Didn't give D:OS much of a chance and just uninstalled it after about three hours. Similar case with The Technomancer, which is by Spiders (Bound by Flame, Greedfall). Played it for about six hours and even though I don't mind it and I could say some positive things about it... most of the dialogue and quests have been by the numbers and frankly boring so far. Especially since the various areas of the city I'm in are relatively big and maze-like, so getting anywhere is relatively slow. Quest markers did lead to some confusion at first since everything gets turned on by default. The combat is fine. Difficult but fine. And - similar to Bound by Flame - the character progression still has just enough choice and - though relatively incremental - is still satisfying. Not least because of the difficulty. But I just didn't have enough of a reason to continue.
For people that don't know what Spiders are doing: They are basically making Bioware-esque games with difficult 3rd person combat. That's fine, but aside from the combat the only other thing that kind of manages to capture my attention a bit, is the somewhat interesting setting.
I guess I'm suffering from backlog pressure a bit. At some other time years ago I might have continued, but nowadays unless I actually clearly enjoy something on some level I let myself bounce off of things much more readily now.
That's a pity, I think the Technomancer was the last RPG I actually enjoyed (not counting stuff like Solasta, which I see more as tactics). I'm very hesitant to pull the trigger on Greedfall though, I just don't think the genre does much for me anymore (and I'm easily pleased, setting and story go a long way with me).

For some reason I had an easier time with Bound by Flame, perhaps because it was more linear. Technomancer's Ophir seemed like a fairly well realized place, but in practice it only bogged down the pacing. Odd that of all of these games I would be able to play through BbF but not through the Mars games with their more interesting setting.

Funnily enough, I’ve been back on this in the past week or so. Took an extended break after hitting a brick wall with Nemesis, the Biome 3 boss. Now I’m not saying it was easy or that everything just fell into place, but I finally had a lucky enough run to beat him. Honestly, the feeling of relief and elation is right up there with any Souls game. I loved the story sequence and am enjoying Biome 4. I’m very relieved that also marks a permanent checkpoint though. It’s a brilliant, brilliant game.

I didn't give Bound by Flame a chance; I think, right at the end of the PS3 era I was scratching around for any decent game on the console which I hadn't played to that point and it was recommended by someone, but I didn't get past the first camp.

Bioshock 1 and Bioshock Infinite (free on EGS). Don't know, doesn't do anything for me. Didn't try 2, I guess that's moot if I didn't like the other two.

The setting and atmosphere were quite special. The combat in all of them is shite though. Backpedal, backpedal, shoot. Could forgive the first one for this but I felt it got even worse in Infinite which had no excuse.

The combat was fine. A bit clunky perhaps and I wouldn't advise playing on Hard because it only makes everything more of a hassle and less fun.
On my first playthrough though I quite enjoyed it. It just is a few hours too long.
2 is more of the same with better combat and hacking. Lovely revisiting Rapture for anyone who enjoyed the first one. Story and characters are a bit weaker. Especially the main villain and her central ideology are much worse.

Did I hear that there were some serious issues with the PC port of the first Bioshock, or was that overdone? I already have this collection on console, and haven't played it (I did play the originals); so not sure if it's worth picking up on PC. Dunno if the EGS games are even worth hoarding for when I'm destitute and can't afford games, as I don't know if it'll even be a viable storefront after Fortnite declines.

Well, can't complain about free anyway. Might as well hoard them. Anyway, if Epic ever does go under (the Fortnite well must dry eventually and the store doesn't seem to be making them a lot of money), I'm hoping that they will make some deal to let people migrate their libraries to Steam.

Elden Ring after 70 hours. Too intense and needs to be played in the right ‘life moment’ for me. E.G, was happy with the missus and loving ER, then some shit hit the fan and I couldn’t bring myself to continue ER at that time. It’s too much.
Haven’t gone back to it since but will. Also massively focussed on work right now. ER feels like work / a job to me, stressful.
Since then been enjoying silly stuff like Fifa, Mini Motorways, Switch games.
Even tried my beloved Cyberpunk for a second play through on PS5. Ditched it after 6 hours. Admittedly seeing its story, world and gameplay flaws this time around 😬

Brought to you by backlog anxiety.
But seriously, I have about 40 games on the Epic launcher and have never bought anything over there. Nor will I ever. Not sure how true that is for the general population though.

The Remastered versions had some problem with constant crashes on Windows. No clue if they ever did resolve that.
The old retail version for PC has some weird problems nowadays. At least in my case I could decide betweeen either massive lag with Vsync on or massive flickering in some instances when off. The installation was also a bit of a hassle since some required update now refers to the wrong webpage.

Wolfenstein New Order (free on EGS)
Had no idea what to expect, then realised omg I'm back in the age of CoD clones. Hated it for the 35 minutes I played. Might have tried to endure longer if it wasn't the German only version, I don't care much about the removal of nazi references but translation and voice acting are, as always, irritating as hell. I read that the ban has been lifted years ago and it's legally available uncut in Germany, so it's odd to get this version in 2022.
People seem to like it but all I see is red flags popping up uncomfortably reminding me of the dark age of FPS games. No thanks.

It's a fun game, but people like it for its narrative more than anything else. It feels "old school," and people like that too. Hunting for med kits to heal, armor etc. But I think people forgot it mostly once id came and rebooted Doom.

The scene in the nursing home was quite something. I enjoyed it up until the final boss, who I had a hard time with.
I have most likely abandoned Port Royale 4 and Whispers of a Machine.
Port Royale 4 - well, once you get sick of manual trading, and you set up automated trading routes, what else is there? The answer is building out your towns, and I have got a bit fed up of building games, so that's no good. Would like to play a trading game where it's a bit more complex than buy low, sell high, but can't think of anything off hand. Maybe Offworld Trading Company, though that seems more like an RTS.
Whispers of a Machine is a well-regarded point and clicker, but I'm not clever enough or don't have the mindset, so they turn into plodding across the map in order to randomly click on something, or attempt to combine something that should never be combined. I bounced off Disco Elysium earlier in the year too, so I guess the genre is not for me.

The game with the 2 daughters was truly awful, had to bin it after the first mission.
Shame as the first 2 of the new ones were great fun.

The daughters one was co-op only wasn't it?
I did not try it because of that, despite loving the recent two. I just want to mess about in a wolfenstein without worrying about someone else!

Nah, you could play solo with a shitty AI partner. It was just really crap, and took bullet sponge enemies to a whole new level.

I would have liked Wolfenstein more if it weren't such a weird mix of old and modern shooters design. And I don't think they picked up the best parts from each.

I didn't mind Youngblood. It had it's low points for sure, and the daughters are borderline insufferable, but I found it to be pretty enjoyable nonetheless.

Wolkenstein is an old school shooter alright, but a CoD clone? That seems like a rather peculiar categorization.

It's nothing like a cod game other than you shoot bullets. The gunplay doesn't even feel anything like it either.

You can dual wield shotguns. I liked the daughters, they were fun. The problem with YB was enemies being so tough and having different armour types which needed different weapons. Made it feel like a chore, especially going back through repopulated areas over and over again
I didn't finish the second game because of the hub area. Took forever to find the NPCs you have to talk to to progress to the next proper level. I don't think there was even a map to show you where they were

Describing it as a CoD game has made me physically sick. I've just vomited all over my shoes. I might even shit myself next, I'm that disgusted.

Actually now that I think of it they both have the wuntypistol so maybe he is right. And everyone knows the wuntypistol is a cod staple based on his love for the franchise.

Everygame needs a wunty weapon.
Wonder if hogwarts unleashed or whatever the fuck it's called will have a wuntywand.
