Sounds like it’s very good, but is just completely and utterly not my type of game. It’s weird, I’ve been gaming since the dawn of time but just never understood the appeal of platformers. Not even Mario or Sonic. Everyone loves them apart from me. Enjoying your jumping. Much the same tbh. I enjoy them for a few hours and then get bored.

It does beg the question how long they have been working on this - given the Concord catastrophe.
It would be handy if it did well - whilst potential profit is way lower, so is the outlay and risk so hopefully more volume of varied experiences could be fast tracked.

Very much looking forward to this, last platform game I played was the then new Ratchet and Clank. Pre ordered at Game Collection last week when they had the 5% off pre orders and if you signed up for the newsletter you got given a 10% off code to use on a new account. Total cost £46.98

Played first level, yep it's charming as fuck. Nephews coming over later today that loved Astros Playroom, Bot Beach specifically with the big water slide in the beginning. And this level has a bigger water slide so he's gonna love it.

I’ve only had my PS5 for a month or two, but to my shame I’ve not even touched the free Astrobot game. Gonna start with that first, but I’m genuinely excited by the new one. Hope you folk are enjoying it.

Showed the trailer to my 9-year old (who loved the free Astro bot game a few years ago, but is now addicted to sea of thieves and rocket league), and he was all „meh“. I have failed.

My 7yr old absolutely adores the free Astro game. Said a couple of weeks ago that if he does 20 pages of his maths book he can have it. He is annoyingly bad a maths, he's almost there but needs to get his act together after school so I can play it tonight!

If any of you know where the Mission Room is in Astro's Playroom - the additional bit they added for Astro Bot. Go and see what's happening in it today

I'm really looking forward to this arriving today so I can get started. Handily I finished The Last of Us Part II last night (second play through) so this will arrive at the perfect time for me.

Really hope Sony release this on PC. Looks fantastic. It probably depends a bit too much on the DualSense, no? Granted, the DS is fully supported by Steam/on PCs these days, afaik, but it would be a strange requirement for a game.

No idea, never played an Astro Bot. Just looks like an actual fun game rather than swords and bonfires.

Judging by the EG review, it does use the gyro and the microphone on the controller for segments. I guess they could edit those bits out or edit them to have regular controls, but that would likely lose quite a bit of the feel of play in the game.

Yeah, we watched the trailer and the girl said ‘it’s Mario Galaxy with no personality’. She’s been raised on Nintendo so it’s understandable but she’s right and I can’t unsee it

It’s Mario with the interesting characters removed, which is fine. It’s never a problem if you copy something well.

Yeah, the Astro Bot games all do look a bit sterile. There is a sterility to the design, for sure. There isn’t a lack of personality though.

I think when you play it you can see a bit of the character but it definitely is a bit sterile compared to the mario games.
Which is fine as he is the biggest mascot character in gaming so it was never going to be easy. You won't have bosses as iconic as the mario ones either as they just don't really matter to anyone.

They should really have kept Crash as a Sony IP. As much as I love Astro Bot. Crash is better.

I have the 4 Crash games and still haven’t got to playing them.
Booted up Astro, about to finish up the first level. It’s impressive how much the controller speaker adds to the tactility of the game world. Most games don’t use it but the controller features are so well utilised in this. It’s the perfect type of game to lean into it all, but they also just seem to have found ways of using the features that just feel better than other teams manage to, including within Sony.
