That's generally the problem with TV these days, and Netflix shows in particular.
They don't have proper episodic arcs any more, and every episode has to end with queuing up further episodes so you never feel fully satisfied when you finish one.
Even though I'd prefer to watch fiction shows nowadays I end up watching more competition shows or even crap reality stuff purely because they're still structured with proper endings where something is finished or achieved at the end.

They can get fucked, one of the contributions to me cancelling Amazon Prime were the random ads that appeared at the start of episodes.

They can get fucked, one of the contributions to me cancelling Amazon Prime were the random ads that appeared at the start of episodes. It wouldn't be so bad but it is the same fucking 2 ads repeated. You have a series in the background all day and the same fucking advert plays every fucking time. After the 30th time the advert plays surely Prime should get the hint you have either watched it already or don't care.

My son watches it a lot but if I had to pick one to get rid of it would be Netflix. Comfortably the worst line up of any of the big ones. I wouldn't be surprised to see them in trouble in a few years.

Isn’t their whole model to get money from hedge funds based on showing off how many new subs/hours watched they have?
Without new subs and with truth about their viewing figures for original content being based on who watch the opening 5 seconds of one episode counting as a whole series watch and the rest being Friends rewatches they were bound to hit a wall.
Especially with services like D+ starting to offer actually good original content now.
Price hikes and introducing ads just feel like they’ll push people away more than they’ll compensate for users already lost.
The balkanisation of streaming means we were probably due a crash or rebalancing soon anyway. The advantage of it being cheaper than Sky or Virgin is totally lost when you need five or six subscriptions to keep up with everything.

I know its because of Cbeebies but we genuinely have iPlayer on more than all the others put together when I’m not bingeing something like X-Files.

There's also been reports of the culture at Netflix being absolutely toxic. As a brand, it's doing Sunak levels of self-fuckery. They're really going to hit a brick wall soon.
I remember the announcement that they wanted 50% of content to be their own. They may achieve that but it doesn't mean it'll be any good.
Though, the latest series of Russian Doll was surprisingly good.

They’re streaking towards 50% of their content being their own by virtue of Disney, Paramount etc starting their own services and removing their movies from Netflix.

Just cancelled by sub after having been in from the start. Left a reason for leaving as "nearly 300% price rise and most of the early content has been replaced by inferior Netflix original programming".
Will resub next month

If Netflix start adverts they can get to fuck. Subs and adverts to watch fucking Dirty Grandpa or some Netflix shovelware. Fuck off.

Can't cancel Netflix as I want to watch this Ozark thing. Given that I might watch 2-3 episodes a week that'll be a good 10-15 weeks at least.
I just can't binge stuff anymore, I watch one episode and that's me done for the day. Unless it's truly exceptional.
From what I understand Netflix don't plan to add adverts to anything but the lowest tier, and even then it might be a new lowest tier.

If I was Netflix, I would have just pretended to have a security issue and forced a global password reset in the first instance.

I've been meaning to cancel for a while as honestly I just don't watch it. I go back and forth between HBO Max and Disney+ these days and combined it's still cheaper than what I pay for Netflix with stuff I actually want to watch.

I'd love to subscribe to HBO Max, but alas it's not available in the UK, nor is there an app for my LG TV.

I don't think HBO is coming to the UK, due to the existing Sky rights deal?

I don't think HBO is coming to the UK, due to the existing Sky rights deal? Not before 2025 as that’s when the deal expires, same here in Switzerland and a few other countries. Shame as the Sky service here which shows HBO Max stuff is terrible.

The existing Sky deal expires in 2025 or thereabouts. Part of the rationale for the Discovery/WB deal was it could create a large enough company with enough IP to provide an international streaming platform that would make such deals unnecessary once the current sky one expires.

Though literally weeks later the Netflix news broke and made everybody wonder if multiple platforms with exclusive content was the best way to go and maybe everybody should just do a Sony and sell their content to everybody else instead.

Chestnut Man 6/10 Scandi Noir, was ok, binged within a week. Got a little silly at the end, for the sake of drama, but overall a decent tale.

If the prices weren’t daft I’d probably be fine to go back to renting individual titles and ignoring most of the generally just ok original streaming content. The main benefit of streaming platforms was the cost effectiveness of them and they’ve managed to work very hard at eliminating that advantage in a lot of ways recently.
But then I don’t have the free time to put the hours in these services really want out of their customers.

I don't mind it either, although if they stopped me being able to let my dad access it as well it would annoy me.

Just finished watching all episodes of the Good Place. Such a delight; a well-written, well-acted, surprising and a bit touching (especially near the end) little show that actually had something to say... I had seen it get recommended a couple of times and did not know why, well, now I do know... Highly recommended
PS I appreciate the discussion about prices, ads, value, etc. however I don't stress about it... If netflix gets too greedy and fall, some other service will take its place and another after that, that's the inevitable circle of how things go...
