Bro, I played 5 minutes of Demon’s Tilt for 100 points. Now I won’t bother.

I guess nowadays one could make Xbox One-level portable hardware, maybe even make it compatible with Xbox One games, and it would have a pretty big library to begin with?

Steam Deck is pretty much PS4 tier and it's far from being the most powerful handheld out there, just far better balanced than the crap it competes with.

Yeah that's my point, if they only need to make it as powerful as an Xbox One, it should be pretty easy by now, so it would have good battery life too and perhaps even a low price point. If they only need to mantain compatibility with the X1 library, it would be more than enough. Might be a tad problematic for newer games though. I wonder if it would share similar specs as the Switch 2...?

I suppose this is where xCloud comes in, the handheld is natively compatible with every Xbox One-generation game, and can stream Series X/S games.

If they only make it compatible with Xbox One games (or that generation) natively, that’s a hard sell though surely? Can they do a Series S portable?
Just feels like an official Xbox device that can’t play Starfield, Redfall, Forza 7 etc is a bit niche and hard to market to anyone less familiar with the market than we are.

Yeah my guess is they will be aiming for around the Series S power.

RDNA4 should be a lot more efficient at upscaling and Ray tracing if the ps5 pro leaks are any indication. And Zen5 should beare leapss ahead of Zen2.
The bandwidth of mobile RAM is poor, but so is the RAM in the Series S, so no problem there!
A 2025 AMD handheld approximately as powerful as a Series S seems feasible.

I was just reading an article about how badly the Xbox is doing in terms of hardware sales. I have a pc, Xbox and I had a ps. I do see that the ps5 is a nice bit of kit and Sony have some nice console exclusives but game pass is just so much better than anything else available I just don’t get why the ps5 sales are so far ahead of Xbox at this point in the console cycle. Power wise they are almost identical with some games better on ps and some on Xbox. Controller wise they are both excellent. Exclusive games ps is better but Xbox has some great ones as well and 95% of games are on both. Maybe it’s as simple as ms fucked up so hard last gen that it’s that weird brand loyalty people have like people just blindly keep buying iPhones without checking out the alternative when it comes to time to get a new phone.

I think it is largely a case of MS fucking up the gen in which a lot of gamers digital collection grew. But MS also do a shit job of advertising Xbox. Can't even remember the last time I saw a TV ad for anything Xbox related? Sony even pushed out an ad for Forspoken..
Not to mention all the mixed messaging from them, especially Phil who at times seems to be stuck between what the people above him want and what the Xbox team want.

I don't get how you spend over 70Bn while screaming competition then throw in the towel months later.

I think you will find that the whole gaming industry is indeed seeing a bit of a plateau.

I think it's also becoming extremely obvious that AAA game production is massively unsustainable and is almost near breaking point.

They are but MS still do a crap job of promoting Xbox consoles. Studios could also stop spending 200m+ on games.
Or all those new studios that feel the need to make a big budget game right out the gate. Then have to gut its staff numbers due to no profit.

This gen XBOX have shot themselves in the foot with the Series-S. When you have a lesser machine that must be supported with your 1st party and even 3rd party games, it just doesn't make sense to prioritising XBOX. I also think that due to the gamepass being so good for value, when a game comes out and you have to stump up £50-£70, not many are going to bite.
MS have not really capitalised their 1st party games either. This might change in the next few years but with everyone getting their 1st party games for "free", it's hard to see where they are going to get the money back from.

I get why they did day 1 but always felt MS should have gotten 6 months of sales before putting games onto Game Pass.

I believe from what I’ve seen the series s has been the great seller not the x. My son has an s and it’s an absolutely amazing console for the price point. I couldn’t recommend it more for someone on a budget.

Yeah they have sold more S than X consoles but that might be due to the S being much easier to get during covid. But Xs sales haven't exactly shot up since being easy to get and the PS5 is easily outselling both 2:1 maybe more.

Every company believing or even hoping the lockdown would last longer than it did

Yeah. Activision apparently hired a lot of extra staff due to working at home. Did see an article saying a lot of people would have been let go this year even if MS hadn't purchased them. It just became more because they suddenly had a lot of people doing the same jobs.

Plus you know, letting go a load of people near the end of the financial tax year to make that spreadsheet look good for the investors.

Love my S, Gamepass and Quick Resume.
For my money Xbox are still struggling from the colossal fuck up of the Xbox One's initial marketing.
A complete Ratner moment they've never recovered from.
