Yeah, as nice as the free PS+ version is, this sounds like something I might enjoy more handheld.
Guess I could always play via Chiaki

Yeah I picked this up too from the reviews. It's great fun.
+1 to the old spectrum and c64 comparisons. I was playing it last night and smiling at the noises when you climb up a ladder.
Nice bit of platforming and metroid nostalgia for sure.
Not much clue what's going on mind, but that's par for the course

I’m really enjoying it so far. Every time I think I’m getting a bit stuck I have a eureka moment and get into somewhere new.
Some of the animals are really bloody creepy though.

Yeah, I ran away completely when I saw my first ghost. Freaky thing.

It's the bloody kangaroo that gets me. And the ostrich. They're just animals but they are HUGE and TERRIFYING.

One for handheld? (Not reading thread/articles) Yep, definitely. Was playing on telly last night and switched to Steam Deck this morning in bed... Literally instant download with that sweet 37mb install!

I might up my 8/10... I just got the slinky. What an amazing power-up. Some lovely puzzles with that. Including one dastardly one involving two pesky ferrets (?) . When I solved that puzzle though, I tipped my imaginary hat to the designer. A good one.

Oh also the game has given me a couple of cheevos for discovering certain secrets, the first one by happy accident. They have been very cool, organic little surprises. Love that feeling in a game when you've always had an ability available to you, but the game teaches you it's time to know about it now.

Why have I just bought this? I don’t even like Metroidvania games as I get lost and much prefer linear.
And, having bought it, am I playing it? no, of course not - that would be stupid. I’m sat in the garden enjoying the sun and reading a book as I’ve decided to try and relax more and start reading again.
On the backlog it goes - nearly at four digits now. Fear of missing out I guess.
Well, that and the mention of the spectrum nostalgia. I’m a sucker for that.

Just 10 minutes. You can do that while your food is cooking. Then you'll see!

I fucking love this weird little game. It’s so satisfying when you figure stuff out, and so organic to do so.

Yeah, I'm blasting through it. Really enjoyable.
I've got the four flames now... And... well.

So I’ve played 90 minutes and I’m really enjoying it with loads of spectrum memories flooding back such as the bubble jumping etc., but I’ve no idea what I’m doing.
I’ve discovered I can get pretty much anywhere by jumping and blowing a bubble at the same time so can scale great heights. Is that intentional or am I now too far ahead in the map having missed some basic power ups?

Ha. And just like that. I have.

Just did the P. flame (my last one). That was a fucking nightmare. Was chased by the ghost across a whole chunk of the map, having to get across the three dog pit riding on the disc and doing a couple of tricky jumping puzzles. Sure there must have been an easier way, but couldn't figure anything else out. Heading back to the central area now to see what's next... Edit: argh, that place is not nice! Credits rolled now, but feels like there is more to find. My house seems to have a giant clock in it (matches a timer that has appeared in the menus, which I guess is my play time, but not sure) and a spinning mystical doughnut, like out of Everything, Everywhere, All At Once. Also a door that is locked. Not sure what I should be doing with any of that though. I still have quite a lot of eggs to get (I have about 20), but not sure if that will be related. What a great game this is.

This is a very dated reference but it weirdly reminds me of a game I had on the c64 and Amiga called Exile. The setting is different obviously but there are definite similarities there. Yeah I can't place why but it really has a kind of... UK 80s computer game feel to it.

Also had credits roll this evening. And yeah, plenty still to do. 30 eggs or so yeesh. The house was cool and unexpected as was the clock and donut. I would like to know what the lore is about. My interpretation so far is that the Manticore has imprisoned most of these animals. Quite what you are as a little blob, I don't understand. It also feels like all the animals are spirits, like it's one giant tomb.

I got to a spot that I'm pretty sure I wasn't supposed to reach until later in the game (because I don't have all the utility items yet). But I accidentally found out that you can surf on the disc, and there you go. Flame B get!
(I have no idea what it does)

The sense of discovery and organic exploration is seriously well done. Every time I think I might be a bit stuck in one bit I find that I can figure it out eventually and progress a bit further in that direction. When the path ends, I head somewhere else, another bit of a puzzle, another satisfying outcome and on I go. I've been so close to being stuck a few times yet never actually been stuck. That's clever game design. Two flames down so far and not TOO far away from the other two by the looks of things. Finding eggs in all sorts of secret places as well just with some lateral thinking. I don't actually want to stop playing this right now.

I agree. It was very satisfying when I realised what to do with the Disc. Ooof.

Although I am now a little stuck. Last flame. Top left. Can’t quite get my head around what to do. More exploring needed!

Have you reached the shrine that when you stand in front of it gives you a little question mark over your head? I was perplexed by that for ages and actually was about to look up how to do it, as I didn't know if I was just missing another item. Started reading a hint and immediately knew what I had to do. If you want the minor hint that clued me: Take a note of the name of the shrine. The first letter in particular. What could that stand for? For a more specific hint: M Disc Shrine. M is for mock, the same disc you had to use to get the disc without summoning the ghost

Do you know what it crossed my mind. As this flame seems to be related to that animal.
So. Oh god. This is going to be horrible.

So I think I might be done with this. Spent a few hours traversing the map hoovering eggs. It's a slog tbh. Because you're basically searching every screen for a few suspect pixels or whatever.
Good game though. I'm just not hardcore enough.

Ha ha well I'm about to attempt it. Bloody hell that was tough. Found a way that was doable now using the animal mouths. Bit of a difficulty spike but it’s not too bad. Christ. If I can do VVVVVV then I can do this.

Good game though. I'm just not hardcore enough. Yeah, I've not ducked back in yet since having the credits, but not sure how enthused I will be to do post-game bits. It feels like there is more there and I'm intrigued to find out what it is, but getting all the eggs (which is all I can think of doing now) feels like it will be tedious. And I don't even know if the reward will be that interesting. If I only had 10 eggs or so to get then fine, but I'm not even half way there.

It would be nice if there was some item that makes a sound or something when you're close to an egg. (though maybe that already exists and I haven't found it)

Got to the credits. Loved that last section but crikey that thing was creepier than ghost cat. So... I still have a missing spot in my inventory. Something, I presume, to help with these glass blocks. I have found an upgrade to both my fireworks and my bubble wand so far, and I left it having collected my 32nd egg, which means my next session will be me going to the third egg door which will now open. I've also found a weird portal thing, a stopwatch, and a huge clock. I also stumbled in to a small living room , which was odd.
