The fix was booting into safe mode and deleting a file from c:\windows\system32\drivers

Why is it still called an Information Technology department, seems pretty dated. Like referring to the World Wide Web still

Our physical hosts were all affected but easily rectified via their iDrac. Only a handful of VMs needed manual intervention. Everything fixed in 2 business hours. Another hour or so for mopping up shitty scripts that didn’t run this morning. Storm in a tea cup really. Hardly the global disaster the BBC are making it out to be. Guess it sucks if you’re sat in the cattle market section airport right now though You should probably tell that to people trying to run small businesses, getting health appointments, hospital checkups etc. "It's just a storm in a teacup guys!"

Hardly the global disaster the BBC are making it out to be. Well, it's not a civilisation-ending catastrophe, but it does have a global scale and it is a financial disaster for some companies. Over 1400 flights have been canceled so far, and there are lots of problems with payment terminals everywhere.
It's certainly the biggest IT blunder since a very long time.

Yeah well I went down there the first day it opened right, and I did a couple of laps, I pulled over, the bloke that runs the thing comes over and said - Oi no professionals. I took my helmet off, I said I'm not a professional. He said - you're not a profesional? I said - No, he said - well you should be, if I was you I'd take up Formula One, and if you drive like that you'd probably be the best in the country! I said - I'm not interested I'm making shit loads out of computers.

Wonder how long this lasts. Somebody managed to slip Lady Gaga in there too but that’s just been revised

Show me a year when the school holidays don’t result in airport delays. This is literally my day job, But yeah fuck it what do I know.

That would be nice if it was more than airports affected. It’s just that big queues and stranded passengers make for more photo opportunities for news stories than people in their homes being told their surgeries are cancelled.

It's being called the largest IT outage in history. Bully for you that you got it sorted quickly, but it hasn't been such a positive experience elsewhere.

DadFE's workplace wasn't even affected from what he told me when I asked, but you won't see me calling it a nothingburger when it's disrupted so many things worldwide

No issues here in government!!!! Because you’re still on Windows 7? Windows 10 enterprise. Assume we just don't use crowdstrike? We have a different security setup.

It's being called the largest IT outage in history. Bully for you that you got it sorted quickly, but it hasn't been such a positive experience elsewhere. The 2017 S3 Outage was pretty huge, but also it was easier to fix as it was more centralised. So I think it didn't even last this long.

It's almost like there are different layers of complexity to these things and what is an easy fix for some people becomes a bigger and different issue for others.
