What a result! First win away in Italy since 1999.

Bristol beat Newcastle 85-14 yesterday.
Newcastle's record for the season: played 15, lost 15, with a points difference of -306.
They have five points overall, with Gloucester (the club that's right above them in the table) on 27.
Their last three games are against Sale, Bath, and Gloucester - hard to see them winning any of these.
There's no relegation this year, so they'll just have to go again for the 2024-25 season.
What a shitty situation.

Fuck's sake I think they forgot that kicking a draw would have guaranteed third place there. Fucking doing a Scotland. Fuck.

Not to belabour a point I've already made on umpteen prior occasions, but Karl Dickson's incompetence is nothing short of staggering. Let me set the scene: Quins vs. Saints, being played at Twickenham, close to the end of the Premiership season. It's not a full house - the top tier of the stadium is shut - but otherwise, it's a high turnout for what's supposed to be a showcase of top-flight English rugby. The powers that be, for reasons known only to them, appoint Dickson to referee the game. Not only is he the worst referee in the league by a handful of light-years, he's also a former Quins player. During the first half, Danny Care is sent to the sin bin for a high tackle on Courtney Lawes - a fair cop, no arguments to be had. In the second half, Care flops over the top of a ruck (playing Alex Mitchell, the Saints 9, in the process), and Dickson's hand immediately goes to his pocket...
... Before being retracted with an equal amount of haste. He went to card the offending player, realised it was his old teammate Care (who'd have to be sent off for receiving two yellows in the same game), and totally fucking bottled it.
Cue several replays and discussions with the TMO, in which Dickson desperately tries to justify keeping Care on the field, and succeeds in so doing.
Quins hastily bring on Will Porter for Care (who leaves the field smirking), and Quins avoid being down to 14 for the rest of the game... Which they go on to win, with Porter scoring two tries to help them over the finish line.
The posters on the Saints board are furious, and I don't blame them.

A good result for Gloucester against Benetton earlier on - hopefully it'll help to save Skivington's job, as I've always liked him. Meanwhile, things are going about as poorly as you'd expect for Saints against Ireland Leinster, with Manbun having scored two tries already.
Lastly, I sort of dread to think about how Quins will fare against Toulouse tomorrow! It could get ugly.

After a poor first half, Quins really took the game to Toulouse, and could have won it in the end; however, poor discipline (especially from Walker and Marler) saw the chance slip away.
Kudos to both Quins and Northampton for going down swinging, though - Toulouse and Leinster are incredible teams, to be sure, but the English sides both put in good showings.
They can't compete in terms of sheer star power, though, and it showed. That's the unavoidable impact of the salary cap (unavoidable unless you're Saracens, in which case you just cheat and ignore the bloody thing).

Result aside, Finn Baxter and Chandler Cunningham-South were immense. Murley too.

Totally agree - in hindsight, it looks like an attempt at preemptive damage limitation.

Northampton vs. Gloucester has been brutal to watch - 40-0 to Saints at half-time.

The Premiership season has now concluded.
Northampton, Bath, Sale, and Saracens will contest the play-offs in two weeks' time; of the other six clubs, three (Bristol, Harlequins, and Exeter) can count themselves a bit unlucky, while three (Leicester, Gloucester, and Newcastle) can try to put a dismal season out of their minds ASAP.
Re the play-offs, I don't mind who wins as long as it isn't Saracens! A Bath vs. Saints final would be nice.

Ehhh Quins have been their own worst enemy at times, can't complain about being in with a shout on the last day. Need a defence coach prrrronto and someone to fill Andre's size 20s if we're going to compete next season.
Anyway, anyone but fucking Saracens for the trophy please.

Christian Day was very good on comms for the Tigers vs. Chiefs game.
I'd be glad to see him turn up more often - better than some of the regulars (Dallaglio, Flatman), and certainly a superior option to Andy Goode when it comes to occasional colour commentators (although that's not saying much).

The quality has been low but I've still found the match enjoyable. Feels like most the players are on the verge of an anxiety attack.

That was a weird-ass game - 80 minutes of cagey, turgid rugby, followed by 20(+) minutes of high drama.
More exciting for a neutral than last night's Challenge Cup final, I'd say.
