There are a whole bunch of nu-metal bangers that I was “too old” for at the time but now the slap of nostalgia probably puts them above a lot of stuff I actually was listening to back then.

I don’t like the Stereophonics at all but Local Boy in the Photograph and Dakota are great songs I read somewhere that the ‘proper’ Stereophonics fans don’t rate Dakota at all though and it’s one of their worst I always saw Performance and Cocktails as their pinnacle (Bartender and the Thief, Just Looking) but looking at Spotify it's all the dross released after that that seems popular.

Torn is a great song though. [edit] ninja'd![/edit] I kinda like Last Resort by Papa Roach, but I think that's mainly due to playing way too much Tony Hawk back in the day. I thought Blood Brothers was the Papa Roach song on Tony Hawk? Goes and checks... You are correct, and that's the one I meant. Though I usually ended up bailing and restarting before I got past the intro My youtube recommendations are now gonna be full of Papa Roach..

I hated all dance music except for The Prodigy as a kid/teen. If it didn’t have a guitar it was chav/town centre shit nightclub fodder for me.
But now any of that stuff from the time comes on the radio and I LOVE it. The whole period from early nineties house through trance through to probably garage. Yep even Sweet Like Chocolate. In hindsight it was a brilliant period for pop music via the medium of these types of genre.
I have a regular couple of regular drives in the week and actually love listening to the likes of Jo Whiley and Sara Cox (never thought I would say the latter) because they play all these bangers on Radio 2. Radio 2 has now become the nostalgia section for my age group

I don't really like The Streets, but I love Blinded By The Lights.

I absolutely hate that eras bed wetting indie shite. Stereophonics, Keane, Embrace, Travis... the kind of songs that I genuinely can't imagine how they get written. Like you'd run out of energy and fall into a coma half way through writing 'come back to what you know'. Also: Ive mentioned this before but I went to a battle of the bands in the early 2000 and every single band played 'Bartender and the Thief'. By the fifth one, the audience were laughing and I actually felt bad for them

I’m not a fan of the band at all (who is?) but Get Off by The Dandy Warhols is genuine one of my favourite songs ever. It’s got a good beat you can dance to. Me! I saw Primal Scream on the XTRMNTR tour at Brixton Academy. Scored an after party pass from someone that was leaving and got talking to Pete the lead guitarist and Zia, the bassist. They were playing the Wedgewood Rooms in Portsmouth the next night and gave me and my friend comp entry. Good times

Bongo, I’ve seen a theory that The Bends and in particular ‘Fake Plastic Trees’ and ‘High and Dry’ essentially provided the template and permission for that genre of Keane and Snow Patrol and shite.
It’s Radiohead’s fault.
I call it ‘Cold Feet Core’ because the lot of it was made to soundtrack trailers to shows like that, Gavin and Stacey and High Grant rom coms.

That said, and on topic, there’s no love whatsoever for it here but…
That one big hit from Keane was objectively a nice pop ballad with good singing.

It's like blaming Rage for all the rap-rock shit that started to clog up the airwaves a decade later. They weren't to know!

Shit. I had an album by The Feeling, and I can't remember why. Wasn't one of the songs in a tv show or advert or something?

Supergrass - Caught by the Fuzz
An absolute masterpiece from a band I could never get into (despite trying). As others have said in the past, this is exactly what being a teenager sounds like.
The Horrors - Sea Within a Sea
Who would've thought these poseurs had a song like this in them?

Not really - only works if you're applying it to the landfill indie we suffered through in the 00s.

Can't say I've ever been a Linkin Park fan, but this one is quite touching, especially after what happened to Chester. Everything else they do is just noise. I quite like this and Shadow of the day by them

Writing off an entire decade of music seems a bit harsh. (Especially as it was my decade )

Hey I'm not knocking the rest of the amazing music during the 00s - that was my decade too and is still the music I listen to mostly!
No denying there was a guitar band explosion though and a lot of dreck came through.

‘The’ band warning: youtu.be/xGkSl-rATfo?si=0eqXE-AwLvv2MqC8I’ve always had an inkling there might be more good stuff from these but at the time I associated it with the horrid indie disco I got dragged to at uni that was full of The Strokes and Coral and stuff. Had a bit of the Muse Factor as well though - all the loudness, all the shrill treble, all the reverb. It can be a bit much and a fatiguing listen. But this was a memorable song/jam.

The Strokes were a great rock band - their first two albums are packed full of great songs, particularly their debut. Fell off a bit of a cliff after that.
