I don’t like the US-British setting which they’ve set the Coben adaptations in. Plus they’re all so convoluted.

I watched The Staircase over the weekend and the start of this week. "Another Netflix true crime series?" you say? And yes, but this one had me hooked, from the original episodes in the early 2000s to the follow-ups from just a few years ago.
I thought the lawyer - David Rudolf - was the most interesting character.

New Disenchanted at the start of next month
I’ve watched all three season so far and will watch the fourth but I’m still not sure its anything better than fine.

Yeah, I want it to be fantasy Futurama, but it's never quite reached those heights. Maybe that's an unfair bar, but you expect a lot from a new Groening show.
Will also watch the new season even if I don't think it's "great."

The coben stuff has so much potential, but they don't half drag stuff out, have people do stupid things. I was screaming at my TV whodunnit on stay safe for the last couple episodes. Like make a phone call inside a burning building, let yourself into a stranger's house or wander off into the woods because you heard a noise? Yeah wtf! I could poke holes in them for ages but it's surprisingly easy viewing really. Really wanted DI Katz to expel some of his rage against a particular person but that never happened.

I contacted Netflix yesterday to have a whinge at them increasing prices again while their image quality is noticeably inferior to Apple and Disney which charge 1/4 and 1/3 of the price respectively. No fucks will be given.

Anyone watched Philip K. Dick's Electric Dreams on Prime yet? Impressed that he's made a miniseries of his short stories, considering when he died. Is it all from his short stories, or is it more like Roald Dahl's Tales of the Unexpected?

If you're that bothered about Netflix prices you could cancel and then re-sub from somewhere with a cheaper montly cost using a VPN. Their share price took a big hit last week so you'd think they'd be doing all they could to keep the subs they have when new ones appear to be dring up.

Immaterial - it's a black mirror style anthology. There were a couple of fairly good episodes but the rest all fell somewhere between mediocre and OK.

I thought it was chasing Black Mirrors tale rather than being very PKD when Channel 4(?) had it originally

I could poke holes in them for ages but it's surprisingly easy viewing really. Really wanted DI Katz to expel some of his rage against a particular person but that never happened. in episode one it took us quite a while to comprehend that yes, we were genuinely being asked to just accept that someone could successfully manage to mysteriously disappear for 20 years and start a new separate life... on the other side of an average sized seaside town. I've pretty much decided I'm not going to bother with the adaptations from now on. The characters decisions are just ridiculous, and despite it being very watchable for the first half, I was very much waiting for it to end in the last couple of episodes. Also Coben adheres closely to the standard whodunnit formula so by applying that you can take a decent educated guess whodunnit very early on. At least that was the case with both of the ones so far.

Yeah, it does take a very formulaic approach once you're halfway in.
On the topic of Whodunnits, just finished watching clickbait. Was quite an interesting take but they sure do rely on general people knowing fuck all about tech or internet related things and have a very 'handwavey' attitude to some of it.
Can't you just hack Google for their metadata ... /groan

Have we talked about S4 of The Sinner yet? S1 was excellent, S2 was good, S3 slipped a bit in my mind, but I smashed through 5 episodes of S4 last night as I was hooked. I think I know the secret but I will find out tonight as I finish it off. Good show!

All of Us Are Dead.
A Korean Zombie outbreak series set mostly in a highschool. I'm already three episodes in, it's great so far.

Bill Pullman is really good, assuming his mannerisms are all great acting and he's not had a stroke.

So three eps into Archive81. When does it get good? I’m bored out of my mind.

Yeah the first 3 episodes are as good as it gets. Once it starts to explain itself it loses a bit. It was still great though.

I had to sit through the last season of that After Life over the last week or so. It is dreadful on pretty much every level I can think of.
I keep expecting Ricky Gervais to come out and explain that his transformation into a real life, living, breathing, unironic version of David Brent since The Office and Extras is some sort of Andy Kauffman-esque long con he's pulling on the world. Reality is that he lost it as soon as Steve Merchant stopped doing the heavy lifting for him.

I really, really hate that trailer. Has the whiff of an overproduced phone network ad. Also, Ryan Gosling looks oddly blurred whilst hanging onto the side of that train because he's so obviously on a blue screen.

Derek was fucking abysmal with him mugging his way throughout it alongside all this supposed serious and emotional stuff going on. I tried After Life but it too had this awful mix of mawkish sentimentality and mugging off to the camera. I think I turned it off after he essentially helped a homeless man kill himself in s1. Fucking pish.

Every character was essentially either a mouthpiece or a prop to project his own, real world, super edgy world views. He's better than everyone at everything and everyone loves and looks up to him despite being a complete an utter arsehole. The development between S1-3 was pathetically non-existent and everyone basically gets a happy ever after in the last 2 minutes of the series with the first member of the opposite sex they bump into.
There's a contingent of This Morning type viewers who have it down as some sort of sentimental piece of genius. It's offensively shit. Thank fuck it was only a few episodes long.

I completely agree with your take on Afterlife. It's terrible. But the problem with the "he's been shite since he stopped working with Stephen Merchant" thing is Life's Too Short. It definitely had laughs in it, but I thought it was staggeringly bad.

I always forget they did that. Probably because, as you say, it was awful. Merchant has definitely put out and been in the better stuff since though, so naturally looks like he was the brains of the operation in retrospect. Fuck, even that series Karl Pilkington did on Sky One with the voice in his head was better than anything Gervais has done in years.
