While we still have access to the forum, put all the classic posts in one place.

That second one should probably form the banner picture for the site.

Been on the site for wayyyyy to long now, 4 years registered and 2 years as a lurker before that.
HUGE gamer across the whole spectrum of platforms and genres. Been gaming for well over 2 decades now, starting back with the good old days of Spectrum vs C64 - first computer I owned was the humble A3000, which was home to what remains the definitive version of Elite as well as the home of classic devs like 4th Dimension and landmark games like Zarch.
Of course, with experience comes (obviously) age, and cynicism and more discerning taste. I dislike current trends towards shoerhorned co-op, as well as the relentless march of corporatism over our beloved hobby that is leading to the stifling of innovation and mainstream games becoming an increasingly gloopy, homogenised mess designed to appeal to the lowest common denominator. For every bright, shining diamond like Dark Souls or Xenoblade Chronicles there is a another paint-by-numbers Call of Duty, Fifa, and Ratchet and Clank. For every sequel with a genuinely interesting new gameplay concept, another dozen are stamped out in the endless quest for appealing to the everyman.
In short: I am opinionated. I am also blunt - frequently blunt enough that people often mistake my observations and commentary on certain games as deliberately being contrary. I'm not. I frequently heavily criticise games that I nonetheless enjoyed. After playing a game, I assess, discuss and compare its various merits and demerits to other games with other people. Recognising flaws in a game or areas that could do with improvement is not nit-picking - it's an essential critical requirement, particularly when it comes to developers looking to create an improved sequel.
I also have a VERY dry sense of humour, which people can often mistake for rudeness, aggression, arrogance, etc etc. It isn't. My humour is just drier than a dinner party in the Sahara with a main course of plywood and a drink of brine.
Lastly, I am gay, disabled, and a liberal. I make absolutely no apologies for that, nor should I (but in case you're wandering, I'm not the sort to tenuously shoehorn the subjet/s into discussions unlike SOME members I could mention). I will actively stand up and speak out against discrimination and bigotry - particularly homophobia - in all of its forms - and persecution of the poor, the sick, the elderly, all genders, orientations, colours and creeds. This is the 21st century, NOT the 16th, and it's about damn time people started treating their fellow human beings with the equal respect, dignity and consideration that they are entitled to instead of revealing their own petty insecurities and attempting to subjugate or segregate others based merely on matters of genetics, geography or ideological differences.

Can't image this one, but it is a classic:
Poster: Charlie St Cloud
Thread: Top tip -- always say 'NO' to a gang bang.
Post: Okay, I haven't been on here for quite a while.
... and that's because I have been TRAUMATISED over an event, a moment and a situation I thought I'd never find myself in.
I had been seeing an exceptionally pretty lady since the beginning of February and we seem to be made for each other except our preference on Earl Grey (and you most certainly don't put milk in first).
We went to a particularly plush country mansion that was not far from the Norfolk Broads in which we were the tenth and final guests; I did not know anyone, but she knew them all. I was the youngest by a bit and they were all rather pleasant (and good looking) folks.
After a lovely dinner and a couple of drinks we all went to the living room and crowded around the fireplace whereby I sat on the so-called Grandad chair. It was comfortable and I was enjoying the company.
Um, so ... the next hour or so was the entire opposite of the word 'comfortable'.
The guy who was furthest away from me started kissing his partner. Nothing unusual about that, right? The guy who was furthest way from me started caressing her in open view. Nothing unusual about that, right? The guy who was furthest way from me started to put his hands down her skirt and rubbing pretty intensely. In front of us.
NOTHING UNUSUAL ABOUT THAT, RIGHT?
Then it just kind of happened, albeit very gradually, like everyone was taking their turns to watch and pursue the sexual motions. I was as stiff as a wooden plank, as in not believing what was going on right in front of me and was unable to move or utter a word other than the occasional glance at the lady I was with.
And there goes the question:
'Would you like to join us?'
She was asking ME this? Are you quite mad? What on Earth has gone to your head? Where do these people come from? Why is this happening like it is a formal and of a normality sequence of events?
In other words, I didn't say 'NO'.
It was surreal. I didn't like it, yet there was something very invasive about doing the deed with other peoples partners to the point that it felt ... fine. I most certainly didn't enjoy looking at the lady I was with going inside the other men and I most certainly did NOT LIKE THE MEN TOUCHING MY WILLY!
The car journey home was as awkward as one could imagine. I wanted to say, 'does this happen a lot?' and 'why did you put me in that position with nary a word let alone a hint of sorts?'.
We don't see each other anymore.
The only words of comfort I can give you fine folks is that if you're in the situation I was in, no matter how attractive the people are, please, for the love of all things good, say 'no'.

User: Bill Gates is Evil
Thread: just created an "achievements" binder
Post: Angry Defensive Rant:
I've done stuff like this all my life... I do it with my financials (I have about 5 billion gazillion charts and statistics), sports (I have my stats for most of my sports seasons because I would track EVERYTHING), I used to write down the number of miles I would drive (and then proceed to set goals to lower that number... find more efficient routes, etc...)
It's my personality type. I'm anal I admit, but I'm also a hugely goal oriented person. Writing things down and keeping in mind numerical values helps me stay clear headed.
But please don't insult me by trying to imply that I must be some strange creature because I like to track the achievements I get on a videogame console.
I'm one of the most extroverted people there is, I spend my entire day at work dealing with peoples personal lives, trying to help them overcome their anxieties, their insecurities, their motivation problems, and the fact that many are so unhappy. I know people EXTREMELY well. I can spot emotional problems from a mile away.
hell, odds are that a great many of you who have stated directly or implied indirectly that I'm "sad" or in some way pathetic have yourself extreme emotional problems, a tremendously low self-confidence, are dangerously introverted, and are very likely chronic masturbators.
The difference is that I don't really mind talking about my little "quirks", while a great majority of the population spends their entire lives trying hard to appear normal while underneath it all they're basically complete freaks.
I'm telling you, I see it all the time. It's almost scary. This is not said because I'm being defensive, I'm saying it because I can almost promise it's true: this forum is filled with people who have serious issues-- the thing is most of them spend a great amount of their energy covering up that fact on this forum. Probably a lot of you are interested in the idea of an "achievements" binder but are too afraid to admit it because of social anxiety-- so instead of saying "hey I'm not going to do that but that's a good idea" you'll say "what a weirdo!" and pretend to be all normal.
So a little advice: next time somebody (whether it's me or not) seems enthusiastic and enjoying themselves in something that may seem to you as totally irrelevant and as a waste of time-- try doing yourself a favor. Ask yourself whether you're really a perfectly normal person and whether or not you think you are actually qualified to start implying somebody else has "issues".
because odds are 90% of this forum is so insanely fucked up in the head, that me and my little achievement binder are quite normal, thank you very much.
btw, I know it's on my profile but I prefer something more tangible.
