There is almost no chance they are going to be found alive right? Pitch dark, terrible conditions. Needle in a haystack job. If we're going to speculate, it happened on the way down, so most likely the pressure vessel imploded.

Now that I am a deep sea submersible expert as of 1605 today. My understanding is the odds of leaking etc is extremely rare if not impossible. It also has 7 means to get back to the surface (ballasts etc)
So either got stuck somewhere (fucked)
Power loss/emergency (if so should have been able to get back to the surface) (not as fucked)
Did leak (very quickly fucked)

Other than the Titanic itself, I'm not sure what it could get stuck on. Which would at least make them easy to find.

They've been abducted by aliens and taken to the Delta Quadrant.

As hilarious as this all is for everyone, only 3 of them were fee paying - are we allowed to laugh at the other two as well?
Anyway - if by some miracle it is found at the bottom of the sea and they are still alive, I have zero clue how you would “rescue” the craft or its inhabitants - no one is going down there to untangle the rope or whatever.
I still cannot believe they wouldn’t have two vessels either one on the ship or both going down together, clearly if there is an issue you need a plan. Seems like they didn’t.

Am I being thick but wouldn’t a submarine have some kind of independent gps tracking device fitted? Surely something that expensive used by billionaires isn’t just a fancy tin can controlled by a guy on a laptop dependent only on Elon musk satellites working?

No, apparently even military subs only have limited contact under water and their tech is obviously top secret and certainly no GPS.

I've seen plenty of movies. You always see the subs on radar.

How do you expect global satellite radio wave pings to fare at penetrating a 4km water column?

I mean... he controlled it with a gaming controller. Whole thing is just crazy.

Water is good at blocking electromagnetic waves - putting the water tanks on the outside of any future Mars mission is being considered as a way of shielding astronauts - and a GPS signal is an electromagnetic wave.
GPS doesn’t work that far under water

Even military subs have to use towed antenna buoys to get a radio signal very far if they're submerged as even VLF doesn't penetrate much water.
Going deep underwater is more dangerous in a lot of ways than going into space.

I’m sure on the news earlier they said that the search area is so big that the sub could be on the surface and they could still miss it.
