On the plus side it was nice to get a sneak peek at their 2023 car today.

Weird sidepods seem to be a theme - Mercedes have been at theirs with a panel beater:

Mercedes just casually like "fuck what you guys say, we're still having bargeboards on our car".

If the championship were based on looks alone the Ferrari would walk it. That said the Mercedes looks stupidly fast and I easily see them being 2 seconds/lap quicker for the first few races. Could be wrong but that car just looks rapid

It's finally happened but I think I'm over abu dhabi.......just.
Seeing Lewis conduct himself brilliantly post race and during the car reveal. Made me realise if the man himself can rise above it so can I hahaha.
I know this sounds ridiculous but that race really killed a bit of my love for f1. Not even a Lewis thing. I would have been equally as pissed if the roles were reversed.

In the before times I would have said "get over it" (you have)
But a similar thing has happened to me with VAR in football.
I was mad for football, now, can barely be bothered to watch games for the pure stupidity that inevitably occurs.
So in summation, you do you, looks like its set up for a whacky season, plenty of indignation for all.

I think every team has done a great job and released a new livery that has looked better than the old thus far. My money is on Alpine to cock it up given they've got to combine Alpine blue with BWT pink.

They are apparently using a full pink getup for the first 2 races of the season which looks dreadful.

Well it's not a disaster but it's not great, and that's the better of the Alpine liveries they revealed today.
On the subject of getting over Abu Dhabi. I can move on, provided that we aren't gaslighted by the FIA. As Hamilton said, it should never happen to another driver again, and that has to be the goal for the sport. Any suggestion that it was acceptable from an integrity standpoint has to be challenged, every time.
I also think Red Bull have a big part to play here as magnanimous winners. If they continually bring up the WDC, insist everything was fair, and protest too much, then the sport can't move on either. It's harsh but in the same way Merc withdrew their appeal for the good of the sport Red Bull need to have a bit if humility.
There needs to be mutual agreement from all parties to not comment about 2021 until we've got much more distance and I'm just not sure that's realistic.
Part of me would still love to see a team (pref Mercedes) exploit the FIAs hasty new definition of 'any' (it is now apparently to be read as 'at least one' rather than 'all') to get a massive advantage. Would show how farcical and short sighted that defence was.

Ye Gods, that Alpine is the worst looking car of the lot. Kinda reminds me of when twitter blows up to say the latest Nigeria football strip is HOT! Honestly, it happens every world cup. To me it always looks like they shut a bunch of 5 year olds in a room with a bunch of crayons and picked the best result. PS I WILL derail this thread with football crap

Last year's livery was probably the best I've seen since that blue Toro Rosso, so it makes it even worse that they've vomited that pink eyesore of a sponsor over the car. Awful.

Well, I think I like it. It has that shiny metallic, over-the-top Hot Wheels look to it.

I wouldn't expect it to have quite that sheen to it out on track. See also: Aston Martin.
I get BAR zipper vibes from the BWT bits. It just looks so out of place effectively pasted over last year's livery on the main sponsor zones.

I think it looks alright too. Got a lot of bias towards Mclaren's car though. Orange is the best colour. Their new pattern isn't as good as last year's though.

McLaren's best was the one with the triangles a few years ago IMO.
I do like the new shade of blue though. Hopefully it isn't too washed out in daylight.

Something I'm not clear on is how much freedom the teams have to work on the floor on the car this year? Given ground effects are back, it seems likely that the floor of the car will have as big, if not more impact that the traditional aero surfaces.
Whilst entertaining, I wonder just how important all the more eye catching stuff.

I also think the FIA have to be super hot on stamping out anything unintended that massively disturbs the wake.
If cars can't follow closely the rules reset is pointless so for once I'd actually be ok with them 'clarifying' any problematic loopholes nice and early. For fairness it has to be done early so teams have a chance to respond before the first race.

I think they have a fair bit of scope on the undercarriage/tea tray areas but bargeboards as we knew them to my understanding are no more. It looks like Merc and Red Bull in particular have gone with philosophies that try to claw some of that loss back, wheras guys like Ferrari have used the sidepod structure itself to try and create downforce laterally over the top of them.
So many different ideas. I'd be seriously impressed if there wasn't a gigantic field spread this year.

Along with being able to follow more closely, I’m hoping that these changes will have increased the breaking distances to promote more opportunities for making a pass.

My understanding is slow corners will be slower and fast will be faster. Therefore I think it'll be pretty track specific but the potential is there.
I massively agree that elongated braking zones are needed. I don't really understand why they don't mandate steel brakes? Maybe safety, but it works in Indy Car.

Times are completely pointless in testing, especially the first one. But Red Bull, Ferrari and Mercedes are putting in a decent amount of laps which is always encouraging early on. Would be good if at the very least Leclerc and Sainz are able to put the cat amongst the pigeons this year.

Given all the variation, I'd love to see another team (or two) fighting for race wins.

I'd love Ferrari and McLaren to be strong this year. There's some serious driving talent in those two teams. Would love a title fight featuring a couple of them.

Having heard Horner's comments about Masi yesterday, I don't think he's going to let us move on. Wishful thinking, but I'd love Red Bull to be irrelevant this year, I'm just so bored of listening to his bullshit.
