I mean if off topic is bad then we need close down any thread that brings up a Ploughman's, sorry, Ploughman's. I don't think anyone got my Porkpie "Plough, man" reference, which made me a little sad Legend of Zelda: Rise of Desmond's

I did the Ruins Strewn Peak earlier and it was quite fun and had an alright boss at the end. Then I got to a new area and saw a massive open plain before me and my heart sank a bit

Wii U for me. I technically still prefer it over the Switch because it gave me my favorite RPG since the PS1 era (Xenoblade X, baby!). But it was so short lived, it didn't take long for my Switch library to surpass it. It's kind of insane to think I own over 500 games between the Xbox One and Series X. I know a good majority were purchased on sale, but fuck. I really want the expected Switch port. But FFS, 500 XBox games? Think I’ve played 5 series X Gamepass games and that’s it. One day it’ll have some good exclusives for me, I keep talking myself .

A lot of incredible digital sales, bing rewards leading to free games, MS also offered free games for catching their old E3/Gamescom streams, in addition to multiplatform games running better on One X/Series X led to.. err 500ish games I guess. I did buy the exclusives too though, despite them being available on GamePass because I still wanted to play them when my sub lapsed. But yeah, when I look at my library folder on the Xbox it's like eeeesh. That's a lot of games.

500+ isn't totally ridiculous. I've got 290 and the Xbox one was my secondary console to the PS4. Other way round now of course with the PS5/Switch being there purely for exclusives.

Narcissist cunt is probably a bit far - in the same article it mentions he changed the perspective to first person and sorted the controls out, hardly the actions of someone who doesn't give a single shit about an IP he didn't create.

Yep, I imagine he has quite an ego, as all the greats inevitably do.

I can't imagine anyone who has been instrumental in creating massive franchises that have entered popular culture wouldn't be up their own arse to a degree.

If I'd singlehandedly created world's and characters that made childhoods and cemented themselves into popular culture, sitting alongside huge brands like Disney, Mickey Mouse, Coca Cola, Marvel and so on i'd think I was fucking brilliant. I think I'm brilliant if I remember to do all of the things I'm supposed to, like not shit myself.
I think you can feel good about yourself without being a dick about it. I guess we'll never know for sure though

He might be an absolute arsehole (probably is), but that is a weird take from that article. The guy from Retro was basically saying that Miyamoto was saying that it was their franchise to do with what they want as far as he was concerned, even if he didn't like what they were doing. Would have been much more of an arsehole move for him to be muscling in and dictate what they should be doing. I'm sure he would be able to get away with doing that if he wanted to, what with it actually being owned by Nintendo.
If it was something he created, they are saying he would be more precious about it and would have had input. Seems reasonable to me.

“ Shigeru Miyamoto was happy for Retro to take on a new game in the series because it wasn't a franchise he himself created. Original lead developer for Metroid Prime John Whitmore told DidYouKnowGaming: "Miyamoto didn't care if we killed it". “
I’m not basing it in just that article, but decades of articles, Miyamoto’s own words in interviews, and the physical evidence: Nintendo’s actual output. It’s pretty clear that putting him in an executive position leans heavily on Nintendo’s software output to mainly promote things he’s interested in - because he thought of them. He’s literally said he didn’t like F-Zero GX because he didn’t make it himself. So no F-Zero game in 18 years? Metroid, my favourite Nintendo franchise, gets much less development love than it should. Great they made Metroid Dread after what, 18 years? You’d think Nintendo would have the money to acquire Eternal Darkness and do more there, or work in more diverse genres. Excite Truck could have been Nintendo’s answer to Burnout but they gave up on it.
Imagine how stunted PlayStation’s first party output would be if they put a development star of the 80s in charge and he quietly smothered IPs he didn’t make himself.

Or alternatively with limited resources they focus on what sells the most. Nintendo board meeting: “Shall we make Excite Truck 3 or Mario Kart?” Board Members : Laughs Aubergine: “That cunt Miyamoto has done it again!”

TBH I loved Excite Truck as well and Metroid is (along with Zelda and Mario 3D platforms) my fave Nintendo series too. I think Nintendo have suffered a bit from Miyamoto and for some time the "need a new gimmick to make a new game in the series" mentality but think Aubergine has went a bit OTT on Miyamoto.

I think people are forgetting that Nintendo had ten billion in cash during the Wii years and could have developed a diverse stable of IP to give their platform something to satisfy all, and maintain goodwill. But despite being the most profitable of the three console makers, they went with Mario-Zelda-Mario and an avalanche of third party shovelware.
I just don’t think they have a dedication to building an adequate library of games on their platforms, and haven’t since the GameCube / DS.

Mate, they now have 16 billion, have the biggest selling platform in the world and are making shitloads. I suspect that they're quite pleased with that. Considering this year they're releasing Xenoblade, Platoon, Mario Strikers, Kirby and whatever else, Mario-Zelda-Mario is a bit of an exaggeration. Don't get me wrong, I want nothing more in gaming than Metroid Prime 4 to be half as amazing as Metroid Prime and more variety but pandemic and chip shortages have messed up loads of stuff.

Struggling to think of a developer with as diverse a range of IP as Nintendo to be honest. Maybe sega, once upon a time
