Just think of the summons as your own, personal, in-universe difficulty slider. I think they're a fantastic addition, probably the best thing that Elden Ring added to the series.

I wish I liked the From games like people do, of the 3 I've played none have clicked so I'm really hoping ER will when I play it.
I never get the compliments of the combat, to me it's really clunky. And that's where I think I'm going wrong with it for some reason.

I really didn't enjoy BoTW at all and there have been (small) portions of the ER open world experience that I've not enjoyed, too. It has wormed into my brain though, and as someone who is not a previous souls player I think it says a bit about the quality of the world when I just knocked off an 11.5hr shift and I can't decide whether to boot it up or not.

Plus, the summons do some really cool shit. Like the Kaiden Sellsword who does his war cry and charges straight in like a mad bastard swinging his huge curved sword around, or the perfumer who gives you the buffs, self-resurrecting skeletons, exploding little pot-creatures, zombie dogs. They're awesome, basically

And that's where I think I'm going wrong with it for some reason. As a seasoned souls player there are moments where you are reminded how clunky the combat is , whether it’s odd tracking or the incosnsitent frame rate makes it feel a bit soft. The Combat comes into its own when you fight bosses and hard enemies and the fights become like a dance; the dodging, rolling, looking for tells, picking the moment to get your hits in, it’s thrilling when the various games come together like that. I don’t think there is a anything else like it, everything become second nature and you’re just so in the moment. It had wonderful analogue feel to it . I actually think the series as lost that that a little bit with Sekiro and Er. It was starting to show in DS3 too. It’s why I’m not so keen on Elden Ring as others. I guess with each new entry they have to up the stakes and many of the boss fights are brutal combo onslaughts where it feels like you are holding on for dear life. It’s lost that rhythm of the dance so to speak. It still there in parts but it hasn’t quite given me the same enjoyment as other titles. But that could be down to it being the 7th game in 10 years that use the souls formula.

Really? I actually think Sekiro was the one that made its fights most like a dance compared to the rest... Parry, parry, jump, attack, parry, backstep... Every fight felt like it had its own rhythm to find and, since you had few other options besides sword and skill, you learned that dance or you died trying

I'm glad that my brave choice to stand up and speak my mind about Elden Ring has lead to others feeling they are able to now step forward and say they also think it's just quite good. I feel proud, like a suffragette

I found it quite impenetrable to get into, despite the sound of the Parry being ridiculously good, even seductive. Just that I found it really difficult. It is something I would like to to back too and give it a proper go.

Wasn't really sure what I was suppose to be doing but when it clicks, it really does and feels great to play

You are correct! I'm not very good at Elden Ring. (and I don't care)

Tunic, highly recommend this one but got to the final boss and said fuck it. Don't have time for this. The bosses are extremely difficult in this game and it's trial and error in the first few encounters which pisses me off.
Far: Lone sails. Nice enough and the ship is cool but after a few hours got very repetitive. May finish it some day as I suspect I'm near the end.
RDR2: Binned again. I'm sure I'll give it another go but this is the last of my physical games and when I put the disc in my PS5 it gives off an unmerciful whirring sound. It's also got the shittest controls known to man and I know it'll never get a 60fps update without a re-release.

Monster Hunter Rise, for “the” second time. Feels too much like work, innit?

Whenever I try and pick it up again, I never get much further than character creation. That's the best bit

I’ve put 100 hours into AC Valhalla over the past year and still have 5 regions to do. Lost a lot of steam with it and considering just playing other stuff and maybe coming back to it at some point in the future. Love the setting but the story isn’t great, there’s not much variety and just not having a lot of fun with it now.

That's the first AC I've felt zero drive to continue. Story and setting are just so bland to me. Especially coming off Egypt and Greece. Eivor is such a boring protagonist too.

I think I managed about 10-15 hours with it before the story got more and more boring with endless dialogue that was patently uninteresting with a gameplay loop that felt like endless busy work. I do wonder if they'll ever move away from the open world template?

Not what you're asking for I'm sure, but they did do the three Chronicles games which were pretty much 2D Prince of Persia in the AC world. They were fun, but nobody bought them.

I saw in a leak they're making a new 2.5d Prince of Persia game.

After getting the plat on AC2 I never felt the need to complete another AC game. I remember buying AC3 and it ran like arse so I never visited another.

My Xbox 360 died for the final time, quite close to the end of AC2 (I think - the pope one) and I never felt the need to go back to the series.
Really enjoyed the first one: the time and setting really appealed to me.
Never did like Ezio, or whatever his name is.

AC games have always seemed like horrible ones to plat. AC2 especially with the feathers and stuff (was that the first 100% sync game too or did they add that in the Ezio sequels?)
It's a great series up until Odyssey for just jumping in and doing what you enjoy doing and then seeing the story through. Would feel far too much like busywork for me going for the plat and would've put me off the rest.
Ezio is a great character imo. It was cool seeing him transition from cocky little shit to weathered assassin over the three games.
