Of course Push Square has seen fit to signal-boost that ridiculous petition, even including a link to it in their 'article':
I knew who'd crapped out that excuse for journalism before I even clicked the link.
So, we are now screaming censorship about a piece of digital cloth that was added to cover up a digital sideboop (if that's the correct term) you wouldn't even see most of the time since you view the character from behind?!? Right, gotcha!!! It's even funnier* when you consider the other outfits this game has... I mean, which is more likely? "Yeah, sure, we have a bikini, a naked skinsuit and whatever else in there, but this one we just HAD to censor for you to scream about", or that they just made a minor change to one or two outfits just because, and now those idiots are making mountains out of cleavage? At most I could see it be a Sony censorship decision (and, again, I feel like they would ask for more than just those two if that were the case), which I wouldn't support either but because it's unnecessary and arbitrary more than anything, but that's about it *groan-inducing

I know the subject has been done to death, and I was in two minds about whether to post that Push Square link in the first place - after all, in so doing, I'm only contributing to the furtherance of this preposterous discussion.
The game's out now; by all accounts, it's pretty good; and that should probably be the focus from this point onwards.
Thing is, the narrative surrounding Stellar Blade has been toxic from the get-go, and it only seems to be getting worse. Shift Up has profited enormously from the attention heaped upon Eve's hypersexualised design, but now the incels have turned around to bite the hand that feeds.
The game's director attended a launch event on Friday. Instead of being able to celebrate the culmination of all the hard work done by him and his team, he found himself being quizzed about the "CeNSorED oUTfitS" nonsense.
The Change.org petition has almost 32,000 signatures at the time of writing (and it's only going to attract more now that Push Square has sent additional traffic its way, something even IGN has thus far avoided doing).
As for Push Square itself... well, I've already beaten that drum to within an inch of its life, so I shan't say much more here. It just bums me out to see one of the most prominent PlayStation-centric sites on the internet prioritise clicks over editorial integrity.

I still don't know whether it's for me (am teetering towards yes but was somewhat ambivalent about Nier) and would love to hear some detailed thoughts on what the actual game is like as you good folk power through it.

That there's 32,000 people who sign it just bums me out. Even in global population of 8.1 billion that's too many incel weirdos for my liking.

One thing I'm very glad about is the difficulty isn't too much for me. Playing the demo I was just scrapping by boss encounters because I suck, but Story difficulty is just fine for me. Challenging enough that it's still engaging, but manageable enough that I actually have a chance against bosses.
You still have to use the skills and abilities so you can't just button bash, but you can make riskier decisions without being penalised by losing half a health bar. I'm sure people that can actually play games will enjoy Normal a lot more but I'm glad they accommodated me and my near corpse-like reaction times.

That's my plan for later today once I've finished work - I was put off not just by the general discourse but by a lot of complaints I read about the feel of the movement, action etc....and I was also, ahem, balls deep in Bakumatsu Japan and couldn't tear myself away from it. This may be a stupid question, but is the demo pretty representative of the feel, vibe, gameplay of the final game?

It's still early hours for me, but if you like action games like Devil May Cry, Star Wars Jedi (both Respawn titles) or Bayonetta, with a slight dose of Soulslike bosses and a parry/dodge system, you will be right at home with Stellar Blade. I still haven't figured all out, but your combat skill trees can tailor it to your liking and there is some exploring to do in the world, so no dull moments so far.
Edit: Regarding the demo, it is the early part of the game, along with an extra boss fight and while I did find the movement/fighting a bit weird in the demo, I either warmed up to it or they slightly improved it, so it's no longer bothering me...

Played a good few hours this morning. Beat the first big Alpha Whatsit and opened up a hub and a big new area. Also now have a ranged weapon which is helpful in certain situations.
It's actually a really good game. This isn't my genre at all usually but there's something about the gameplay that makes me feel like I'm on a level playing field. Whether it's that the animations are a few percent easier to telegraph or whatever, I can take what I've learned from the first time I encounter an enemy and put it to use against the next one in a way I simply couldn't in a Fromsoft game.

Sort of my feeling - as in, I'm fairly sure I'll enjoy it. After finishing Rise of the Ronin, when I was looking for something new, Dragon's Dogma was 10 quid cheaper so I got that. I could justify Stellar Blade now, but with DD, Fallen Order and a new run of Fallout 4 on the horizon I'd better at least give the demo a go before I decide to buy it.

FlexibleFeline I haven't played the 'final' version of the game (insofar as any version is ever truly 'final' nowadays!), but I reckon the demo will give you a good feel for what to expect. Let us know how you get on with it

Ulythium I'm not sure what the future holds for Stellar Blade, but the released version seems pretty much "feature complete", if tech reviews such as Digital Foundry's are to be trusted. Sure, some optimising or balancing is to be expected down the line, but the full game is reportedly bug-free...

JonFE Oh, sure - that wasn't a dig at Stellar Blade or anything, just an acknowledgement of the way in which patches are so prevalent nowadays. Shift Up has already mooted the possibility of tinkering with the input delay further, if enough players ask them to, and apparently they're having "internal discussions" about the possibility of changing the 'censored' outfits. Kudos aplenty to them for releasing such a technically-sound product. It's really quite an achievement, especially as this is their first foray into the console market. Bethesda could learn a thing or two

Amazingly the stuff that John had as niggles in the version he played for the Digital Foundry video were changed in the day one patch.

Whizzo Yeah, I remember DF reporting their film grain nitpick and was surprised to see a toggle option in settings when it launched. It bodes well with the support people should come to expect from this title, same as with NG+ being already available.

JonFE Have you got up to the second boss from the demo yet? I was wondering how far into the game that encounter took place.

Let us know how you get on with it I enjoyed it. I don't know if I 70 quid enjoyed it but no doubt my resolve will crumble sooner rather than later. Looks gorgeous, very familiar systems (that's a plus for a giffer like me), decent blend of combat and exploration (hopefully the latter expands post-demo / tutorial). The combat was mostly satisfying but did feel a tad..sluggish? From what I can see in other posts that's been fixed now. I've got to say I didn't love the music as much as most seem to and the loop started to grate after a while. What else? I read it was easy, and it generally was, but the end of demo boss took me a good six or seven attempts with those lightning attacks screwing me over each time. Good sense of incremental progress though each time I fought him. I like it.

As someone pointed out, mega64 did this years ago around DOA Xtreme Beach Volleyball. Sounds still accurate even after all that time

FlexibleFeline Just FYI, there's another part of the demo that unlocks after you beat that boss. It's worth checking out.

I really feel like this game would've benefited massively from a 40-50ish price tag instead of 70, though if it is as polished as people continue to say plus Sony's insistence upon the price point you can hardly fault them. I just feel like at that price point there'd be so many more people willing to take the punt and be pleasantly surprised.

Yeah, that's the part to which I'm referring. It's just
another boss fight, so nothing too crazy, but you have additional skills unlocked and it'll give you a glimpse into how the game will play when you're further along.

Though if I hadn't just bought DD I would probably have pulled the trigger straight after the demo...
