He gets some details wrong, the sub had been used at 4000m plenty of times, but he explains why so much of the basic design of it was bad and the company had some odd ideas. The CEO was onboard so I doubt he'll learn anything, the conclusion is brutally honest.

That whole thing is top drawer: Drama, successful businessmen, billionaires and heirs in jeopardy in a crappy submarine they got bolted into.
I recon some shenanigans are at play. After all, who could possibly have any reason to off a bunch of rich cunts?
This is how Succession should have ended.

If it is sealed from the outside, even if they've triggered one of the ballasts to surface, does that mean the air would still be limited?
Seems like (a) if they're stuck on something it has to be at the titanic, or (b) if they sank then it's probably too late already, or (c) they surfaced but without comms and haven't been found yet.
Having owned one, I'd put money on it being the logitech controller's cable connection.

Having owned one, I'd put money on it being the logitech controller's cable connection. Sinking is less than likely, implosive compression is a greater danger. Most likely of all is a small leak fried the electricals, killing control and comms, so they would hit the emergency buoyancy aids or whatever, which that thing has got to have (right?), and popped up on the surface someplace. Implosive compression is my horse in the race. It's the coolest.

It has one button, but I don't know what that button does. You'd assume it'd be the emergency buoyancy aids.
I just hope they had a spare controller.

Repeated banging sounds have been picked up on sonar. Things are about to get... dark.

There’s definitely a muff diving/ regular banging joke to be made here but I’m waaaaaay too mature to go there.

I'm genuinely surprised Elon Musk hasn't chimed in with a magic sub that he reckons will save them.
And then calling all the divers pedos.

guessing the "banging at regular intervals" is going to end up being a bilge pump's duty cycle on one of the rescue vessels
* while not technically a sonar operator I have been using the ping command my entire adult life so definitely enough expertise for twitter or a gb news booking

I used to have a submarine ping as my text message notification, my boss had it for years but then he changed his phone and couldn't work out how to change it so I adopted it just to piss him off.

I merely watch table tennis.

There are 7 ways and types of buoyancy aids one of which triggers if they are all unconscious, and many of the 7 require no power at all. They are either dead already or bobbing around on the surface trapped waiting to die.

Having read an article, I am now the forum's expert on carbon fibre.
There can be a delaminating effect when it's used on dive equipment. Water can force its way into the fibres at depth and then expand on surfacing. The repeated dive/surface cycle weakens the carbon fibre until it can no longer do its job.

Titanium glued to carbon fibre, sounds like an engineering nightmare in terms of how these materials behave after repeated thermal and pressure cycles.

Yeah watching that video and learning it was pretty much a carbon fibre tube with a cap glued on either end didn't fill me with confidence in the design.

Is that logitech controller chargeable or battery only? These are the questions that matter now..

I think I'd rather be in a Smarties tube submarine, it'd go soggy and fall to bits so quickly I could swim to the surface.
