I must say it is incredible how WB's handling of DC's movie output has truly been a real shitshow, moreso with the previous owners. It'll be interesting to see if the new owners continue this trend of shitting the bed.

Its hard to believe that they have more faith in a movie that stars an actual child molester than they do Batgirl. That movie must have been sub-Catwoman bad.

Does seem a bit mental. Of all the film's you'd expect them to drop, it'd be the flash.
Although I guess morbid curiousity will probably make me watch the flash if it ever actually comes out. No such thing as bad press and all that.

If a film is cancelled it means the studio can take it as a tax write down too.

I hope we get a leak sometime soon.
The 2 guys in charge also worked on Ms Marvel, which turned out pretty good. Though I don't know how much control they had on that.

I wonder if following the whole Snyder Cut thing they’re banking on the internet creating demand for Batgirl so that they can then release it and be heroes.

I wonder if following the whole Snyder Cut thing they’re banking on the internet creating demand for Batgirl so that they can then release it and be heroes. Didn’t work out too well for Morbius, but yeah, a lot of people suspect this may be at least a secondary case, especially with the double whammy of Keaton’s return as Batman and Reddit darling Brendan Fraser in the picture.

Something tells me that those clammering for the Snyder cut won't be quite so energised for Batgirl staring the latina Leslie Grace. Can't quite put my finger onto why.

Couldn’t they bung in some cut scenes to up the run time and flog it to a streaming service as a limited series event

I don't understand how it can be so bad, considering nearly all of the WB/DC output so far as a yardstick, that it's unreleasable. There's obviously something else going on with the Discovery merger.
Certainly, you'd think they'd dump it on streaming, but HBO Max seems like it's going rapidly into the bin too, so who knows.

It’s mostly just Discovery cleaning house. They’ve killed a whole bunch of WB shows already on TNT and TBS so it’s not hugely surprisingly they’d also take an axe to DCEU. Bumping it out onto streaming also isn’t a one and done, most SAG actors have pay per play for digital releases nowadays, there’s the tax write-off situation, distribution rights, legal etc etc.

The incredibly nuanced reason I've seen online for the dumping of it is racism. But tbf that's been wholly from American sites with their weird world view.

There's no suggestion Batgirl is bad. It's had one screen test, unfinished, and it scored the same as other films that have gone on to done well. It might be mediocre, it might be great, but right now no one knows; but there's been no suggestion it's any worse than all the other mid-tier DC films Warners have put out in the last couple of years.
I think the thing is, the new regime doesn't see the point in big streaming-exclusive events, so a $90m+ is too expensive to dump on HBO Max or wherever (especially as HBO Max is effectively ceasing to exist). But they don't think there's enough superhero spectacle to sustain a cinematic release, so it won't make its money back - especially after adding $50m or more to market it.
Now, I don't agree with any of this. I think it's dodgy business and a terrible way to treat artists. But that all seems to be the reasoning, not that Batgirl wasn't good.

Not wanting to be morbid but I think it's only a matter of time until people will be referring to Miller in the past tense.

Rumours are that they are moving the dates of Shazam 2 and Aquaman 2 back. I can understand Shazam 2 as I think it was due out around the same time as Avatar 2. If batgirl was any good and Zaslav thought it would have made them money they would have released it. This is also going on variety.com/2022/film/news/alan-horn-warner-bros-discovery-adviser-1235328296/He had a massive hand in bringing about the MCU, so it's an interesting move.

I also see they're going to cancel the Supergirl movie. I don't think Dwayne Johnson is going to get that big cinematic universe he wants with the way things are being run now. Discovery are a garbage company who have been making garbage for a while.
