero baggage. So far I’m having an extremely good time with it. It looks fantastic and the game world seems super detailed and believable. Done a few missions and found those very enjoyable. It’s quite clunky in the same way all FPRPGS are (Skyrim, Fallout etc) and the combat is shit again like all those games, but overall it’s been excellent. It‘s a great game, with some of the best characters and dialogues in the genre - it‘s no coincidence that the PC version (the only review code that was available) got such high ratings. The whole fiasco with the console versions as well as the fact that it‘s not a future GTA (which I personally never expected) ruined its reputation far beyond what it deserved. I also love the scale of the city, it‘s one of the few games that gets the look/scale of skyscrapers right. I found it even reasonable good as a shooter, Not quite as clunky as Fallout etc, imo!

Yeah, I'm having loads of fun. Came across one of their Twitch shills last night, the likeness was pretty good.

I don't think anyone was expecting it to be GTA but to put out openworld game with completely broken openworld mehcanics got them the criticism they deserved. It seems in a lot better shape now (a year on) but it was an absolute mess when I played it on release.

Just finished the Des mission, loving the story and the city is stunning. Glad I waited for the update to play it.

Yeah I'm glad I got a refund. Feels a lot better playing the game when it isn't falling apart at the seams every 5 minutes.

I did play some of it on release (PS4 and PC versions) but kept encountering bugs which kept forcing me to reload older saves and repeat missions, and there's only so many times I can put up with that shit.
Got the series x version from argentina for £14 so will revisit it at some point.

Surprised how much effort seems to have gone into the haptics and triggers, the guns all feel great.
I'd also forgot how rubbish Keanu is.

The city definitely feels way more alive than before, which is nice.

Spent a couple of hours with it in RT mode and it feels alright. Tweaked the settings and set to Dolby Vision - Game mode and it looks nice, definitely busier than before and I think I’ll stick with it for now.
Stopped me considering H:FW for a bit…

Yeah I'm used to RT mode now. Feels fine once you mess with the controller settings and it looks amazing at times. Really enjoying it actually, glad I held off.

Did three and a half hours of the demo tonight, mix of starting new and carrying on with my save from 2020 (!).
I do like it a fair bit, looks incredible and I like the vibe. Still a bit of incidental jank- cars leaping into the air and blinking in and out of existence, Police are pointless, NPC’s occasionally get caught in weird angled poses etc, but the controls, fucking fuckety twatting fuck, the controls. I hate them. Have done some of the tweaks mentioned previously and I still feel they’re off and they’re at their worst when scoped. It’s like I’m suddenly made of ice- skittering from one side of an opponent to the other, never settling. Gunfights are a chore.
It’s a lot more coherent now and I’d probably buy it but Assetto Corsa Conpetizione has a PS5 update Tuesday and then there’s Elden Ring and GT7. It’s only £20 but I just know I won’t touch it.

The quest with the death row chap was really really good I thought. That and the one with the politician and his wife.

Politician & wife was one of my favourites. Dark.
Also rivers(?) quest line. Been a year since I have played it, but that was great.
Actually quite a lot of them were interesting tbh. It's a good game, just need impetus to go back & give a few more endings a go.
New missions/dlc would also help tempt me back.

It definitely doesn't feel like a big, empty city, but one that's teeming with life, people and things to do. I drove slowly back into the city from the Badlands last night. It was 3am (game time) when I set out and nearly 7am when I got back to MegaTower 8 and you could feel the traffic and the people slowly building up as the city awoke. Really impressive.

I've just started playing in earnest after an initial abortive attempt a few months ago, and I'm digging it pretty hard.
Its not particularly difficult to win me over by going sci-fi cityscape but I do think they have specifically nailed that grimy shimmering haze of scifi that works for me, to the extent that I've been perfectly happy just walking around the city sans car, crashing into other pedestrians because I'm mostly looking up.
I do wonder what it is about the gig economy that rejects refuse collection as a way to earn a living in this town. It almost feels like they've chosen to live in trash as part of the city's collective identity. I also feel a bit like this aesthetic is something you might get if you packed up all the people who are or aspire to be in The Only Way Is Essex and stuck them altogether in a city block.
But yeah, its cool. Its still not free of bugs; after finishing a mission a spent some time with a guy who had embedded himself in the pavement, and one guy floating two feet off it while waiting to cross the road. I witnessed a supposedly unarmed Jackie having multiple pistols both grafted to his hands, and flying around him at random. These may be the most 'punk' things the game has to offer. I find myself not minding much at all. I'm about to enter the big leagues, after all.

I played it at launch, and during that big initial mission with Jackie, both his guns disappeared, so he spent the entire time doing finger-guns at the bad guys

This is where I gave up on my initial play through at release. I should be able to do this mission pretty soon so I'll see how far it's come on.

I feel like the working solution, anytime something like this happens in CP2077, is to get up, locate a nearby person (ideally in your house, but if not available a neighbour), and scream at them 'so fucking punk', and then leave, providing no further context. Then go back to playing the game.

I got a fair few hours in to this at launch but decided to stop when it was clear it wasn't ready. I started again from scratch but luckily it's been a year so whilst it's slightly familiar I can't remember all the story beats.
Really enjoying it. Playing in RT mode with the control tweaks mentioned here and at times it's stunning. I was driving back from a mission as the sun came up over the city and had to stop and get out. Noticed a few people are now playing it on my friends list too. Be interesting to see how many people have picked it back up or dove in since the patch.

While the game was probably the buggiest game I ever played at launch, there's only two that really stick out. One of them was late game, the other was early but pretty spoilery so I'll hide it. Don't click the spoiler bar if you haven't met Johnny Silverhand yet. So the non-spoilery one was there's a mission later on where you have to meet one of Johnny's old bandmates in a club, and there's an early NPC you meet, Dum Dum, that's supposed to guard the door and let you in. Well, he didn't show up for me, so I was stuck with the "enter the club" prompt, but no actual way in. I think it was a side mission though, so I think at the time I just progressed the main story until the quest was patched, which might have been only a few days later. Now the spoilery one: So that first main mission, at Arasaka tower. After you fight you get the engram and fight your way out, there's a big car chase and Jackie dies. At this point, the game crashed and I was forced to reload. So I do, and the autosave is after his death, but the car is now vertical and Jackie is impaled at the hood of the car. So what's meant to be this emotional moment just looks silly.

I've played a little Shadowrun tabletop RPG. This plays much like I would imagine that. Which is good.
Genuinely surprised there are so many detractors with the state the game is in now. Should've launched in a decent state and not on last gen, but still.

Bought it with 7 minutes left of the demo. It’s good, some jank still but I love the vibe and there’re shades of some of the great Witcher 3 missions already in the 5/6 hours I’ve played.
I’ll probably park it and play it later in the year but it’s obvious it’s moving in the right direction (toward the game that was promised in the first place).

I’ve just made screenshot of the trial version on the Series X, with and without ray tracing. There’s barely any difference even if switch back and forth between the shots , other than slightly nicer shadows. I am confused which huge difference some of you see here - not seen another game with 30 and 60 fps modes yet where the difference was so minor. The lighting as such, the reflections, everything seems to be the same.

Ok, I’ve found an, er, foggy/dusty floor whereby the volumetric fog looks better in RT mode, but compared to Control the differences are tame.
