Probably Manchester or, at worst, Liverpool

WiFi reliablity will depand a lot on where you are sourcing it from, i.e. hotel, AirBnB etc. 4G tends to be good enough if it is an afordable option where you end up - so bare that in mind as an alternative option too.

I've the opportunity to do a "working holiday" where I take my laptop and do a few "half days" but in the sunshine. Where would people recommend is reliable for wifi and not far out of our timezone? (+2 hours at most) More than 2 hours, but south east Asia is pretty doable. Work midday till 8pm giving you a nice morning every day for a swim etc. And you can fly to Thailand for under £200 these days. Otherwise I always recommend Lisbon.

Hotel WiFi is pretty much universally shit in my experience. Wouldn't fancy risking working on it. Airbnb with your own dedicated connection might be a better shout.

Probably Manchester or, at worst, Liverpool When would this be? There are so many nice places not far away, Portugal, South of Spain, Italy, France, if in summer, Switzerland, Austria. Depends on budget, where you've been etc. but as others have said you can get an AIrBnB with decent wi-fi anywhere.

Good to see the Italian “Guarda di Finanza” border police are still utter racist shitbags, they came on the train and the only people asked for ID were the Indian family. Was the same last time I got this train , they ignored me and my 2 mates swigging beer (that I had just spilled ) but made the African girl beside us show all ID, going through her luggage and everything. Cunts.

Italy was awesome, Vicenza is a pleasant wee city with some lovely architecture, Padua is really, really beautiful and has a lovely relaxing vibe, Prato della Valle must be the most impressive square I've ever seen, stunning. Venice was as always, mind-blowing, such a pleasure to wander around once as long as you avoid the tourist hordes at certain places. Food was wonderful throughout, Venice is full of crap tourist restaurants but if you do your homework you can find amazing grub. Europe isn't fucking cheap nowadays though, we've been spoiled by how great value Japan is, in the last 6 years. Now to lose some weight and save cash for the next trip....

A bit chavvy and Northern, but Ryan Air are doing special clearance offers on flights in May, booked today until midnight tonight, prices from £4.99 (to Budapest, Maastricht etc).

I'd love to visit if I could get over flying Ryan Air. It is a horrible experience, sadly some routes offer no other choice.

That does bring me to my holiday I'm planning. Looking at a villa in the south of France with a pool for our 3yr old and we can drive the dogs over. One of our dogs is a lockdown rescue so he's only ever known us being with him and not stayed anywherr else so a bit reluctant to leave him.
It's so much cheaper to go there than anywhere we looked at in the UK.

In NYC at the moment for my brother's wedding. 3rd time I've been. Fuck me it is expensive even compared to what I remember previously. Ugh.
Having to farm around my fairly elderly parents, one of whom insists on taking taxis everywhere. So that's like 50 quid a pop just to go from Williamsburg to Manhatten. Sigh.

I can imagine, I've only been once 17 years ago and it was eye-watering even then!

Get a Lyft, it’s cheaper and they’ll actually take you to Williamsburg unlike most cabs. Took 5 attempts to get taken to Peter Luger last year

We're off to Alicante on Thursday with 2 nights near Valencia, spend some time with the in-laws and eat too much. Can't wait!

Just back from a week in Portugal. Staying at in-laws timeshare, so a bit weird, but at least all very easy, with pool, etc. But... Venturing outside means actual nice local food Was our first trip as a family abroad since lockdown, so was great! British Airways was awful though. Spent probably 5 hours on phone to sort a ticket issue and then long delays at check-in to actually resolve.

These holidays all sounds shit. I’m on holiday in Great Yarmouth, enjoying the wind, rain and tourists.
Before the second kid it was places like Tokyo, Milan and Santorini. Now it’s places where after 3 days off eating like the others do then bowel movements are a rare treat.
If when I flew to NY for work 3 years ago, if I’d known that was my last trip overseas for so long, then I’d have stayed more days than the work required minimum.

Does anyone know what Rwanda is like? I've heard that there is a plane with loads of spare seats on it so figured it could be a nice cheap break.
