Spoilt for choice we were.

That Tazo talk reminds me I've got a Looney Tunes near complete set, with a folder in the loft.
What's the weirdest thing we all collected at school? I remember for some reason we got into trading Spice Girls photos in Primary School. I honestly don't understand how it became a thing, but we all wanted the complete set.

Did anyone else use to save up used crisp / sweet packets and send them away to get free stuff? Think my best efforts were some purple smarties wrap-around shades, a plush monster munch toy and a pretty epic Simpsons dice game. YOU MEAN LIKE THESE BAD BOYS?

Those football big head figures too but they were more my brother as he’s slightly younger than me and Euro 96 felt like their peak. I pulled my old Euro 96 era England figures out of the loft during covid to show my boy! Like you I think it was just Euro 96 that fueled that for me, though I do think they're pretty cool.
Heh. For some reason I had Des Walker in his Sheffield Wednesday kit. Not sure why.

“member-berries” sounds like it should be in the health conditions thread rather than here 😬

I became a bit of a porn dealer with my mates in high school because I once happened to look in my parent’s room when my dad nipped for a shit or a shower or something. He’d pulled out the bottom drawer of their big chest of drawers presumably to retrieve some of the porn that was under there. I raided it for years, seeing the transition from mags and VHS to DVDs to ripped DVDs. It always used to get a refresh at least once a month when he visited his mate in the flats so presumably they were trading. I knew it was only a matter of time until this beacon of light thread fell to Mordor.

I think climate change killed off Hedge Porn, it can no longer grow in current conditions.

I had a friend who was a spoilt only child so he collected nearly everything. He had 2 complete sets of the star wars tazos (and yes he got almost all of them by buying shit loads of crisps), an absolute fuck ton of star wars toys. Action Mans that ended up getting set on on fire and repainting into messed up villains. It was just a free for all at his place.
Such good times until he suddenly stopped being chubby and hooked up with all the girls I was interested in. Such betrayal when he geefed Annie, I still can't believe he did that.

Did anyone have those top-trumps style citadel miniatures cards? I think they're how I learned what Warhammer was.

Stuff like this and Top Trumps - simple, physical, collaborative stuff I think is sadly missing from kids’ lives now as they’ve grown up with devices. Top Trumps is still a thing. My kids have a couple of sets, including a Minecraft one.
The thing I'd forgotten is that the games can essentially go on forever, as you just end up trading back and forth the best cards.
We've had to implement some house rules.
I'd entirely forgotten Battle Beasts, but I definitely had some. No idea why.

I had to repatriate a load of classic childhood items/rubbish tat recently when clearing my parents' garage. Wife has bagged my USS Enterprise.
Haven't a clue what to do with stuff like Steve Austin, Bionic Man. He's a bit tatty most of the bits are missing, but I can't chuck him. I'm wary of just loading stuff in boxes for my kids to throw out when I die, but....

Hated the Reaccoons, can't put my finger on why, but couldn't stand it as a kid. Same. Absolutely detested it! Yep, watched it because of lack of options but I have memories of watching it in a friends house and always being slightly creeped out by it. It doesn't seem like the right word to describe my feelings about it but I can't think of a better one.

Racoons always felt like a kind of weird fever dream, and I'm not totally sure why. The long intro and outro? The weird character designs? The references to industrialization that went right over my young head? I think I maybe only caught a handful of episodes and missed the beginning and end so I had no real idea what was going on.
For a while I actually thought it was something I'd dreamt up.
Watching a bit of it recently it's not that much weirder than a bunch of other 80s cartoons, so I'm not sure why it felt different.

If you applied it to today's insane world it would be classed as woke. As a kid I found it boring as shit because it was primarily about moral life lessons which is quite admirable for a cartoon at the time when it was more about selling toys to young boys.

Yeah my childhood friend (3-14 years old) was like that. It was great going around his, as he'd always have the latest. One of the best things was he had a massive McDonald's playset, which was great to play with. I later found out that his mum chucked all this on credit cards, and got into massive debt, then had to sell the house when he was 18

Can anyone explain to me what Garbage Pail Kids were all about. They were all the rage at my primary school for a while, and I never really knew why. I think they were overtaken by American Football stickers, for the year or two that Channel4 started showing NFL on weekends.

They’re one of those weird blank spots that totally passed my school by so other people have great nostalgia for by I’ve got no memory of.
Admittedly my year group at primary/junior school only had 9 children in it so it didn’t take much for something to pass us by

I had a friends who was really into the Garbage Pail Kid cards. Well, cards in general, but they were one set he collected.
So by way of explanation, and apologies if this is stating the obvious, they were a parody of the Cabbage Patch Dolls that were in themselves utterly grotesque. They just tapped in to the bit of kids brains that loves gross stuff. There was a lot of toilet humour and bodily fluids on both sides of the cards.
They did actually make a low budget film for Garbage Pail Kids. My brother rented it once and all I can remember about it is that one of the characters was an aligator boy.
