Oh Daytona looked like ass but then VF something only because Yu Suzuki's team could do witchcraft with Sega hardware. No one else seemed to come close.

You’re both right, no need for this petty bickering. The newly captured demographics for the Wii (families playing Wii sport etc) mostly floated to mobile/casual gaming. The existing demographics for PlayStation and Xbox (more traditional “gamers”) expanded and grew. I obviously can't be sure but I imagine some of the Wii family demographics ended up getting the Switch, Nintendo clearly was aiming to include them in their advertising and I bet the new Switch Sports game sells shitloads. Probably, although as a personal anecdote from the people I know who went from Wii to Switch, it didn’t necessarily maintain the “family” momentum and instead became something for the kids. I’m sure that’s not a universal truth though. |

I'm not sure the Wii grannies picked up a Switch, but I imagine a lot of the general mobile users did. Like people who go on social media and play words with friends.

It not sure the new Wii sports will create the same perfect storm despite that it's likely to be a better game. Some of my friends parents had them for that but I don't think they will be jumping in again.

PS2 being the biggest selling console ever, by some margin, would suggest otherwise Switch + PS4 dwarves PS2 + Gamecube But you’re leaving out DS in your equation |

If they do the Killer Instinct 2013 model, where every season they release a bundle that includes everything, it could work. If they just gatcha lootbox everything though, ugh I may pass. |

The fighting game genre does seem to be moving towards a F2P model only just to expand the amount of people. KI did it really well, I believe Sf5 was going to be F2P from the get go but the development of that was an absolute shit show.

Then there's me playing anything that catches my eye regardless of console since like 2007... I fully recognise I'm both very lucky to be able to do that and (possibly) an outlier of course |

Wii U for me. I technically still prefer it over the Switch because it gave me my favorite RPG since the PS1 era (Xenoblade X, baby!). But it was so short lived, it didn't take long for my Switch library to surpass it.
It's kind of insane to think I own over 500 games between the Xbox One and Series X. I know a good majority were purchased on sale, but fuck.

IT TRANSFORMS INTO A MOTORCYCLE TOO. ahem. I really enjoyed the sidequests, which is where a lot of the world building and humor/drama were in that game. Also, I thought the combat was a good evolution of the first game's without going into tri-Ace level overcomplexity. |

I agree otherwise though, it'll probably be a while with Xeno 3 in the works but I'd really like an X2 at some point. They've certainly left enough sequel hooks to work with...
