Good luck clemfandango!
I went two months without any alcohol (I wasn't able to moderate as any drink at all would turn into a bottle of spirits). I'm currently on holiday and have had a beer every other evening.
I miss whiskey so bad! š¤£š¤£

I didnāt drink at all in January and then went to only drinking Friday and Saturday from that point onwards
Like anything itās about trying to create a new habit, not stopping the old one

Made myself a Gimlet and had that Father Ted ālovely fagsā moment but with booze I hear you. The first Menabrea was divine. I didn't need the 2nd but had it anyway. I now feel bad as it wasnt remotely as enjoyable. Craft gin (Otterbeck Distillery Cotton Garden Gin) is nice. Citrusy, with some floral notes and a nice smooth finish. Not the nicest I've had from them (that is definitely the Rock Rose Coastal gin) but worth my readies.

I love my gin, usually go for Plymouth as a general cocktail staple but they had tanqueray on offer in Sainoās. A friend of mine has a distillery up in Kintyre so I get the luxury stuff off her, itās pricey but itās my absolute go to for a martini

Fresh lime juice, or roses though, the forum awaits the verdict!

Gimlet is two parts gin, one part lime juice, sugar to taste which is about 0.5 for me. Lime cordial optional, a dash of orange bitters can be nice too, I never bother with either of them though, cordial just takes up precious space in the drinks cabinet

I've made mine wrong in the past then, i was 1:1 gin:cordial. No sugar, very warming on a cold night.
We have cordial since the missus like a soda & lime, lime juice looks more aesthetically pleasing though.

Noting wrong with a 1:1 gin and cordial, pretty old school. If you like the taste of cordial then go for it, Iām not a huge fan personally so I donāt miss it

elstoof - Similar drinks cabinet in Eleven63 towers. On the subject of too much booze. I drink beer 99% of the time. Too much of it, probably. A glass of something bubbly on special occasions - basically Christmas day and New year's Eve. The odd whiskey, or G&T. But that's it. So I'm a healthy drinker ššš»

The smell of red bull & vodka takes me back to going out clubbing.
Can almost feel the need for arms in the air at the breakdown in a trance tune. š

I'm at a point where it's almost worrying. I got a job in a fellow british mates pub about 6 months ago to keep me sane (I'm hyper social - if I'm not around people, I get a bit feral), and the constant exposure to booze has not been conducive to a healthy lifestyle. I just quit because I'm back to regular work with decent hours again so hopefully that'll put a cap on things, but I'm more often than not jonesing for a lager all day every day.
Time to dry the fuck out.

Been a while since I've bought a bottle mind, it shot up in price! I prefer to keep my gin drinking simple. I like to taste the gin, not get distracted by flavoured tonic or other ingredients. Remember you saying at the Other Place about your friend. My best mate's cousin runs the distillery on Harris, it's a sublime gin. He brought me a bottle in the summer, they won't deliver down here! The gin glasses are wicked too.

Yeah I steer clear of anything with unusual botanicals thrown at it, pink peppercorns and whatnot arenāt for me, I drink gin for the juniper. Picked up some nice local bottles while travelling the U.K. on holidays over lockdown, there was a really good one near Chester. Couldnāt stomach the York gin though

Garrr. Guess i have to weigh in here. The idea is I go cold turkey tomorrow from ~6 a night. Bit scary but I can sort the withdrawal if it happens, enough 24hr joints round here.

The gin glasses are wicked too. Gin is my thing. I strongly recommend St. George's Botanivor and Terroir, Nolet's (reserve if possible, but silver is great), and Mahon. Absolutely top of the pack. Pair them with a decent tonic from London Essence, Q or Fever Tree and you're in for a treat.

Mahon as in Xoriguer from menorca? Grew up on that, my family have a place on the other side of the harbour from the distillery

That's the stuff. Goes great with Fever Tree Mediterranean tonic and a slice of lime.
While I'm on the subject, snap up a bottle of Hendricks Midsummer if you see it. Stuff is gold.

Ended up getting some 8%, 9% and 12% imperial stouts this evening.
Noticed that Master of Malt are registering interest in a single bottle allocation of a 55-year old Yamazaki single malt.
I'm quite tempted to register my interest. I wont be able to afford it, but I *am* interested.
(and I really, really mean I wont be able to afford it. a 50yo Yamazaki fetched over US$340k at auction a few years ago. notice the k.)

Weirdest stuff I drank recently was Paul John Indian single malt. Remarkably smooth, complex and almost has a cumin edge to it.
