I apologise for not blindly agreeing with the "watered down" bollocks that you can't explain. Hugs, Ecosse. I did explain it and you dismissed it, you big weirdo
Why would I even bother to go into it further when you'll just do the same?
God Almighty
More than one seed per new estus flask = "watered down". Got it.

What about if you haven't played it and are generally insouciant? Not good enough, choose a side. Here’s the problem. If I say it’s great and I love it, people will start asking me questions that I won’t be able to answer and will be exposed as a great big phony. So I guess it’s horrible person. Story of my life!

Anyway, there is quite some enjoyment in abandoning a game that isn't clicking for you, I do like the feeling of realising, dumping and being filled with enthusiasm about the next game really hitting home.

Your reading comprehension is severely lacking. That's not calling you stupid.
Anyway I'm not in to argue with you for your opinions on Elden Ring, as I've said, I couldn't care less. I just didn't want to see you take offence when I don't think it was meant in that way, and my intention was to point that out, that's all.

Ecosse, you're only succeeding here in proving the point that people get overdefensive about From games, which I don't think anyone else is. Drop it dude.

He explained it pretty well but you kept on.
Fwiw I think he's wrong and that it absolutely is groundbreaking and amazing.

I'm still really enjoying Elden Ring, loving it at times, but agree with pretty much everything Alison says.
I'm around 70 hours in and my favourite area/boss is still Stormveil Castle - great maze-like design, interesting architecture/enemies topped off by a terrific boss.
Whilst exploring the world is fun it's now more often than not leading to the same results - another catacomb, another gaol, another church, another repeated mini-boss, another cave etc.
The difficulty curve is also all over the place due to the open world nature of the game - think back to FROM games like Dark Souls and Sekiro which had a great curve that peaked at just the right moments (Ornstein and Smough, Genichiro) that made you feel like a badass. Hardest fight in this has been Margit, 40 hours ago (and still the most satisfying fight I've had).
It's a fantastic game and I'm really enjoying it but LTK said it best for me - it doesn't feel like there's any groundbreaking design here, it's really just an open world Dark Souls.
I'm absolutely fine with that!

BOTW's design was and From have mixed that with the Souls formula and added a few nice new things, simple as that. Many people love the freedom and sense of exploration, some would rather have an old fashioned Souls Game, no?

There isn't really any big groundbreaking design at play here. Dark Souls had that, and this is just Open World Dark Souls. I (and a lot of people) really like Dark Souls and I always want more of it, and Elden Ring delivers exactly that. Pretty much how I see it, which is why I said the open world aspects aren't necessarily flaws. I just prefer the more condensed experience of DS. My favourite part was probably Stormveil Castle, which is basically a DS level. For me, the 'more of it' isn't more of what I want, it's open world stuff. Fine if you just like knocking about in a fantasy world, but that was never the draw for me in the first place
Essentially, my experience of it is that to make it bigger, they watered it down with open world design. Of all the bosses I fought, two felt like a big deal. The others felt like mini bosses. I'd rather take my DS neat
I don't want to change your mind about Elden Ring, you'll solely decide whether you'll abandon it or not, however since you already bought it, you may choose to try the rest of legacy dungeons, such as Stormveil Castle, which are a handful and as you say are basically DS levels. You'll also probably find them a suitable challenge, considering some helpful upgrades for your health and weapons are found in the open world.
Of course, it always comes down to this: your time, your money and your choice

I think a fair few reviewers have (or I'd assume so with the review scores it's received) but I could be mistaken. BOTW is the best game I've ever played so I'm not against open world design by any stretch - I just don't think it's added as much to the game/experience as I wanted it to for Elden Ring. Makes sense as my favourite FROM game is Sekiro which is probably the 'tightest' of the lot.

Of course, it always comes down to this: your time, your money and your choice Yeah, it's not so much abandoned as putting it on hold until I'm the the mood again. While I was 'into' it, I was really enjoying it and didn't mind chasing sheep around. When an open world game works, you just want to be there doing whatever. Then I started playing RE2/3 and they're very immediate and I didn't play ER for a few days. Went back to it and just felt a bit lost and after wandering around the lake for a bit, just felt like I'd lost my drive. I'm not getting rid or deleting my character - she's so pwetty - just no plans to play it right now
Don't think I've actually said a single actual negative thing about the game

Here’s the problem. If I say it’s great and I love it, people will start asking me questions that I won’t be able to answer and will be exposed as a great big phony. So I guess it’s horrible person. Story of my life! Just brush up on bullshitting and avoid being a horrible person. Win win. I fear it might be far too late for that latter. I probably will have a go on ER at some point, but I suspect it’ll go the way of DS3 for me. Cheap in the sales one day, perhaps.
