I’ve actually waded in on the comments section as I’m having the slowest work day ever. Can’t believe it’s taken off like this for a distinctly average looking game. If this was a Spider-Man review I wouldn’t be so surprised, but it’s Star Wars. A Ubisoft game. Who’s even takling about the EA Star Wars games anymore? Who’s still talking about Ubisoft’s Avatar game? These games aren’t destined to be remembered in a few years and certainly weren’t designed to be more than slightly above average.

I guess the Star Wars brand still does some heavy lifting.

I think Tapsell's one of the best reviewers EG has, and up there with the best game reviewers period - even when I disagree with his overall assessment of a game (e.g. Ghost of Tsushima), I appreciate the way in which he approaches his analysis.

No, I enjoyed Spider-Man a lot. No comment on the score, just one that I actually have played that he didn’t score low Whatever he wants to score them is fine, I just wanted some comparison so that I could relate. I was surprised that he scored this lower than JL though. Tapsell's comment: "I am typically a bit prickly about comparing stars across games but I reviewed both and I would say fairly comfortably that I enjoyed Suicide Squad more than this. For all its flaws, that game has movement and combat that feel wonderfully fluid and cathartic when you thread them together. Without wanting to sound mean, unfortunately I don't think there's a single thing I actually enjoyed the physical act of doing in Outlaws" That comment makes it sound like 2/5 is way too generous. Me, I can't stand open worlders lately, and especially if the basic systems aren't fun to play. So I'll be giving this a hard pass, I guess.

I don't think that's entirely fair. I think the Respawn Jedi are remembered fondly, and the 3rd is expected to deliver by virtue of the first two pulling it off. Ubi, despite yearly re-use and over-saturation, make some really good core experiences. The Division, Far Cry, Assassin's Creed, Ghost Recon - all utilise the same basic framework and all have more than one fondly remembered, fundamentally very good title within the respective franchises. Phoenix Rising was also very cool. No reason to think that they couldn't do the same thing with the Star Wars license. Spider-man is only a stone's throw away from any of these, design-wise. It's just executed better. Ultimately, it's only one or two reviews that we're talking about. The majority of them have received the game a bit better, but it's a shame that it's not overall better than it has turned out. I certainly won't be paying for early access to it, but I'll definitely play it (but I do mostly enjoy the Ubi formula, every now and again, as quite a relaxing way to just sit back and lose myself for a bit).

I'm in the queue for Rise of the Resistance at Disney World as I type this, so I'm in full blown Star Wars boner mode as we speak.
I've been a sucker for Star Wars games since Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II (one of the greatest games ever), so whilst I'd have liked to have seen this better received, overall the reviews are decent enough for me to still want to check it out.

Seems like it's settling on 70%, so it's gone from day 1 to something I'll get further down the line, might be a fun Christmas game to while away the dark winter hours.
Still on my radar, just don't have to send the x-wings out to intercept right away 😅

I've been watching a 'Let's Play' series for Fallen Order, and it does look like a very good game (even though having Cal-etus the Slack-Jawed Jedi as a protagonist was a weird design decision).
Squadrons also went down pretty well, if memory serves.

Derblington Yeah, perhaps I was being a bit dramatic. I’m just amazed folk are still getting upset about a critical opinion of a game they’ve not yet played. That and the idea that some folk believe in some kind of ‘correct’ hive-mind opinion of art is particularly bewildering.

I just watched the IGN review. 7/10, obviously, but it looks really shot and the reviewer couldn’t have been less enthusiastic about it

At the very least I've really enjoyed the comments in the EG review of this. It's amazing how people really get bothered by a review.

Someone let me know when the Epic exclusive deal ends and it comes to Steam in a few years, if ever, in a complete edition form, and goes in a sale.

The logistics of keeping the thing running must be insane, it's "temporarily closed" quite often as a result. Smuggler's Run was good fun also. Less fun when you let your youngest pilot the Millennium Falcon mind you, had a headache after that ride!

Annoyingly I didn't remember about moving to New Zealand until about 10pm so I've only played through the prologue. It seems OK so far. I'm not digging Jan Solo so far. Nothing against playing a female protagonist - I'm on team Kassandra and FemShep, but a choice would have been nice.

I watched this review last night, and it left me feeling optimistic about it. It's a 7/10 but the reviewer seemed to really buy in to the whole Star Wars scoundrel vibes and got a lot more from it.

ACG gave it a "Wait for sale" which is was how I reviewed it before people got their hands on it.
Are UBI much longer for this world, feel ripe for takeover, used to be I was ravenous for a UBI game, now it's a big yawn.

Aye, I keep saying I'll sub to U+ for a month or two to play some of the games I've missed, then realise I just can't be arsed. Have a feeling this will get added to the pile.
Makes more sense to just buy the recent PoP outright, as that seems to be the only interesting thing they've done in years.

Smuggler's Run was good fun also. Less fun when you let your youngest pilot the Millennium Falcon mind you, had a headache after that ride! That one nearly made me hurl into a galaxy far, far away. I hate those motion simulators, they make me feel sick to my stomach. It’s why I was so pleased RotR is mostly practical.

Smuggler's Run is good fun. It is basically the most epic arcade game you will play (albeit with fairly limited controls). Best bit though was being the pilot on the side with the hyperspace lever (on the right, I believe). Being the one to punch the group into hyperspace was incredible.
Nothing on Rise of the Resistance though. Absolutely phenomenal ride. So many different parts combining to really put you in the middle of a Star Wars experience.
Star Tours was pretty good fun too, even though it is just a motion simulator. I only rode it once, but I believe they have a bunch of different sections that can be played, so it will be quite different each time you go on.
