A lot of people seem to have a less than stellar experience with Song of Horror. I really tried, but I'll be another one of them. Song of Horror is flawed to the point where it's difficult to tolerate, apparently the word online is that you've got to drop the difficulty level down to the deck to salvage the game.
It's a pity since there's a lot to like and I want to see more puzzle focused horror games, I hope the Song of Horror Team have another try with some sort of followup.
Don't do a 'David Cage' in future, remember in Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophesy where there was a Matrix style fight in a church? Well... Maybe you wouldn't because you had to look up the scenes on Youtube if you actually wanted to see what actually bloody happened because you were focused on a Simon Says mini-game at the bottom of the screen.
Quicktime event mini-games are just not a good fit for horror and atmosphere, your attention needs to be on what's actually happening, not icons at the bottom the screen.

Cappy I have begun Dreadout 2. It's... yeah. Quite janky isn't it. Took me ages to do that first ghost fight until I realised I wasn't trying to take the pic when the camera was going proper glitchy, which is why it wasn't working. I do like it so far though. I love stuff that incorporates all this folklore and superstition that I was never previously aware of. Surprisingly creepy as well.

Playing through Amnesia: The Bunker before my GP expires (that's just five days btw).
I've made some progress in the past two days, I think - the entire map is uncovered and I've seen most of the locations. I also have a decent amount of fuel. That said, I still don't quite understand what I'm supposed to do.
There is one place I have to try yet, but so far the only reliable way to open wooden doors seem to be to blow them up with a barrel or a grenade, and I've run out of those. Could a flare set them on fire? Somehow I doubt it, but I'll try. I haven't yet found the bolt cutters or lighter either. Guess the fact that I'm mostly going around in the dark, to save fuel, is biting me in the back. I might be missing some important items around.

Also can someone tell me how to deal with these freaking rats - I feel like I'm wasting my resources just because I need to pass through them every time, and they return even if I blow them up.

I have also discovered that I can sometimes bait the monster into breaking a door open for me, although it's very risky. Progress will be made, slowly but surely.

For the lighter you first need to find A. Giraud's dog tag, it has the code you need. It can appear in two locations: Foreman's Quarters and the Rats Room, they're close to each other, the rats room has a tripwire trap, if memory serves me right. Once you have the tag, you head to the Mission Storage Room, enter through the vent and unlock the locker.

Trying to find the wrench now, it says the Foreman should have it but his room looks empty. Must be somewhere else. There's a tunnel full of rats leading to the pillbox... I got past them somehow, but of course it needs a key. Probably in the Chapel. Then I tripped a wire and died.
I swear those rats are much worse than the monster. Change of plans for now, I'll see if I can get into the Mess Hall in the Soldiers' Quarters.

I kind of like Operation Raccoon City, there's some interesting stuff for fans of original Resident Evil 2 & 3 in there. At it's best you sometimes get the sense of getting to explore areas that were in the background but could never reach in the original games.
A lot of people hate it but I even like the alternate ending where things can diverge into an alternate timeline where Claire and Leon don't make it.
Some of the fights can try your patience, Hunters take so much firepower to put down, which is as it should be, Hunters are supposed to be top tier and a problem to deal with. At one point you end up having to deal with a duo of Mr X's which is kind of fun, it ties back to that brief scene in Resident Evil 2 when Mr X is deployed and you can see that there are missing canisters, suggesting that Umbrella had already dropped off a few in the City and we finally get to meet them.

It does seem interesting, so to speak. My main problem is that it's a shallow Gears clone mixed with L4D, which would be fair enough if it didn't also have such poor weapon feedback and terrible input detection.

Hellnight doesn't really have that particular sense of classic jank due to playing out in first person, making a lot of the jank invisible, your partners are always behind you too so you don't see them doing much either.
That's why so many PC indie games opted for first person in the 2000s. It's cheap and far less of a headache.
Hellnight's a pretty interesting game, extra kudos if you have an original copy. I've got mine, plus Dark Messiah the Japanese original.

Played quite a bit this afternoon, and got up to the second task from Leno. I like the visual style. Reminds me of Baroque. Not bad so far, even if the puzzles are all very simple and the monster is pretty easy to avoid.
... that said, I'm really bad at keeping my partners alive.

I started Death Mark 2, which is quite nice. Switched from dungeon crawler perspective to more of a Twilight Syndrome (or Detention for more modern example) perspective but atill quite interesting so far.

Thomas Grip of Frictional used to post a lot of thoughts on their old website, which has basically stopped. I think the old website used to be more of a (semi-)personal blog. " In the games of madness" is up again as a youtube-channel. Mostly about design stuff.

Hope consoles get some of the steam survival horror games as the genre was massive on consoles during the dreamcast/ps2 era. There is a lot of shovelware SH games like the awful outbreak series on consoles
Hoping Hollowbody (aka silent hull) is coming to consoles

Reviews for the new AITD are starting to come out. I haven't read them, as I'd prefer to form my own opinion on it, but the few scores I've seen look somewhat divided.
Anyway, I've got my wallet credit stashed, at this point I've decided to simply use it. So I'll be going in blind. Haven't even checked any trailers or videos, aside from the teaser demo.

Reviews for horror games almost always seem to be divided.
They get re-evaluated, again and again. With a long enough time line, people then say, why can't we have releases like this anymore? This was actually quite interesting. Sorry, the industry has moved on, have a walking simulator with jump scares instead.
Review eviscerations can suddenly overturn years later, or not. At the end of the day, is it interesting? does it draw me in and capture my attention? That's all that really counts for horror games, story telling is at the forefront and technical issues tend to be easily forgiven.

I've finished the Carnby path in the new AITD.
I'll save my thoughts on the story for when I also finish Emily's path. For now I can say that the game is quite janky, as expected, but also that the jank increases as you keep going. It's kind of weird really, near the end the gameplay is basically bursting at the edges. The combat bits are not nearly as good as the adventure bits, and the adventure bits are mostly carried by the story and characters, because the puzzles themselves are pretty trivial for the most part. I liked exploring all the locales though.
One thing for sure, Emily's side of the story has to be very different, since a lot of things happened that were never explained in Carnby's story. We'll see how that goes then. I'll start it tonight.

I gave into to temptation. Resident Evil 3 remake was on sale, I'd heard some not so positive things, I'd not been so enamoured by the remake of Resident Evil 2 either. But it's on sale!
It's everything the previous remake was but worse. Featuring the same frustrating gun play, is three head shots enough? Six? When did Resident Evil games start doing loading screen tips? One such tip informed me that head shots are governed by RNG. Great. You want to me to take the trouble to aim whilst a zombie shit-bag sways and lurches around, then you get to roll a vitual dice and tell me that my head shot was ineffective. You can do that, if the game is turn based.
Fine. It seems like a waste of time shooting anything. I'll make heavy use of the dodge and avoid enemies instead. But they're always right there in the way when you need to do something and you've got no reliable means of getting rid of them. It's pure frustration.
To add insult to injury the remake is incredibly light on content and cuts chunks out of what was already a short game originally. What about Resistance? An entire mode that could have been as fun as the Revelations 2 raid mode, that could easily redeem this whole thing. No offline mode. What? Why would you do this when you are already short on content?
Throw the entire Capcom team responsible for this into an olympic size swimming pool filled to the brim with shit and used tampons and make them stay there. Then set up a remake style virtual dice roll to determine when they can come out, they'll be masters of doing the doggy paddle through filth.

RNG headshots for Resident Evil have always been par for the course since the very first game (for the handguns anyways).

Yeah RE games have never played by the zombie convention of one kill headshots. I love the fact you just pump bullets into them and the bastards keep coming.
