I found a perfectly good streaming site that I can watch via the web brower on my telly.

No sensible person is paying full price for Sky Sports.

I look every year, as a non-Sky customer who gets everything streamed it's always a pisstake. I'd absolutely like to pay my way to see the races, and quali, and the practice sessions, as I love the buildup... but a tenner for a "day pass" via the wanky shitheap of a Now TV service? No.

If you pay full price for any Sky service you are overpaying and need to threaten to leave. They are the most haggle friendly company around. 50% off or better is sometimes doable with 40% off the worst I've managed.
I'm not going to pretend it's brilliant value even at that level but if you're a tragic motorsport nerd, it's not that bad. You get the four best single seaters championships on Sky F1, plus Le Mans and FE on Eurosport. 4K HDR is awesome too.
That said it really annoys me that we don't get as many live camera angles on Sky as the official F1 service in Europe. The Sky sub should really come with a complementary login for that service in my opinion.

You have to join in the first place though, to pull off the end-of-contract "I'm leaving".
I've never had them.

Sure but you call up and say you'd like to join but your partner (who may or may not exist) will only let you pay x. Then reject their first offer, and get them to lower it again, then say you need to discuss with your partner and hang up. Next try their online Chat instead and see if they'll best the offer made on the phone. If they can't offer the monthly price you want (which I believe is true, there is a floor) say you would accept up front credit to the equivalent value. The trick is to try and get through to someone with slightly more freedom to apply offers than the front line call centre people. If you can't be bothered with that palava there are still friend referral links and cashback offers from Topcashback and Quidco.

Also the issue with NOWTV is the quality is abysmal or at least it has been when I've had it for the football..

After watching sports on BT it really shows just how shit Sky is. Just look at the options you get watching MotoGP, they put sky to utter shame.
A bar down the bottom with icons for highlight. Click on the overtake button to be taken to overtakes during the race. (Also start, finish, crashes etc.) A choice of cameras you can jump between. You can pause, rewind etc You can get updates, with option to include or exclude spoilers
Same with football etc.

That was unusual. Alex Albon was live commentating on Sky at the moment his car with Latifi in it spectacularly caught fire and caused a red flag! Handled it pretty well.

Looking to the list of drivers on the left of the screen and not seeing 'RAI' up there is making me a little bit sad.
However there is a 'SAI' up there, so I'd like to announce I'm on the Ferrari hype train as a Carlos Sainz fan now.

I don’t think that these wheel hubs are what the FIA had in mind aesthetic wise when bringing in the larger wheels.

This testing makes you realise how unreal the 2021 cars were. These cars clearly showing themselves as the 1st gen iterations. Either that or the fancy aeros have been left off for now.

Loads of ads on the radio from Sky F1. £18 a month... Isn't that a bit shocking? Or do people shell out that no problem? It's not just F1 though, all sport. Which is pretty good tbh.

My team are too low down the pyramid to make their football coverage, I don't care about rugby/basketball/NFL etc. and they don't have the rights to the NHL. Besides a couple of months of short form cricket in the summer Sky Sports doesn't show anything other than F1 I want to watch.
I'll probably try and subscribe to F1TV via VPN.

I fear for drivers of any teams that haven't sorted out the porpoising mostly by next weekend. That simply can't do your spine any good at all, especially for 90 minutes straight at full tilt in a race.

From the GPS data the Race shared, it's clear that Merc have their engine right down, but the car just looks terrible to drive. Lots of porpoising, twitchy in the low speed and understeer in the medium speeds. Long long way to go, so I'm not certainly writing them off or anything but it just looks plain bad on all the onboards.

Best waiting until after Q3 next weekend to make any assumptions. We've had about 7 years of 'Merc looks like a dog in the corners' and 'X team is definitely well ahead' in testing only for them to be right up there from the off and I'd be shocked if things were any different this time around.
I'd wager the more likely explanation is that they are running their philosophy to the extreme in order to gather data to work out how they are going to seal that downforce in. Feels like a hail mary project from them but their track record suggests they are on to something.

Although it would totally be on point for George Russell's career to date if he steps into the best team the minute they decide to build a shitbox.

Well brundle thought the merc looked best in the slow corners track side. As always nothing to really take from testing other than the amount of laps completed. Most teams got some decent runs in which should be good for the season. If I had to guess ferrari/merc/redbull gonna be trading blows all season.

I'll tell you who's car did look like an absolute piece of shit to drive though; Alpine.
Loads of bluster over the winter that they'd pulled off something special with both their car and engine for this year, and then you see Alonso understeering and oversteering in literally the same corner at times.
Alonso must be forgetting El Plan and thinking about El Retirement Plan at some point.

Watching the Netflix show at the mo and seeing Mazepin getting antsy about his car etc. I wondered (as it's not really been shown as far as I can recall) if drivers get to have solo track time with their cars in between races? Seems like an obvious way to get a better feel for the car, however good or bad it may be.

No that would count as "testing" and not allowed. Can do sim work etc though.

Poor advert then as made it sound like just F1 was 18 quid. Sky's football coverage is trash mostly. Got it for the season in a deal for a tenner, and they hardly have anything.

the-race.com/formula-1/mark-hughes-red-bull-usurps-ferrari-as-mercedes-trails/Hope this is wrong. I'll admit I'm very much Team 'Anyone But Red Bull' (TABRB) after their behaviour last year. Literally any one of the other 9 teams to win next weekend would be fantastic. Really wish Adrian Newey would turn away from the dark side and go back to Williams or something. He's just too damn talented. It was probably good for F1 that he had to work with crap engines for most of the hybrid era.
