This review is pretty positive on single player
Says it's spooky on your own but the controls are bit wonky with a controller

Not sure I'll be playing any horror games this Halloween. Crow Country looks interesting but I'm already really enjoying what I'm playing and don't really feel like starting something else

Personally I'd say it really needs to be played co-op. But also I wouldn't want to play it with random people. It's very much a group co-op game IMO. I think it would be kind of dull playing solo.

Decided to play Resident Evil HD (REmake) as a Halloween game. Having started it at various occasions in the past, but never sticking with it (same with most RE games, bar 4) it is shocking how much of a protagonist the mansion actually is.
Loving it so far and actually plan to finish it this time, probably even start a RE marathon for the following months!

You mean those cunts that rise suddenly and charge at you full speed? The first one that did that met his demise with the shotgun but I almost shat myself in the process

Got a question on this: is there enough kerosene around to burn corpses? 'cause I've found three containers so far and try to be conservative with its use...

In the classic RE style, it is fairly easy to run past enemies. Perhaps the hunters being the exception.

Got Ghostwire Tokyo in the PS sale. Couple of hours in and it’s fucking brilliant. Really digging it.

Ghostwire Tokyo is great but now probably isn’t the time to tell you it’s just been announced as a psplus game 🫣

I was convinced it had already been on ps+ and I’d missed it or something. Bit cheeky putting it in the sale but I don’t particularly begrudge paying £15 for it, the cunts.

Ha. It’s the kind of thing that normally happens to me. However fifteen quid is still well worth it. I got it at launch and really liked it. It’s got its flaws but it’s also just really cool.

Wondering what I should play for the weekend, since Sanitarium is done. I was thinking perhaps a Silent Hill 3 replay, but I could also grab something cheap on sale.
Did anyone here end up playing Withering Rooms? Any opinions on it?

Yeah. I actually do. I bought it. The thought of virtual ghost hunting is right up my alley.

The bits and pieces of footage I've seen on Youtube indicate there's enough there to interest me when I eventually get around to it.

I've (unsurprisingly) got it. Played it for a bit. Not sure if it's my thing or not tbh. It didn't really grab me.

Admittedly I really like dungeon crawlers, so any kind of grimy plod through a monster infested hellhole fits the bill for me.

It is very cool. I think I just probably wasn't in the mood / have far too many games than I could ever play in my lifetime.

People just need to stop releasing games I want to play. Is that too much to ask?

It does look very cool and I've got a very long weekend ahead of me. Fanatical has it in a bundle, so I guess I can't go wrong for 6.66 euro for that and Doom 2016 (which surprisingly I still don't own, only played it on Game Pass years ago).

Damn you I'm going to have to fire up Withering Rooms later now. But I don't want ot play this game I've spent money on because I have other games I've spent money on to play. Some Lots I've had for a VERY long time, that I haven't fucking touched yet.
Sigh. I need to stop this.

I played a bit of Withering Rooms. It's a good premise and the game itself seemed cool. But I have so many games that each only gets around an hour play time before being consigned to the 'play later' pile.

I just played for about 90 minutes myself. It's very obviously inspired by Dark Souls in places, but not in the usual ways. It's also got some strong roguelike vibes.
The controls seems somewhat unwieldy, and the game clearly favors stealth over combat. Most enemies seem pretty tanky and getting hit is nearly unavoidable, even if you are a master Souls dodge roller. I tried approaching it with the expectation that I could just slash my way through it, and didn't last too long. Guess I'll have to be stealthier until I'm strong enough. I did get quite a bit far in though, at least I hope I did.
It all feels a bit overwhelming so far, but also interesting enough that I'm probably going to stick with it for a while.

Around 7 hours in, and I'm getting the hang of it. There are some very obvious Souls vibes. It's hard for sure, but if you understand how to stack bonuses, even melee is starting to become viable. For example, many items reward you for walking around in a cursed state.
The cursed mansion is also pretty creepy. Probably the best 2D Silent Hill environment yet.
If anyone is on the fence, I suggest giving it a try. For the price, it's definitely worth it.
