quadfather It IS Egyptian Space Rock isn’t it? Love it! Possibly even better than the mince pie song. It's not just me then? Thank god I told the band and they just shrugged haha.

Pfff. It's very much Egyptian Space Rock. I think you should take in a wooden Pharoah's beard and when you next play it, just pop it on your chin when no-one's looking. They'll soon get on your side.

I might get my synth to do a sort of windy/noise sound in the background too, to give it a vibe of sand dunes or something

Yes. Do that.
Then possibly just put it to your drummer / singer to change the lyrical content to be about the Old Kingdom. It would help if you wore the beard at this point.

Aaaaand just when we were getting to grips with some new songs, it looks like we have another gig, if the drummer can make the date. It's Thursday 16th Feb in Manchester (for the first time) supporting a band called The San Pedro Collective. Their drummer used to play for the smiths and later on, the fall. We'd only be on for a 30 minute set, but it's fantastic exposure for us in Manchester as the place hosts a lot of Manchesters up and coming bands. This is the advert for it - aatmavenue.co.uk/event/san-pedro-collective-shelton-san-support/So if you're around in town on that Thursday, pop on in!

It's pretty good isn't it. The synth player is really good at networking with musicians and marketing us. Definitely helps.
It does mean though, that Egyptian space rock will have to go on the back burner for a bit, boooo!
I reckon we could fit 6 songs in 30 mins.
If it's anything like the other gigs, 30 minutes will feel like 5 minutes! It goes so fast doesn't it.

I’ve read his autobiography- it’s a good read. Unfortunately I’m away with work then or I’d have gone.

It was his bassist we were talking to and they both liked our songs so basically, let's go. Ah pity youre not around, but yeah, Thursdays aren't the best days either but we need to start somewhere in town - not good enough to headline yet!

As usual, I'm late but I listened to both tracks. wunty I like that. It's got a very Misfits-y vibe to it. Not just the lyrical content, but the sound generally. Not sure what you'd call it but it sits somewhere between hardcore punk and metal, perhaps? I like it and I'd definitely listen to a record of that. The drums suit it really well, fwiw, so maybe you don't need a "real" drummer? quadfather, I can't quite get my head around yours. It sounds like something, but I can't put my finger on it. I probably need to listen again on something other than this laptop's shitty speakers (curse my now much missed Mac) and I'll give some proper feedback.

dogbotThanks man! I was listning to loads of punk stuff whilst I was cleaning my gear so that's very much the mindset I was in! Do you know what, if you reckon there's potential there I think I might do a wee EP myself of stuff like this and fire it on to amazon/spotify etc.

Sounds like something familiar, or just can't hear it for the speakers? Yeah, it won't sound good on tinny speakers I'm afraid. It's not a very good quality version for some reason, not sure why. They're normally ok

quadfather No, just that my laptop speakers are fucking shit and I can't make it out as well as it deserves. I'll play it back on headphones later on.

Sort of Misfits meets Leatherface. I'd definitely play that sort of thing.

Shoegazey. Souvlaki era Slowdive, perhaps? Uh oh, might be well on the way into serious music pseud territory here! It's good, I like the style, the progression and particularly the rhythm section and rhythm guitar (there's two, right, rhythm and lead?) although I think I'd prefer the lead a bit further back in the mix when the whole band is playing, if that makes any sense. It is far easier to critique than create. Sorry.

Maybe. Overall sound, rather than that specific song.

Nice one We appreciated all critque There's only 1 guitarist, and he swaps between his lead bit and the rhythym bit. He's using his new fender for this song, as opposed to his epiphone, and the fender cuts through a bit more. He's still getting used to it at the minute. We won't be playing this song for the gig though, we've only just started jamming it, but it's got a good feel when we play it. Will see how it goes I guess

Like Maybe. Overall sound, rather than that specific song. Yeah I see what you mean. It has that kinda sound but me and the drummer are trying to lock in more to give it more dance power on the rhythm. It's going to take a while and I might need to change my bassline too. It just *has* to funk, no matter what!

Totally missed this!!! A younger me would have fucking devoured this man. As it is all I can say it is awesome. I’ll definitely check out the album even though my days of listening to more extreme stuff regularly are possibly behind me.

Another weekend and another tune. Battered this out in 3 hours yesterday (I get bored of it if I work on it too long): drive.google.com/file/d/1xjeyX6ZZcYEJuTyThr-nS7IQYmfkT0xT/view?usp=sharingIf anyone has a listen... How are my levels? I've kept exactly the same set up as the other one apart from having to do a wee EQ notch to get rid a weird wub noise that was building on the guitars at one point. Just wondered how the balance of everything was as I can't decide if I need less bass / more bass / drums / Vox etc. Mixing was / is never my strong point. Decided to do a wee bit of vocal harmony in the chorus as well for the lols as well as throwing in a Westlife "get up off the stool" key change at the end.
