Yeh it's interesting. I see that the limit is supposedly for 6 months only but what's to say they won't bring in their friends and do what you accuse them of doing after 6 months? Is there data that lends truth to that? Young parents with kids would prob be exempt so you're only targeting passengers around the drivers age, well what's the limit on that? Can they be 1 year older? Younger? 2 years, 5? How could it ever be enforced?
The elderly retaking tests I'm somewhat more in favor of? Some are more capable than others but think we can say that come 80+ years old you're not gonna be as responsive.

In some countries you have to retake tests regularly. Not sure that's needed, but over 75 it seems reasonable, plus a requirement for medical conditions to be reported.
I used to drive like a nutter at age 18, but whether there were mates in the car or not wasn't a big factor. (Playing GTA3 just before and listening to the Prodigy was probably a bigger factor). Though I guess if you roll your car when there's 5 people in then there's a potential for more death than if there's just one person in.
If some other countries have similar laws, it'd be interesting to know how they enforce them. Maybe just the existence of the law and the threat of occasional spot checks is enough to have an impact?

I think testing should be done every 5-10 years. For all age groups.
Unfortunately there's no logistical way of doing it due to number of assessor, costs, etc.

I'm not really sure on the details, but the way it's done over here is you have 2 or 3 different 'colors/grades' of license.
You have to go for a short re-training (mainly video I think) every 4 years or so, but if you keep a clean license you get bumped up to a gold license, and I think maybe you don't have to go for 8 years or something. If you get too many points you get bumped down and have to do more stuff more often. Not sure how useful the videos with the cops are tbh, but as you say, full retesting would be a bit tricky. There is of course a renewal fee, so I guess that covers the costs. The main flaw with it is that Tokyo has a *lot* of paper drivers, who all have Gold licenses due to never getting points because of never driving, and I'd bet most of them are awful drivers. There are different rules for the elderly, but I don't know if retesting is compulsory. There was a big voluntary drive to get over 80s to hand back their licenses a few years back. Offered them a bunch of coupons or something.

Interesting data. To be fair to the question in the tweet, there were discussions a few weeks back about annual/regular testing for older drivers, as they already do in several other countries Sorry, got to put my More or Less hat on...
That graph only indicates the people injured or killed, it does not indicate blame. Older people are at greater risk of death in collisions so that will bias that chart.
The DFT data from the same report as that chart shows that old people are only a small amount worse than everyone else on the road. Cognitive ability is the major one that needs nailing down. Fix that, and get all other age groups to slow down and we'll all be safer out there.
The DFT acknowledge that there may be bias (both directions) in the cause stats due to them being based on a police officer's opinion of the cause and that the majority of causes recorded are not the subject of thorough investigation.

That tweet annoys me due to using the term "two tier". Even if it's used correctly (which I'd argue it isn't in this case) it's just one of those phrases I now can't help but associate with tabloid reading cunts, after the incessant parroting of "two-tier Kier."

Had a breakin at an old job; they stole one laptop and a wheel of cheese from the lunch room. Plenty of other computer stuff around, valuable tools and machinery, but nope, they took our cheese.

Its been such a tease that Devil’s Climb been on NatGeo and Disney+ in the States but not over here yet. I love Caldwell and Honnold, two of my favourite athletes in any sport.

I don't know much about Caldwell - although I watched (and enjoyed) The Dawn Wall - but I've been an admirer of Honnold's for years.
I think I first heard about Honnold when Dean Potter died, which sent me down the rabbit hold of reading all I could find about climbing.
Will definitely check out the Devil's Climb doc once it's available over here.

I don't have much respect or love for the Free Solo guy, but I generally like these documentaries for the scenery and photography. So yeah, I'll give this new one a watch!
