I'm about to bin off God of War again. The endgame should be something that scratches all my itches - a grindy bit, a challenge level and a bossrush - but it just doesn't gel with the main game enough. I was thinking of the plat, but killing those Valks is just killing time til Elden Ring

Boss rush? You mean Muspelheim? I don't know if I missed something, but that was just a series of challenges, the bosses involved were very few.

Frame of Mind (Steam)
The concept is right up my alley, a surreal black and white first-person puzzle game that violates real world rules of space and logic, so you have to adapt to a completely different logic. Or so I hear, because the lack of an invert look option makes it unplayable to me. Is there something about Unity that makes this hard? It's at least the third Unity project thingy I've tried without that option. You can't make a game without that option. You just can't.
Anyway, it's actually a free game, so if it sounds interesting, go to Steam and get it.

Thanks for mentioning it. I hadn't heard about it.
It was ok. I mean some of the puzzle solutions are fairly elegant, but at times I just kind of stumbled onto them without ever understanding what the logic was supposed to be. The environments are unfortunately mostly quite pedestrian and not really interesting or impressive. There is also a bit too much white to be all that comfortable for the eyes.

Yeah that's much harder. Inverted mouse look is so deeply ingrained in my muscle memory I just can't get used to the other way, I tried but it's so fucking awkward and against every instinct. If you can handle both without issues, I think you have to be some sort of prodigy.
There was this Unity project that simulates a drug trip in a club, which was so amazing that I suffered through the wrong control scheme, hoping that after a while I'd make at least a little progress in getting used to it, but no chance, no progress at all.
Speaking of which, I just spent 10 minutes on Google trying to find that project again. Does anyone know what I mean? It begins at the entrance of a club, and you can go on the dance floor, get drinks at the bar, go to the toilet etc. and you're totally tripping. I think it was made by a French guy about 10 years ago. If anyone knows the name of it that would be greatly appreciated.

Valhalla is definitely the lesser of the recent AssCreed Trilogy. Origins was great and I absolutely loved Odyssey. Raiding monasteries was fun in Valhalla, but the story, characters and repetitive "okay now put this person in power" structure were just incredibly boring. God I found Valhalla dialogue so boring, I just would skip it and then I ended up leaving it to my pile of shame. Technically very good but my god then need throw the whole massive story and world in the bin. All the gameworld built by so many people and you just end going from point A to B but never finding any interest in what's around you on the way. I mean this has been my complaint with Ubisoft game worlds for a while now. The last AC game I actively enjoyed was Origins because Egypt was so distinct and it had quite a focused plot but the games have confused massive world and RPG lite mechanics for fun. I mean Odyssey had way too much loot where it was just constant busywork changing things and they went a complete 180 with Valhalla by having loot that was just plain pointless. One more thing the combat currently is bobbins, Ghost of Tsushima an AC like made combat something I actively loved partaking in.

THPS 1+2
My reaction times cannot do my muscle memory justice. I'd also forgotten how frustrating THPS could be.

Recently abandoned: Daemon X Machina (the current free game on EGS)
A manga-style mech game in the vein of Armored Core (which I haven't played so can't make any comparisons). I really like the visual style, the upbeat music in the hub, and I thought the character creator was great too. Sadly, gameplay seems to be really bare bones, with what feels like the same "circle-strafe-fly around and hold the trigger while the auto aim destroys random objects in the distance" over and over again in 2-minute missions. I've only finished 7 or 8 missions, but I looked up a review and it said that's a persistent issue over the entire game, and probably its downfall.
What makes it worse is dialogue and cutscenes. Like, in a single 2-minute mission I get an intro cutscene, an outro cutscene, a mid-level cutscene and several interruptions of text dialogue. And all of it is just endless, stupid, empty blather. At least let me just blow up stuff dammit! Now thankfully you can skip all of that via start button, however what you can't skip is them blathering BS all the fucking time during gameplay. Please let me just shoot stuff, without asinine dialogue by asinine characters all the time. All the time they spent writing all that would have been much better used for creating a little more varied gameplay.
Is this a common thing among more recent Japanese games? It's the third one I've played after Gunvolt and Mighty No. 9 where people are constantly talking meaningless shit while you're playing. I don't care SHUT THE FUCK UP! It's really grating in this game, without it I'd have tried longer to see if gameplay gets more interesting, but it's so annoying I just gave up on it.

Yes! Thank you! It is so awesome. I remember all the good press it got back in the day. Also, your Frenchman is none other than (British) Stephen Lavelle, which is a detail I didn't remember until I looked it up just now. Dude's got a hell of a rap sheet. Now if only I could remember the name of that weird jazzy walking sim with the building shaped like a giant face on all of its marketing materials. Its name could not possibly be more on the tip of my tongue, but whenever I try to remember it my brain snags on "Rusty Lake Hotel" and "The Red Strings Club" and those are local minima I can't pull away from. Any ideas?

The Norwood Suite? I'm not assuming you are thinking of anything by Blendo Games, are you?

RobTheRobber thanks for the review of DxM, I suspected that much. Did not even "buy" it yet on EGS, will not bother. As a side-note, anybody knows how to permanently REMOVE/HIDE games from your EGS account? I have too much stuff there I would prefer not to even see.

I had visions of Tales From Off-Peak City but clearly The Norwood Suite was the title that was tugging at my memory because it exactly fits the pattern of "The [something] [socializing place]".

I think I'm about to stick Guardians of the Galaxy in this pile. The humour and voice acting is great, the story is reasonably interesting, but my god the gameplay and combat could hardly get any more middle of the road if it tried. I’m on chapter 12 and absolutely loving it, the story gets better as it goes along and the writing/acting is some of the best. I basically put it on mega easy mode just so I can breeze through the combat. Weirdly I’m enjoying the combat much more now there is zero challenge.

Just abandoned Eastward (Switch) it's a lovely looking game with a good soundtrack but I found myself just getting bored. I'm near the end (in the penultimate dungeon I think) but I just want it to be over. The dungeon I'm in is massive apparently and I'm at the point where some of the time based puzzles were talking me 4 or 5 goes to get right which is really frustrating so into the abandoned pile it goes.

Sacked of Astroneer after about 1 hour, I only started the poxy thing to get my daily 50 gamepass points for getting any achievement. It is atrocious, very counterintuitive to control and just not fun. I came from this after completing "Packing" (played for the same initial reason) which while simple had some fun to it.

Think I'm done with Star Wars: The Old Republic.
Me and a friend had been playing through the levelling quests, just a few hours once a week.
But we've reached the Shadow of Revan expansion and it's basically all personal single player phases, which has basically ruined it for us. There are other, much better single player games I can spend time playing.

Call of Juarez: Gunslinger. Picked it up cheap, and was initially enjoying it. Then, I got to a duel. That’s…the worst fucking thing, what with the floaty, sluggish controls. I will not subject myself to that. Good day!

Zippy well, I completed CoJ: Gunslinger and enjoyed it. Though some duels were annoying, but overall I liked the setting and atmosphere. My nostalgia might have played a role in that as I loved western movies a s a kid. I am of the opinion that the floaty controls in duels were there on purpose. You know, how duels are hard in real life too. As a side-note the game was free on Steam a while ago.

Never got around to CoJ Gunslinger despite owning it. I love the first CoJ. It was janky and really weird but was a very unique experience.

I know it got slated, but I wanted a Cartel/BB style game! As for Gunslinger, never finished but seem to remember I enjoyed my time with it.

Don’t get me wrong, I think the moment to moment gunplay in Call of Juarez: Gunslinger is good fun. But I got to the second duel, and just do not have the patience for those mechanics. Not at all.

Persona 4 Golden is close to being dropped. I loved it until the first boss which I’ve read the guide.. I’ve done exactly what was asked. Now I either go back a week for the second time to try and beef myself up or I just drop it. Having a bastard hard boss at the start when they don’t prep you for the boss is pretty unfair.

Star Wars The Old Republic - abandoned before starting
Saw it for free on Steam and mistakenly thought it was KOTOR. On launch it asked me to create an account and I realised this is not KOTOR but some fucking MMO. Maybe the 50GB install size should have made me suspicious.

Persona 5 Royal:
While I love the setting and story, the gameplay balance is all over the place. I do not want to up the difficulty to max just so I dont one shot stuff and sleep through bosses. Max difficulty really should not influence xp and money gained..
Basicly, whenever I gain anything to help me out in combat all I do is ignore it. Fact I can spent money on summoning a 99 demon due to accidently clicking on a box and getting dlc persona's further trivalizes everything. I am aroind the 55 hour mark and knowing I am not even half way there has burned me out.

Close to binning off Skyward Sword. I think it's the controls, they're hit just a bit off. And you can see this was the prototype for BotW and it just makes me think of that much better game.

Is the prototype thing real? I thought they made BotW to be the complete opposite of SS because people didn't like it
