I could be wrong but I remember reading the success of Batman 89 especially from a merch angle was very instrumental in making toys out of anything and everything. Case in point McDonald's and the toy companies losing their shit at how fucking weird Batman Returns was and how the fuck were they going to market toys on this bizarre superhero movie.

I remember those - The Robocop toy line had a very cool ED-209 that fired caps. There was also a pretty sucky Terminator 2 line (sadly no eye-impaling action) and a much better Aliens line, the highlight being a sweet Alien Hive playset that I had for years and eventually turned into a lamp. Sadly a girlfriend decided it was "ugly" and it got chucked.

I remember a lot of the toys. That Terminator had toys and games was insane. It'd be the equivalent of making toys based on Saw or new Judge Dredd

I didn’t have any Terminator but I had loads of Aliens stuff and a Robocop.
I wouldn’t be surprised if TMNT was a big factor in stuff like the Toxic Avenger cartoon getting made. My hazy memory is that it was very similar, the toys especially.

For a while they'd basically make a cartoon out of anything. Bill & Ted; Free Willy; MC Hammer; Little Shop of Horrors; New Kids on the Block; The Brendan Fraser Mummy movies... all terrible.

The Terminator 2 toy I saw on commercials a lot was the one where you put the T-800 endoskeleton in a mould to cover it in a flesh colored putty.

Tales From The Crypt too Beetlejuice as well but I guess thats more kid friendly. Wasn’t there a superhero team with Jordan and Waynr Gretski using magic sports powers

IIRC there was some weird thing where after they started making Ghostbusters (the film) they realised this old TV show existed, and they didn't know if they were going to get the rights to the name. So every time they said "Ghostbusters" in the film they also shot an alternate take where they said something like "Ghoststoppers". It might even be the reason the logo is the "no ghost" sign, because they didn't know what the film would be called.

Rude Dog and the Dweebs. Now that takes me back.
Denver the Last Dinosaur had a banging theme tune to be fair.

Anyone ever wonder why Rude Dog wasn't actually rude? Actually all things considered he was quite polite.

Rude Dog and the Dweebs. Now that takes me back. Denver the Last Dinosaur had a banging theme tune to be fair. He was our friend and, on reflection, a whole lot more. Also, for some reason, off the back of Dink the Dinosaur, the word "dink" became an insult in our playground. I dunno why, I remember Dink seeming like an okay sorta guy.

Speaking of which, going into the first lockdown with a 13 month old those presenters were basically a third parent in our house. I'll forever be grateful to the BBC for that. The Baby Club programme was genuinely the only chance my infant had to see other babies, other than in books.

To be fair I the first digitised voice on a video game I remember was on the Ghostbusters ZX Spectrum game, and they could very well have been saying “GHOSTMASHERS!”

I’d be remiss to not add shows like Going Live and Live & Kicking, purely because it was an open invitation for teenagers to phone in and swear at the pop stars of the day.
And does anyone remember how frustrating it was that they’d only show cartoons ten minutes at a time and split them up at either end of the show. Which as a kid you’d feel went on for an eternity.

More so on Live & Kicking as I wanted to continue watching Spider-Man but I would have to either go through a terrible skit by Trevor & Simon or the phone in sessions to ask questions to the celebs, usually a boyband.

Re: spooky kids' TV, I once had a promo banned and pulled off the air for being too scary.
Rather pathetically, I'm still quite chuffed about that.
