I'm trying to talk myself out of an Oculus Quest 2 after being unimpressed by PSVRs blurriness. Is it a good step up? I don't have a PC with the grunt for VR

Not a step up graphically but the image quality is sharper, the controllers are miles better as well.

I don't have a PC with the grunt for VR www.roadtovr.com/best-vr-headsets-in-2020-buying-guide/This seems about right. It will be a novelty for a while still, maybe always, but I like the novelty or the potential (and I guess you do too to be considering a 2nd HMD).

Resident Evil: Village in VR with motion controls with the new praydog mod which is out now. Though for RE8 and RE7 it’s in it’s early stages. *Generic 6DOF VR support to RE7, RE2, RE3, RE8, DMC5, and MHRISE *For RE2 and RE3 they have full motion controls in RE2 and RE3 (when using FirstPerson, it is not enabled by default) *Physical knife damage in RE2/RE3 *Physical grenade throwing in RE2/RE3 You can get it now: github.com/praydog/REFramework/No motion controls for RE7 yet (but they are coming) uses gamepad or mouse/keyboard. But it looks fecking amazing!!!!

I've had PSVR since launch and despite loving it initially, the faff of getting it set up, the wires and the poor tracking saw it confined to the loft for the last year or more.
Took a punt on the Quest 2 for my son this Xmas and I have to say I'm very impressed.
Graphically, the native games are not a huge leap forward, but it is much sharper and richer with text in particular far easier to read. The lack of wires and consistency of the tracking is the real game-changer though. In the hours of use we've had, I haven't once had an issue with the hand tracking. It used to drive me insane on the PSVR.
Of the few games we've bought, Walkabout Golf and Resi 4 are the clear standouts.
Plugged in to the PC however, and I am genuinely blown away. Half Life Alyx is so spectacular, it threatens to ruin every other VR experience. Keen to try Lone Echo 2, Asgard's Wrath and Boneworks.

Try Stormland too, if you can run it - that and Asgard are definitely the heaviest VR games I've tried.

When I played it, it was particularly hard on CPU - I had a 7700K and it really struggled. It's got some great control ideas though.

Yeah, that’s definitely got better single core performance and another two cores which I think made the real difference.

New controllers with haptic feedback could be amazing and no more external camera tracking should eliminate most of the jitters. However, it's still a cabled headset (albeit just a single cable rather than the boxed mess of the v1) and after the Quest 2, I'm not sure I want to buy a premium headset where I'm tethered to the console. The price point will be critical IMO. Anywhere north of £300 is going to be a tough sell.

A single cable (hopefully a fairly thin one as it's just USB-C) is a world away from the cable spaghetti and fan-equipped breakout box of the original PSVR. Combined with a hopefully solid inside-out tracking system obviating the need for an external camera it should be a significant improvement. My only concern now is backwards compatibility - they need to have a compatibility layer for existing stuff. I'd pay for a new headset to play Blood and Truth properly.

Took a punt on the Quest 2 for my son this Xmas and I have to say I'm very impressed. Same. We don't have a PC so just been using it for the native games. His (and my) first VR experience however and I actually feel a bit of a simpleton with how blown away I am by it. He had me playing some shooting thing where I had to manually load guns, take them from their holster, move around this city shooting twats and it was astounding. God knows what i looked like whilst I was playing but I could hear him laughing his head off. He's got some climbing thing now and I had a session last night climbing up the outside of a skyscraper. It's one of these things were I now start to see what the fuss is about with VR, so I'm quite interested in the new PSVR news. If it looks decent I can definitely see myself picking it up.
Re: the hand tracking. Is that what the quest 2 does? Use the headset to track the hand controllers? I have no idea how any of this shit works beyond some kind of space magic.

Resident Evil 4 is astonishing, I would heartily recommend giving it a go if you're not too overwhelmed by creepy shooters. We're also loving Walkabout MiniGolf which is IMO the perfect introduction to VR for newbies. The courses are brilliantly designed and it just feels right.

The casting to a chromecast works great on the Quest 2, had my mate set his up here and gave it a go. I'm just waiting on the non Facebook option to log in before I pick one up.
Searching for demo in the store also had a few results, try Gorn.

That PSVR2 looks pretty good to me! The cable isn't that big a deal - I use my Quest 2 wired quite a bit, and it's a slight annoyance but usually worth it for the massive uptick in performance and visual fidelity. Foveated rendering should reduce the rendering burden further, so with a bit of luck we'll see some really tasty stuff come out for it. Might even be enough to make me seek out a PS5 in anticipation. Maybe. Ish.

Replaced the strap on my quest 2 for a Kiwi halo one and it so much better. Takes most of the weight off of your face and makes it much more comfortable.

Yeah the headset tracks everything! I also have the oculus rift, and boy is the quest (2) a leap forward. It can actually also track your hands on their own - no controllers! Only tried once and it took me a bit of practice to start to get it consistent. Didn't seem that many games/apps used it.

It's a bit on the costly side Wunty but its worth it, especially for the lad I would say. Where you are taking turns its easier to secure as there is a dial on the back that tightens it.

Quest 2 is still getting a good amount of use. I thought I'd eventually get tired of it but there really is a lot of good content out there.
My current obsession is Virtuoso which is a VR mixing studio. Have spent a few hours now banging on drums and synths, creating loops with them and it is phenomenal. Its in the apps lab section.

So the boys left controller seems knackered anyway. The thumb stick won't spring back to centre so it's unusable. Not sure if I need to contact the retailer or the manufacturer direct...

Cool I contacted Curry's who are arranging the whole thing to be picked up tomorrow. The boy will have to do without meeting his mates on Gorilla Tag for a week!
He didn't even notice the thumbstick was fucked. It's only because I asked for a shot of Onward and I wondered why I didn't stop moving. I'm glad I asked or it could have gone on for ages unchecked.

Quake 3 in VR is here, from the guys who brought us Doom3Quest and Quake2Quset etc and its all kinds of awesomeness, if you have a Quest 1/2 make sure you grab this and install it. Its in 'open beta' right but but its getting better and better with each release, it also features multiplayer for all the default maps with work in place for mods and such - RA3 anyone? one day maybe You can grab it from the Team Beef - Discord, make sure you get the HD paks as well to make it look nicer than before to play the full game you must own it as you need the game files. It's like 1999 all over again!!!
