"Remember when Team Asobi was hiring for its "most ambitious game yet'? Well, that game is Astro Bot, and it looks fantastic. The game will see Astro Bot, of PS5 pack-in game Astro's Playroom, embarking upon a big platforming adventure, which looks like it'll cement the character's place as PlayStation's de facto mascot.
Billed as a “super-sized space adventure”, Astro Bot will take you through more than 80 levels spread across six galaxies, as you try to locate Astro's scattered crew. Using your DualSense-shaped Dual Speeder ship, you'll descend to each planet, before exploring forests, beaches, volcanoes, and other locations.
Astro will have fifteen new abilities at his disposal, all with DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive trigger gubbins, including Barkster the Bulldog Booster, Twin-Frog Gloves, and a Giant Sponge that sucks up water from your environment. Astro will also face over 70 enemy types, which take in massive bosses, as seen in the trailer below.
As with Astro's Playroom, you can expect cameos from PlayStation icons in Astro Bot form, like Kratos et al., who, according to Team Asobi, will have a part to play in the story. Astro Bot will be coming to PS5 on 6th September, with pre-orders due to go live from 7th June."
I Really like the look of this, and really enjoyed Astro's Playroom. Leaning into the PS5 and PS console history is a gimmick but it was a nice way of adding its own flavour to the platformer, and it's nice that they've continued that here.
I'd still really like a VR2 version of Rescue Mission though. I own it on VR1 but never played it, and no longer have the means to do so.

Looks and sounds incredible. Absolutely love both previous AB games and my kids were elated to hear there's a full fat game, and that it's out so soon.
Graphics look amazing on the non-stream version of the trailer too.

It warms the heart to see universal praise for this, a struggle for most game announcements to achieve. The pack in game with the PS5 still remains some of the best usage of the Dualsense (cause it's a tech demo I guess), absolutely packed with charm and was fun to play. Will be a day one for me

My friend purchased a PS5 a month or so ago and as of yet hasn't played the pre installed game. I've told him he must, it was excellent so I'm looking forward to this.

Glad of a full game of AB but I'm a bit sad there is no new VR2 version. I don't have a headset yet but it was an absolute joy in VR1.

I really can't see how this won't be my GotY barring it being rushed out before it's ready. Don't even have to see any more gameplay before release now. Looked everything I wanted out of a full-fat sequel.

First thing I suggest to everyone who gets a PS5 is to platinum Playroom, it's not the most difficult thing to do and doesn't take long but it's a great demo of the console and the new controller.
I really should get to finishing Rescue Mission as there's some familiar faces in the Astro Bot trailer.

The issue with VR games imo is a bit like cinema 3D films you need to implement gaming design that is specifically tailored to complement that viewing style. Until VR is down to non-headset and maybe glass wear style tech imo it is always going to struggle to get any mass market momentum…
Make a game that is open to mass market sales or make a game that is more niche market. Ideally yes both with design decision implemented from the start for both viewing formats but then your talking higher budget and higher risk if not a total success like RE:V was…
