Didn't some US chess(?) nerd die over there some years back and show signs of torture after sneaking out exploring. It was claimed as an unfortunate series of medical issues if I recall correctly.

I think that's a bit hyperbolic, I know quite a few vegan people who arev pretty healthy - healthier than me for sure.
I've never heard of Zhanna D'Art before but reading that article it's clear she had eating disorders and a restrictive diet that isn't what most vegans eats.
(I'm not a vegan or even vegetarian)

There's a documentary on Netflix called The Game Changers, about the effect and benefit going vegan had on their lives.
It seemed quite convincing. I know I couldn't do it at the moment, but I'd be tempted one day.

To be honest I'm dubious about that, if somebody is drinking a lot of juice as by all accounts she was that would provide enough water. The amount of sugars, even if they're natural could be a concern, but from a hydration point of view it wouldn't be an issue.
The whole "must drink 8 glasses of water a day" thing is overblown. It was discussed on the Curious Cases of Rutherford and Fry. Water is essential, absolutely, but water can be easily obtained from juice, tea, soup etc. It's also a massive load of woo that drinking loads of water helps draw out "impurities".
The kidneys filter 200 litres of blood per day, 4 litres of water will do fuck all to help.

Netflix documentaries need to be taken with a big pinch of salt. Fact checking and balance isn't their strong point.
They still haven't edited Seaspiracy even though the scientist whose data they used said it was wrong and others have called the data "unrealistic extrapolation way beyond the bounds of available data".
