Yeah, don't associate the Strokes with those other bedwetters.

I wouldn't say I don't like them, as it did grow on me a lot and I recognise it's pretty good but I remember being initially disappointed by Bomb the Bass's clear as nothing else on the record sounded like Bug Powder Dust.
Tim Booth and Angelo Badalamenti had a project called Booth and the Bad Angel. The track Dance of the Bad Angels is an amazing song. The rest of the album I can't recall.
Perry Farrell did an album called Song Yet To Be Sung. The title track is pretty great, rest of the album is meh and never listened to anything else he did solo.
Yellow did a track that featured in the English dub of Space Adventure Cobra. It's a great song, but can't say I really care about much else.
The last three tracks I mentioned have similar vibes, thinking about it.

Bongo, I’ve seen a theory that The Bends and in particular ‘Fake Plastic Trees’ and ‘High and Dry’ essentially provided the template and permission for that genre of Keane and Snow Patrol and shite. It’s Radiohead’s fault. I call it ‘Cold Feet Core’ because the lot of it was made to soundtrack trailers to shows like that, Gavin and Stacey and High Grant rom coms. I think Travis hold more way responsibility here. The Man Who birthed the genre, or whatever you want to call it.

I never, ever got the love for Coldplay... but while everyone was gushing over Yellow (an absolute wet wipe of a song) I have to admit I thought Don't Panic was a fairly well put together song. The only one of theirs I'll admit to liking.

There are quite a few old school rap / hip hop songs that I like but never really got into the artist or genre in general... songs like The Message, Rappers Delight, Can I Kick it, Express Yourself. Other than that, if I like a song I generally end up getting into and liking the artist.

Whilst a lot of the landfill indie bands are forgettable, I occasionally find myself quite enjoying the odd tune on the radio. But these 2 put my teeth on edge.

I’m very much enjoying catching up in this thread. For what it’s worth, I liked the Stereophonics’ first two albums a lot. They did go a bit shit after that though.
Some (possibly?) controversial ones:
Mardy Bum - Arctic Monkeys - I can’t bear Alex Turner’s voice and smug smartarse lyrics, and musically they doing little that’s innovative or exciting, but this is a good song.
Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana - great song with plenty of energy and angst, but I’ve tried a few times to get into the rest of their music and just found it boring. See also: Manic Street Preachers, although I can’t actually think of one song of theirs I do rate.
Reptilia - The Strokes - I generally can’t stand Casablancas’ voice - he sings out of tune - but this is one Strokes song I’ll give respect to.
Take Me Out - Franz Ferdinand - But only the first 30 seconds! - cracking intro that then turns shite for the rest of the song. I can’t get into any of their other stuff.
I’ll run away and hide now.

For every good 'The' band that suddenly became massive in the early '00s (Strokes, Hives, White Stripes), there seemed to be a dozen or so turgid ones. I assume that's the period to which Nick is referring. killerbee 'Take Me Out' is a great example of a song I like by a band I don't - thank you for reminding me of it. (I think you're nuts for referencing Nirvana, but you do you )

I found this post both shocking and disturbing. Come As You Are? Lithium? In Bloom? Heart-Shaped Box? About a Girl? Sliver? The entire Unplugged set? None of those songs do anything for you? I can understand not liking Alex Turner, but I'd have chosen Crying Lightning, Teddy Picker, When The Sun Goes Down, R U Mine, or Do I Wanna Know over Mardy Bum. They're all easily better songs. I know I know, each to their own. Anyway, if you don't like Alex Turner, here's a little treat.

One of the many, many things my wife threatens to divorce me over is that every time we see a massive flock of birds, I start singing 'living for the weekend'

Going back a bit further than the nu-metal and 'The' band overload of 2000-2002, a few Britpop (and Britpop-adjacent) songs spring to mind:
'The Universal' by Blur 'Champagne Supernova' by Oasis 'What Do I Do Now?' by Sleeper 'Richard III' by Supergrass 'Goldfinger' by Ash

Richard III is a good shout. I wouldn't say I hate their other songs but none of them really grab my attention.

The problem with googling 'Bands starting with 'The'' is that a lot of them are actually quite shit.
