Random thing I found while channel hopping - there’s a channel I’ve never heard of called AYOZAT… seems mostly interested in strongman competitions and is so standard def that it looks like everything was filmed on a potato, but it does show a programme called TNA’s Greatest Matches - some very good 2010s-era matches on the one I saw. Joe, Angle, RVD, Hardy… that sort of thing. Worth checking out - think it’s on freeview.
Or watch the matches on YouTube. But where’s the fun in that?

Easy to forget how big TNA was here in the UK.

It’s something I’ve always said. If you put pro wrestling on a time slot that makes sense, keep it consistent and don’t move it around to make way for whatever else is the priority is that week, and above all else, don’t treat the people who watch it like idiots, then people will tune in and advertisers will see that.
TNA was a winner for C5. AEW has done just fine for ITV. But back in the day Channel 4 had WWF near its peak of popularity… and absolutely fucked it. Channel 5 didn’t do much better with WCW either.

I saw TNA in 2010 in Manchester MEN. It wasn’t anywhere near packed, as we got bumped down to better seats.
Amazing Red b. Suicide and Chris Sabin Rob Terry b. Eric Young ‘The Pope’ D’Angelo Dinero b. Rhino AJ Styles b. Daniels, Samoa Joe and Hernandez Kurt Angle b. Desmond Wolfe Sarita and Taylor Wilde b. The Beautiful People in a tag team match Team 3D b. The British Invasion and Beer Money in a tag team Tables match
I think wrestling is certainly hotter than it was back then though. You’ve got to give credit to AEW for that. But it certainly helps that AEW have consistently been on ITV, whereas I remember TNA was channel hopped for years and they didn’t show Impact for a number of years, as I would torrent it weekly.

TNA Sunday at 9 on Challenge was a very dependable slot for a few years too. They occasionally showed “cinematic” feud histories that were basically just all the promo videos and highlights of a feud stitched together into a single narrative those were entertaining, if a little long.
I quite liked the C5 WCW Worldwide show that used to be on 7 or 8 on a Friday. Nitro and Thunder highlights starting just in time for when I got in from 7-a-side.

Some interesting UK WCW info
My earliest Nitro memory was watching Rey getting lawn darted into the side of a truck!
WCW was definitely on ITV in the early 90s too. I have memories of Lex Luger.

Bravo used to show ECW as well.
We didn’t have Sky but a neighbour did and he’d tape WWF and ECW stuff then pass it around. I remember all the excitement we had for guys like Tazz and Mike Awesome as champs going to WWF and WCW. Plus all your Dreamers, Sandmans, RVDs, Sabus etc of course.
It feels a very long way from the endless iterations of Real Housewives that Bravo produces now.

Ah I misremembered - TNA was Challenge not C5. Getting on freeview was a big deal as they could point to their ratings being higher than WWE in the UK as that was behind a paywall.
I was thinking of WCW ON C5 - not the worst time slot but it was really let down by the continuity announcers treating it as a child’s programme. Still, not the car crash that the channel 4 broadcasts were.
I do remember WCW being on Sunday afternoon ITV back in the revolving ring days. Whatever became of Stunning Steve Austin?

And don’t forget to cut to a crowd shot for every chair shot or anything that wasn’t an Arm Bar.
But don’t worry because there’s some rugby on or something so it’s not on this week, and if it is on it’ll be 2am and the chair shots will still be cut out.

SD possibly going to 3hrs. At least the first episode back on the USA network will be. Raws definitely been better this year and SD often feels rushed but I reckon an extra 15 minutes is all that's needed(as long as they keep the amount of ad breaks the same).

Can we talk about Ospreay/PAC yet?
I've not seen the entire PPV yet (only the first half) but that was a MOTY candidate and MJF/Garcia was very good too!

It feels weird that I enjoy RAW over Smackdown, when I typically complain about it being 3 hrs (although add breaks are make it less).
I haven't seen All Out. I'll wait for ITV.

I've only seen the obvious bits social media was talking about. women's hardcore match was fun but expected when you have two solid wrestlers. Willow got a real bum deal by Mones creative control. Mone might be the biggest con artist in the business getting 7m a year off Tony while needing to be carried like she does.
As for Swerve and Hangman.. shit like that isn't needed in any match. Syringing another opponent in the mouth is the sort of dumb stuff you see in backyard wrestling.
Mox suffocating Bryan right up with hanging Bossman levels of dumb. I don't rate Perry but that was a brilliant sell of the flying knee. Was like the insurance mini game in Saints Row..

I'm sure it has been justified, that it's fine for suffocation.. because we see people going through tables etc ha. I think it's a step too far.. probably on the level of Cody setting himself on fire.

Just watched a bit more.
Cracking match from Willow/Statlander, one of the best I've seen Willow in. Really hope she starts getting near the World Title picture soon.
4-Way for the Continental Championship was decent but nothing spectacular. Hope they get Okada into some singles matches soon (though I like how they're building him and enjoy his comedic chops!).
Great PPV so far (minus the Bucks match obviously).

I swear Sasha Banks was really good but seems like no one is into Mone.
What gives? Believing her own hype? Past injuries taken a step off her pace?

Not watched any of her non-wwe stuff, but it's weird to hear that she's apparently now really bad.

Mercedes was always a mediocre wrestler but the Sasha Banks "Boss" gimmick along with WWE production elevated her above her station and her financial worth.
There also usual tribal elements at play. When she left WWE, lots of fans of that product were clamouring for her to return. When she did return - but to AEW - she got a lot of resentment.
There's far better women's wrestlers at AEW. Have to say though, that Bayley Sasha NXT match from Takeover Brooklyn 7 years ago is one of my fave matches of all time.

She's never been great at promos and they are at a new level of bad now days. That stupid CEO dance she does. (She should have kept the Mone entrance music she used in Japan). Can't deliver her own finisher 90% of the time. And yeah injuries seem to have caught up with her. Her only good matches since becoming Mone have been when her opponent can carry her.
