Yeah the final final level is a real test, and based on the number of badges must be the longest in the game by a long way.
I've watched a bit of it on YouTube, and I've nearly made the first checkpoint and I reckon I could eventually do it but I've run out of steam a bit...
Climb to the beat level it as an absolute pain alao.

This bloody wall jump 2 challenge. Get to the top then can’t suss how to get the distance. And fall all the way to the bottom. Is that the one with the narrow red spinning platforms that you need to get on the top of? You can go straight up through the middle, you only need to go left to get the purple coin. To get that stand on the top then drop back down on the platform and run when it's at a nice angle to reach across.

Climb to the beat level it as an absolute pain alao. That one is next on my to-do list... *shudders* I already had trouble with the jump, Jump, Jump! level.

Ok, only level left to do now is wall-jump to the beat. Everything else is done. (Although I think I'm still missing a badge somewhere.)
When (if...) that's done I guess there's only the final level left.
This is definitely up there with Celeste on my list of favourite 2D platformers.

I did the jump to the beat level the other day. Well, I say I did it, I actually failed near the end and was saved by a handy standee placed right at the end. After probably about 40 attempts, I'm counting it as a win.

I used the floaty jump badge to get through it, but it does make getting to the end in time before platforms start disappearing tricky.

I've been using the spin jump badge exclusively. That really has been a lifesaver. Only on the wall jump level, not so much.
I got to the third purple coin once though, but then my brain caught up with me 😋.
Yesterday I bought 99 lives as preparation, that should be enough.

Gah. I’m on the final word, I think (minus the special world). Just haven’t been able to make time for playing anything this week. I have, to the best of my knowledge fully completed every stage I’ve played, though. Purple coins, flag poles and all. Are there only two stages for each type of challenge?
I’ve also yet to hit a brick wall, in regards to the difficulty, but my impatience has cost me a few lives on certain stages.

It's all pretty easy until the special world, but you've probably missed a few stages that'll need mopping up if you want to go to the very end.

Well, it took me at least 200 tries, but I've finally beaten the wall jump to the beat level! For me this was almost Dark Souls levels of frustration. At one point I could get consistently to the final bit and always mess it up there. Heart rate and stress levels showing up on my Garmin watch even 😁.
Now, onto the final level...

Ok, final level also done. After wall jump to the beat that was actually quite doable 😄.
Now, the final final level... Well, I got past the first bit and into the second. It's crazy but it does not seem undoable (yet).

I'm really enjoying this but Mario still feels the tiniest bit slippy/floaty - not as bad as the NSMB games but also not as precise as I'd like - anyone else find this?
Super Mario World spoiled us 30+ years ago.

Super Mario World is a fair bit slower I think. In part due to the general level design, but it was certainly a step down after SMB3 and I think most Mario games since are based on that one.
I wouldn’t say it’s slippery, personally, but it is difficult to counter momentum you’ve built up if you want to change direction. It’s certainly not Mario 64 slippery, which really does age that game quite badly, but you do kinda have to fully commit to movement when sprinting. There’s little room for correction.

Super Mario World just felt so precise - you could stop instantly and it felt like you had a little more air control too.
I'm only 5-6 levels in so I'm sure I'll get used to it more as time goes by.

I'm sure you'll get used to it. Wonder is indeed nowhere near as floaty as the NSMB games. In fact, I think I held down the dash button 90% of the time and had no problems correcting for the inertia. Are you using the d-pad or stick?

D-Pad on the Pro Controller

D-pad on the Split Pad pro here 🙂. Analog stick + 2D mario simply does not feel "right".

I’m using the stick on the Joy Con, come to think of it. Back when the Switch launched I wasn’t sure either the stick or buttons would be good enough for 2D games, but I’ve grown to prefer them over a regular d-pad in most instances.
I even have the NES Joycon, but I use that exclusively for puzzle games, it seems.

I use the d-pad, although there are quite a few moments when you it has clearly been designed with the analogue stick in mind (mainly with some of the wonderseed shifts).
I expect most 2d platforms nowadays are made assuming people will use the sticks, but I generally go with the d-pad out of habit.

High Voltage Gauntlet is giving me some very serious Sonic 1 on the Master System vibes. It’s practically plagiarism, but it’s a decent stage!

And that is another Mario platformer done and dusted! What an excellent little game. The level design is top notch (though I would argue not much better than SMBU), but the updated presentation and audio do push it closer to the realm of excellence. The power-ups are great. I was a big fan of the bubble one (that doubles up as a temporary platform boost), but the elephant in particular is a reminder that this is a game for all ages and so isn't going to be as challenging as some Mario veterans would like. Having said that, I was about to come in here and say that I managed to beat the very final Gauntlet level on my first try, but then appeared a second gauntlet level specifically for the badges and that kicked my backside for the best part of an hour. I had to replay it a second time just because I had missed the first purple coin! But it was an excellent addition and genuinely got the blood pumping. The absolute best part about the game though, and what elevates it for me amongst the likes of SMB2, SMB3 and World is the online component. I've already explained why in other threads, but it has been one of the most wholesome online experiences I can remember. It's almost the perfect implementation of multiplayer in a platformer that you can get. Nobody can disrupt your game and your flow, but you can make time to help others and support them through every moment of the game (if you wish). The further I played into the game the more I noticed others doing that almost exclusively. Players hanging around checkpoints to dish out power-ups, like you're all participating in some kind of marathon, catching a bottle of water mid-race. And theres no grief, no abuse or trolling. It's exclusively a positive environment and one I wish more games could implement. In a way it's a bit of a shame its over. I have all the medals, so there's nothing else left to mop up. The final reward will certainly amuse me when I inevitably replay this game in the future, but now I am at a bit of a loss as to what to play next. I might just take a few days to savour the experience.

Aaaand done!
That Final Final level. Fuuuck.
Had to cheat a bit by getting a 2nd controller involved at the very very end, you'll know the bit I mean.
Fantastic experience, can't believe how Nintendo keep pulling it out the bag.

Nicely done. I managed to complete the final final level a few weeks ago and it felt like a real achievement. I didn't do any 2nd controller like shenanigans, but I did end up being revived during the wall jumping section, allowing me to skip the last few jumps. It was lovely actually, as there were a few of us following one another throughout to help each other out.
Technically I haven't totally 100%ed the game, as I missed the 2nd big coin (the one in the dolphin badge section. I did go back and collect it, but didn't complete the level again, so it hasn't been logged, but I basically have done 100%.
Mario RPG is a lot of fun too.
