The only game released this year that I can recall playing is Starfield. Which I got bored of very quickly.
So by default it's the most dissappointing game, but think it would hold that title even if I'd played more this year.

I had read somewhere, can't remember where, that there was talk of this not being a UE5 game from the get go. As in it was purely meant to be UE4 but higher ups wanted a show stopper so the team had to do a crash course and changed midway to UE5 and obviously this was the result. I could well believe it as the performance I've seen does seem shocking. A show stopper it certainly is, emphasis on stopper, as the game occasionally comes to a halt I wouldn't trust any game made in UE5 yet, at least not for another year or two. It only officially became "production ready" roughly 1 year ago, so anything releasing now was largely built on tech that wasn't ready for shipping a game and even now we're only seeing essential improvements to the headline features of UE5 coming in updates. Anything that's released so far will have had to been realtively hastily put together on new tech that isn't fully understood by third parties yet, not least because of how bad Epic is at documenting literally anything.

Duffking I definitely agree with you on that, devs still need to find their footing with Unreal 5.

That said, I'd still rather be playing something like Starfield than anything on offer in the Sony camp. You're really missing out tbh. I jumped ship from Xbox to PS at the begininning of the last gen and I've never looked back. There's nothing on Xbox than can compete with what Sony are putting out. Not to come across like some kind of wittering fanboi but their exclusives have been some of the best games I've ever played. I also went from X360 to PS4, which was the right choice, but I'm just not a fan of the action games Sony are putting out. As technically accomplished as they are, I have no desire to play yet another superhero sequel, or linear action game. I'm a 40 year old man and I think I'm just growing tired of the AAA space. I crave more depth from my games. I think I'm going to go back to PC and start playing simpler games. I love games like FTL, X-COM and Gwent because of the strategy. I'm developing my own version of Gwent at the mo, just for quick ad-hoc games on my phone.

Alan Wake 2.
Numerous reasons which I have gone into detail over on the Alan Wake 2 thread.
Just so over-rated. I think critics have forgotten what actually makes a good game.

Redfall as well actually. I had some fun in co op but it's an arkane game so my expectations were high. If it were some unknown developer I'd have just happily enjoyed it's average fun co op stuff but arkane make some of my favourite games.

Oh right, it's just you mentioned Starfield which is as AAA as you can get, so was the only frame of reference I had. Hey ho.

Yeah, if we’re taking Xbox AAA versus Sony AAA, it’s been so incredibly one sided for the past four years. Outside of Forza Horizon 5, Microsoft have seemingly dropped the ball so badly, they can’t even find the ball, let alone pick it back up.
But if we’re talking AAA console exclusives in general, it’s possibly the weakest and least exciting category(?) of gaming.

It's a bizarre choice of footage for Starfield, the Mario stuff isn't great either, but some FPS gloom seems the wrong way to sell a space game, show a spaceship doing stuff or something.
The twat that posts it continues to get dunked and he continues to double down at every opportunity so at least it's funny.

Hopefully temporary gaming disappointment, just fired up Teardown for the first time (out today on PS5/Xbox Series, day one on PS Extra) and there's no invert Y option so I can't actually play it. Plenty of people saying the exact same thing on Twitter directly to the devs so fingers crossed that omission is rectified quickly.

There have actually been three or four games I've bought recently with no invert Y option. You can have a discourse about this as much as you like, but the fact remains there are people like me and your good self and plenty of others that can only play this way. In this age of making games more accessible, it's shocking that more seem to be coming out without what is essentially an incredibly basic option.

I foolishly thought that maybe Teardown was one of those rare games that takes notice of the invert option you can set in your default profile and... nope.

You can play it non-inverted, though. It takes about 15 Minutes to rewire your brain to it. I know it because I was an inverted Y guy for the longest time, until some game came along that didn't let you invert it, so I just switched.

I can’t though. Or I would. Same, every time someone says "oh it only take a few minutes to change over" no, I've been playing games like this since the days of the first 3D games were ever created, my brain is hard wired to inverting Y, no matter how many times people say it's easy I say it's not.

I think I did y invert for Dark Forces and Quake 1 then switched to non invert by Quake 2 and Half Life. Seems like a 90s problem.

I blame it on Goldeneye. Was inverted by default.

I blame it on Goldeneye. Was inverted by default. And Ocarina. And Super Mario 64. And any flight/space game. edit: and Turok (N64).
