Decent appointment I think. Quite brave by the FA for a change too

Best candidate available for sure. But equally have reservations.

He’s undoubtably a successful coach and has taken elite players to titles and trophies but he’s also been a chronic bridge burner everywhere he’s managed.
If they wanted a change in culture post-Southgate they’ve sure got it whatever happens.

Not sure what to make of it to be honest. Decent manager and available so I suppose ticked the boxes for the FA.
Not massively opposed to a foreign manager, but it’s shame there were not really any viable English managers. Maybe next time.

I think he is probably better suited to international managing than club level. No board to fall out with over transfers and gets to focus on the coaching side of things which is what he is best at.
How he gets on with the press is potentially the biggest issue.

I suppose it’s generally less time to fall out with people but tournament’s are quite intense so could all go to shit there. Be interesting to see what happens regardless.

How long do we give it before the first Dad’s Army/Allo Allo/Fawlty Towers headline?

The Times has an exclusive that Thomas Tuchel is the new England boss. I guess you can thank us, the Greeks, for forcing FA's hand in appointing Tuchel as your new boss; had we lost last week as expected, you'd feel compelled to keep Carsley

The sun will probably go with "We did na-zi this coming" tomorrow so I doubt you will have to wait long.

There'll be some "Gott im Himmel!" stuff from the Sun I expect, their German is completely from watching WWII movies.
I don't really have much of an opinion of the choice, keeping with Carsley didn't seem like it had any legs after the Greece game and there was certainly no sign of anything really changing after Southgate's departure so a neuer Besen* was needed.
*thanks Google Translate, I didn't know that from my WWII movie watching.

This seems sensible and brave from the FA. Not their job to pander to the xenophobes and he's clearly overqualified if anything.
Feels like a one tournament appointment to me but I'm quite excited to see how he gets on.

Also the £5m a year is what they were paying Southgate. Pep earns £20m so that has to have been a factor in pulling the trigger now.

The mail is written for people who think Germans and Nazis are the same thing and older folk who were born after the war but act like they lived through the blitz, so this tracks.
I still think they should be forever forced to have "The Paper That Supported Hitler" under their masthead. If they didn't want to be associated with it they could have changed their name.

How many games does he get before he's universally declared to be awful and it's all his fault that England aren't winning every tournament?
2 games is traditional, right?
