I thought Wolfenstein 2 (is that the one with the submarine?) was gorgeous!

Pretty impressed with that. Think I'd enjoy all those games.
Wonder how I'll get on with Ara, whether I'll just end up bouncing off it because it's not Civ, like I did with Humankind.

I’m slightly disappointed Indy is an FPS, with some third person. Not going to shit on it though, as what was shown looks very promising.

Completely missed that there had been an Indy reveal until now!
Looks pretty good to me. Thought it graphically looked great. Not a huge amounts of gameplay, but seemed like it was reasonably faithful to tone of the films rather than trying to be Uncharted or modern day Tomb Raider. Not so sure about the voice work for Indy though. Sounded like it was trying to be a Harrison Ford impression, whilst also trying really hard to not appear like one. Some of it ended up sounding a little flat, but maybe it will work better within the game.

Tbh all I could hear was Troy Baker's voice trying do Indy but sounding like Troy Baker.

Being Machine Games and idTech, I'm guessing we're nailed on for 60fps as a default too. I'd be willing to accept a bit of shonk on the visuals (not that I thought they looked bad at all, really) for the higher framerate.

Tbh all I could hear was Troy Baker's voice trying do Indy but sounding like Troy Baker. He's voiced so many things now that I can't just think...that's Troy Baker to everything he does. It just sounds like Troy Baker, even if he's attempting an accent or impression. I bet there are better, and possibly cheaper, Harrison Ford impersonators out there.

I watched the video knowing nothing about who was in it, and came away thinking ‘Christ, how did they convince Harrison Ford to do the voice work?’ Likewise the English professor guy…

I realised it was him towards the end. Sounds a lot like Ford in a lot of clips.

I don't think it sounded like Ford necessarily but he's absolutely nailed the speech patterns and mannerisms so it sounds like Indy, if that makes sense.
I also think if 2023 Ford voiced the game you'd know, his voice is different to how it sounded forty years ago. I thought the de-aged scenes at the beginning of Dial of Destiny looked fantastic but you could definitely hear the years (or was it the mileage?) in Indy's voice.

Heh. The antagonist looks like the director from Doom 3 – with more hair.

I wish the console would stop showing me titles are available in Quick Resume but they relaunch when opened.

Been playing the demo of Lightyear Frontier and so far it's ace.
One of my most anticipated games and it looks like it's going to live up to expectations.

Lots of rumours going now that Xbox consoles are dead and MS going full 3rd party. Some saying they are going to bring every Xbox Game to other platforms a year after Xbox release.
All because someone not part of the Xbox team at MS has demanded it.
Sarah Bond is supposed to be making some announcement later this month.

Would be huge, if true. Means that this monopoly that’s fans feared Microsoft might have would become a Sony one instead. At least until Microsoft can force Gamepass on to other platforms.

End of an era
Game Pass will probably be an ad filled, expensive shitshow within a few years as well.
MS looked to be back on track post the launch of Gamepass and One X, but their first party management has been abysmal since. 6 years to release buggy and incomplete games that offer little over their predecessors.
I've invested a lot in the Xbox ecosystem so it'll be shit if they think it'll please shareholders (looks like the Activision acquisition hasn't) to get rid of it in the far future.

But how will I keep kidding myself that I’ll clear my backlog of x360 and XBone games someday, if I can’t play them on a current gen console?

Nah, Game Pass is great, they just barely tried to sell it to people.
But it feels like they're not going to bother now and are going to start to look at ways to squeeze more out of subscribers via enshittening of the service.

It does feel like MS screwing over the hardcore fanbase to some degree. If I spent £500 on a console that doesn't have the PS exclusives in favor of the MS one, I'm gonna feel pretty miffed when all those exclusives go over to other consoles but not getting the benefit of Sonys games coming my way either. Series X/S sales are already lagging quite far behind PS5, so if by the time PS6/Series Z is launching its standard to expect an Xbox game to come to PS sooner or later, how many people are really going to be lining up to buy an Xbox? Could be pretty bad for them in hardware sales, unless they are pivoting towards full 3rd party which would be pretty big.

One rumour is they're planning to licence out the Xbox spec to 3rd parties to make consoles. A gimped expensive PC with an Xbox badge.
A portable Game Pass console that could play Series S ports is likely possible in the next couple of years and would be appealing to me, but if Microsoft aren't making it it'll be costly and a bit rubbish.

I would suspect that would be the case. Console sales are already lower than the competition, and I would expect game sales to trail behind due to the uptake of GP. The generally established situation is that console don't make the money, the title attach rates do, and I can't imagine that's doing a huge business for them.
So eventually moving from hardware to software and service, as they've alluded to a few times, will be the eventual direction.

I mean for me who's mostly been Sony, even though I've owned every Xbox.. I find myself incredibly disappointed by the first party releases this generation. I remember when I first picked up the OG Xbox, and the first party releases, and exclusives felt new and fresh. Then 360 I had the same experience. For me I haven't felt the same since. I mostly use my Series X for GP indie games, and older OG/360 games. I have zero interest in Halo, Starfield, GoW.

If all this comes to pass then Sony will lose its main competitor which will be a further disincentive, along with high interest rates, to invest in game production and keep prices for consumers competitive.
MS will try and get Game Pass on everything, but it would likely end up being all 1st party stuff with very little indie games to try and certainly no EA/Ubisoft deals. And if that doesn't work for them they'll cut their losses and bin the whole thing.
It's a shit deal for everyone!

And to think everyone was losing their shit about the ABK acquisition. Now it's just going to be one major console maker in this specific area as Nintendo does it's own thing. It's kinda sad as competition is good for the industry.

One thing I can't make sense of is how they are (finally) starting development on the next Xbox with this in the background. I mean the rumour of it being a discless game pass machine now makes even more sense, but why even bother with that? Unless it is significantly cheaper than the PS6, other than the grossly misinformed who would buy the new Xbox over the console that supports everything?
