Rather hoping Saka just wanted to get out of this shite rather than actually hurt.

Just shoot England, as a Forest fan I can tell you that Vlachodimos doesn't do saves.

Well that's saved Southgate's Carsley's blushes.
edit : maybe not, what the fuck is this defending? Like a bunch of schoolboys who have never played football.

Ireland win 2-1 away to Finland. Terrible first half led to a higher tempo second half where we looked decent (or made Finland look shite at least). First time we've won against higher ranked opposition in fuck knows how long. First time we've come from behind to win in 12 years. An actual win. Which we nearly lost a few times too. But a win. Hopefully it sparks some confidence.

It should have been 3-1 the first disallowed goal was officially chalked off for ball out of play which is absolute bs, doesn't even look close and there's no way they could tell on var that it went out

Carsley: "We tried that new system yesterday for 20 minutes". 20 minutes?!

On the other hand, they could easily have had 2+ goals in the second half if we didn't have a bit of luck on our side at last. For now, we can't achieve anything without tempo and a bit of pressing, which is exactly the same as it ever was despite Kenny's (noble, but failed) efforts. Szmodics is going to be such a player for us in that kind of system if we implement it properly. Kudos to Brady after having a long run without injury and with plenty of games under the belt. He was solid even without the free kick and goal, hopefully he can keep that going. It feels like a team that would be very good if you could just parachute Roy Keane into the CM but I'm not sure how that unicorn type thing happens in the aggregate, maybe Lawal, Moran, and Hodge can find a higher level. Can't see more than a draw against Greece, maybe not even a draw, but hopefully they try to keep a high tempo for at least some of the game.

I'm at least grateful that Carsley experimented in the Nations League rather than in qualifiers. I don't think there's anything wrong with that. In theory a Bellingham false nine with Saha and Gordon bombing on should work wonders (works in FIFA) but it obviously wasn't clicking and everyone looked lost.
I do think that he should have ripped it up at half time and gone back to basics and added a proper focal point for 45 mins. THAT was the mistake.

No wonder it never worked, Saha is 46! 😉

Not being eligible to play for England is a hindrance too.

I think if you're going to experiment, maybe spend a little more than TWENTY MINUTES practising it the day before? Genuinely can't believe he said that out loud.

Looks like I wasn't the only person who decided to do something else during the first half! A 3 mile walk or watch England play? Tough choice.

Nice goal but generally a grim watch. And lucky to still be ahead.

No problem with a manager where ever they're from but I wouldn't get behind picking him for the job. Not that it's even a real possibility anyway.

Sure, Pep would be up for it. Just like Klopp would’ve been. Why not try Zidane or Ancelotti next, they’ve won trophies.

Don't really know what to make of that tbh. Probably the best candidate available mind.
