Is any of this even properly confirmed because you know there's a whole strike going on. No. But it’s only actors and writers that are on strike. Agents, publicists and the like are very much not.

There’s absolutely no reason to bring back any of them. The highest any of the actors in the DCU ever really achieved was ‘not terrible’ but there’s not a single one that became iconic as a character.

To the point that Cavill will be remembered for playing Gerald rather than arguably the most iconic comic character in the world.

He was more iconic in MI simply by having a moustache.

Cavill will probably be glad to be revving up the chainsword with a lot more control than he's ever had before.

WW was the best of the bunch and she was great as the character. But they never really did anything with the franchise. Even if you just took her two solo films, the second one was - charitably - a damp squib so it's more wasted potential really. That sums up the DCEU for me. Wasted potential.

Hot take: I think WW84 is the worst DCEU movie by some distance, even worse than suicide squad.

I don't think that's a hot take. That's an extremely reasonable take.

One that I also agree with. I didn’t mind the suicide squad actually. It’s watchable. Ww84 was horrendous.

I have this weird feeling of deja vu...

Me too (on both the taking it over those films you mention and the deja vu). But whatever really. Not sure I can be bothered to bat for it. I had an enjoyable but forgettable couple of hours watching it. I don't think it is as bad as everyone says, but not good enough to fight over.

Not recasting would cause confusion about the universe reboot as well as feeling a bit lazy, as if those actors are the only possible choice for any of the roles.
I’m assuming the rebooted universe will probably fall apart after the first film doesn’t make a ridiculous amount even if it’s good anyway. I’m not sure they can make them good enough for enough people to care that much any more.

To be honest I didn’t think the new suicide squad was much improved on the first one.

Night and day compared to the first piece of shit, suicide squad.
And it gave us the glorious Peacemaker.

To be honest I didn’t think the new suicide squad was much improved on the first one. I didn’t either. The first one was labeled a poor man’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and this one literally was that. But Peacemaker was good.

Although by that I mean both Suicide Squad movies were bad, not that they were both good. Just didn’t think Gunn’s was much better. Agreed with WW84 was terrible though.

Speaking of Wonder Woman and iconic star power, did anyone actually realise Netflix dropped a $130m Gal Gadot movie today?

Only because my wife said "That woman you fancy is in a new Netflix film I saw" while sneering at me to see how I'd react.

I’m not sure they can make them good enough for enough people to care that much any more. I think - and this might be me being old and sentimental - that a really good Superman movie, done right, could have a Top Gun: Maverick effect, where people go to recapture some kind of nebulous feeling of what they think they remember Superman being, whilst also enjoying a rollicking movie that works best when seen on a big screen. But in general I think all superhero movies (all Hollywood movies?) need to recalibrate their expectations and start thinking that a huge hit is $700m and not $1bn, and therefore you should only spend $150m on a massive tentpole movie and not $250m. And pay your writers.

Adverts for that Gal Gadot thing were all over the screens at Tottenham Court Rd, didn’t realise it was a film and not a series though. I’m not sure how much engagement a single film drives, it seems a lot for them to spend.

I think it's part of a deal she has with netflix. I think one of them was the mediocre action film she starred in with The Rock and Ryan Reynolds. Can't remember the title but it was one of those films that seems cheap because they used up all the budget on the actors so there's barely any supporting cast. I specifically remember that when guns were fired they were always fired at everything else but the target. Once you noticed it it became hard to unsee it.
