Les Paul Special, 60 Reissue. Basically a Jr with 2 P90s and a bound fretboard

A very hastily thought out NGD I’ve been eyeing these up for ages. Is it as good as everybody says?

Also does it have fret edge binding?

It’s well lush. I’ve wanted one of these double cut specials for a while and Peach got this one in stock so I thought fuck it, I’ll regret letting it pass. It resonates unplugged like a bell, first time playing a wraptail and it makes the strings a bit slinkier, it balances better when sitting down than my Standard which is nice. P90s are just awesome things too. The neck is bound like a Standard on these Specials, Jrs have Fender looking necks
Here’s a video of the actual guitar

Well, it's been over a year from start to finish but I've just signed off and paid for this album meaning it's now in the queue for digital distribution. All going well it will be released on the 12th August.
Thank god. It's taken aaaaaaages.

Now get back to finding a drummer

quadfather Ha, was just talking about that with my mate yeserday. Now this is done we're renewing the search. THere's got to be SOMEONE dammit. monkman5000 Are you still jamming with that band btw? How's it going?

Yeah, intermittently - it's pretty hard to find times when we're all available, due to work and other commitments and the fact that we're in three different towns. Probably only get together twice a month on average. No progress in terms of getting gigs either, though to be honest we haven't actually tried! The singer keeps coming up with new material, which is all well and good but we really need to get 3 or 4 tracks absolutely nailed and recorded. I've definitely improved to the point that I'm only the weakest link by a smallish distance now, so that's progress

Thats great you're still at it though man! You'll need to keep us posted if you manage to get a gig or recordings etc. Meantime even sporadic jamming is awesome.
I really fucking miss it.

When his album is a massive hit, he'll be drowning in requests from drummers desperate to work with him.
I have faith.

I require schooling.
About the equaliser on the Katana. Received wisdom seems to be that one should have the three controls (you know, bass, middle, treble) at 12 o'clock.
But I'm not sure if it does the sound any favours. I can't decide. Part of me thinks that the Epi sounds better with them at zero and just using the volume and gain.
Playing clean, btw.
Any ideas? Preferences? Am I entirely deaf?

I've got a jazz bass that's active and has on board eq. Great, youd think But for the tone I want, I have to put the pickup on the bridge mainly, the treble high, the bass default and the mids ever so slightly above average. Then on the amp, it's mainly treble again and the rest are low. You'd think this would make it sound ridiculously trebly, but it doesn't. It's *just right* for my ears. So fuck what they say and find your sweet spot too

quadfather cheers. I think to start with, I was happy playing with the crunchy settings and now 6 months on I'm trying to play the electric the way I use the acoustic too and I'm noticing differences and I haven't quite found where I want to be. It's a long time since I played straight up electric guitar. I guess some further experiments are in order. Oh and new strings. Again. Always.

I find if I'm doing a bass line, I have to make sure it works on acoustic bass. Same for guitar and the same for synths (use a piano). If it sounds wrong acoustically, you're never going to be able to polish a turd. Sometimes with effects etc, you can lose sight of that. But you said you're playing clean And new strings always mess things up for a bit I still maintain going for the tone you want, regardless of what everything is set to. But I'm half stoned now so what do I know. Well, I know that I've just had a great noodle on the bass which was nice

Aso, now you're 6 months in, you're probably getting used to how you can do some nice melodies on the guitar which might need some tweaks to emphasise it

I'm certainly getting more adventurous. I've learned some scales and started noodling around the chord sequences with them. It's coming along. Slowly, but I'm enjoying it. Tbh, I think my main acoustic is a few steps above the Les Paul I have. Plus, I've had it well over 20 years so I'm really comfortable with it and used to it. Stuff just sounds better to me when I play it and as such I think I'm more forgiving of the mistakes, whereas with an amped electric, it is right out there, loud.

Crank up the reverb and compression, buy a load of pedals to mask those deficiencies. Ask me how I know!

I ordered a bass ukulele. I was considering buying a double bass but I don't drive and I'm getting a bit old so schlepping it on buses / on the bike might be a bit much.
I have an electro acoustic bass guitar that I converted into an upright but it's in Finland and getting that thing onto planes is always a hassle. So, for my next genius plan I'll be probably one of very few people with an upright bass ukulele.

Aren’t the strings all shitted up like on a regular ukulele

It's standard bass tuning, if that's what you're asking. The strings are typically rubber stock but you can buy metal plated strings.

Never heard of a bass ukulele. Sounds interesting. Got any pictures? I love my double bass but the thought if transporting it is just out the question. But a mini one, hmm
