The 6pm slot had some great stuff in it before it became Eggheads for about 20 years. House of Games has turned the tide slightly by being entertaining even if it is just another quiz. I'd say the Simpsons purchase came before that. R&S and Aeon Flux were the best. And regarding other shows, I certainly became a Cheers fan with an episode or two pushing Babylon 5 later and later in the schedule on a Sunday evening. No wonder I always struggled on Monday in school.

I was in for any sci-fi that was on. Buck Rogers and Battlestar Galactica, any Gerry Anderson programme. And since Knightrider and A-Team just got mentioned can we take a moment to acknowledge the Airwolf theme tune. All rise for the 80's national anthem!

Yeah, you can't really underestimate the power of a memorable theme tune. I recently picked up the blu-ray of Cyber City Oedo 808 and as soon as theme tune kicked in you just get hit by the nostalgia (although I was older when Channel 4 originally screened it).

The 80s and 90s just had better theme tunes. It's not me getting older, it's a fact.

I like that they repurposed the fanfare theme from the original BSG to be the colony’s national anthem in the reboot.
I did not like the series in between where they came to Earth and flew jet bikes around the desert highways near LA.

There’s some nerds probably still trying to recover from Isy Suttie being in the revival. Knightmare nostalgia but with Dobbie from Peep Show in it has got to be someone’s ultimate fantasy. Shut up.

In the assault course round they would penalise the younger contestant, with a time penalty, due to an age/fitness advantage. But they didn't penalise an older contestant, in say the general knowledge round. Surely they have been around longer, so should know more. Come on Gordon!

Does anyone remember a TV show called The Adventure Game? It was like a weird space precursor to Crystal Maze, mixed with the vibe of Doctor Who. I remember it being great, but I was very young at the time and it was probably awful.

Wheeled Warriors has the best theme of any cartoon of that era for me. Its close to topping even Stan Bush’s stuff on Transformers The Movie.
Although I do appreciate the amount of exposition Defenders of the Earth tried to cram in.

This failed game show shot in my local shopping centre, I was 16 and with my mates watching this live. Melinda messenger looked stunning in person. I'm sure I'm in the balcony near the stairs for part of it.

Yep, was great fun. Seemed so far ahead of the times.

Does anyone else remember Scavengers?
Mid-90s John Leslie leading a deep space salvage crew of contestants as they boarded derelict spaceships to play Crystal Maze style games and avoid pirates/replicants/aliens(?) who were out for blood?
It had really elaborate sets and looked a lot like series 6 of Red Dwarf in terms of general visual design.
I want to say it was an ITV Saturday evening effort.

Speaking of Saturday evening TV, what's everyone's thoughts on You Bet. I was a big fan of some of the shit talents people had, such as toppling over 20 paper cups with a footbal in 30 seconds. It was also home to the mighty talents of Rowland Rivron and Bruno Brooks. Some lovely alliteration.

I think it was quite a short lived series, but I definitely remember it. Don’t remember if it was actually any good mind you.

Ambitious if nothing else. The whole thing is done in character, no Crystal Maze style winking at the camera.
This clip still has all the ad breaks in it, original 1994 adverts.

It certainly was not awful it was in fact doogy rev! A lot like a televised escape room at times before escape rooms were actually created.

If nothing else, this thread has highlighted that 7-10 years is quite a long time when you're a kid. I don't recognise most of the toys at all.

I remember when TMHT appeared on CBBC with no fanfare, I was the only one in my class to watch it and I could not believe how incredible it was. I went into school the next day and told my friends about it and they thought I made it up!

Forgotten TV gems eh?
Parallel 9
On the Going Live/Live and Kicking slot. Think there were two seasons which alternated with Live and Kicking. Bizarre and brilliant. The wizard type bloke Mercator (with very long eyebrows) had committed crimes against the time line or something and was frozen in some big crystal cage. He’s then banished to the dimension of Parallel 9.
Brian the pink dinosaur from Rotheram was the leather jacketed music reviewer who loved AC/DC.
I dare say this would have captured the imagination of most FG’ers but I think it was just too different for the mainstream and it was sadly canned.
It’s so little remembered that for many years I thought I’d Mandela-effected the whole thing but here it is:

A handful of other live action stuff from back then:
Century Falls - posh rural kids with psychic powers that made their nose bleed. Very dark. Nobody remembers it.
Archer’s Goon - based on Diana Wynn-Jones’ book (never read it). A kid is terrorized by the titular goon and then it’s revealed that there are all these gangs and fiefdoms running the town, like the bin men and sewage workers. Really can’t remember much detail but it was brilliant.
Demon Headmaster - I guess everybody remembers this. Is this the one where there was a big super machine/computer revealed as the big bad at the end? That could have been Archer’s Goon. The Behemoth or The Leviathan I seem to remember?
Round the Twist - without my pants, without my pants.
Children’s Ward - simultaneously boring and terrifying. Noped out of this one.
Byker Grove - literally all I remember is the ‘one of us’ cult, THAT paintball moment that traumatised a generation, and the fire.
