Yup! This Thursday in Manchester! Found out the other day that the other support band, the Estonian punk one, are on tour. They've done Estonia, Latvia and Finland and this is the first time they've ever come to the UK, so they're fucking stoked!

I've played guitar for 20 years but never tried it. Want to give it a go and wondered what digital piano to buy. A lot of snobbery around needing weighted keys etc so been looking at P45 yamaha but can get touch sensitive non weighted keys for less.

It's called Aatma, and it's above a pub called the Peer Hat, in the northern quarter in Manchester - aatmavenue.co.uk/Stage looks fairly big. I mean, San Pedro are an 8 piece and they're playing, so even with all our synths, we should be ok Not sure on crowd capacity. couple of hundred maybe? |

So will have a look at what you sent me and some other bits. Leaning towards the NP12 yamaha. It's got all of above. 6 octaves, Touch sensitive. Just not weighted etc. Mrs damagedinc thinks I should get something like the p45 and just be done with it. Whilst I'm being a bit more conservative. Especially as I am dipping my toes at this stage. If its like the guitar then if you're that good you can make a shitty 100 pound squire sing! |

Get weighted - it really adds to you feeling what your playing.
Otherwise it’s like playing the guitar but not being able to bend the strings.

I'd still highly recommend demoing some before you buy anything. I've played some weighted keybeds and they've been unbelievably shit. Others have been really good. It's a bit of a minefield to be honest because of the different apporaches different companies take. Yamaha normally get it spot on though. But try them out at least!

Yeah, there's some resistance on weighted. The stupid thing is that you can get semi-weighted and fully weighted. It's the fully weighted ones that can feel really strange. Really hard to play lightly with them for some reason. Couldn't be further away from feeling like a piano in some cases.
None weighted is just as crap too, zero resistance apart from the spring mechanism that moves the key back to the default position after you've let go of it. But then you can get aftertouch on synthesizer keyboards, where you press it down normally for the note, and then while you're still pressing it, press it even harder and it will activate whatever effect/thing you've mapped to the aftertouch setting. Semi weighted aftertouch keybeds are really nice, but I'm wandering off topic here, as Damage just wants a digital piano.
