It is of course possible that he acted alone - 16 year olds are big and stupid enough. I'm just not convinced they did it alone.

My suspicions are "why?" as much as how.
Tag the wall, set the tree on fire, have a drug fuelled rave. That sounds like 16 year old shenanigans.
Expertly fell a 50 - 60 foot tree at night?
What's his next crime? Controlled demolition of a derelict tower block?

Not that I'm an armchair chainsaw expert but gravity will pull the tree if you cut on the far side, away from whatever direction it's already leaning in. Aye, you'd take a wedge out of the side you want it to fall towards, then cut the other side afaik (also not a chainsaw expert by any means) So a pretty amateurish attempt if it fell on the wall, unless that's what they wanted of course.

Or they just didn’t care which way it fell, just that it did.

What's his next crime? Controlled demolition of a derelict tower block? This is what I keep coming back to. Why? I have friends in Northumberland and there's a lot of small communities out there, many of which are extremely isolated and need access to things like chainsaws, so youths definitely have free access to them. But to specifically drive out there with one, then cut down the tree for a "wild time" just doesn't add up. The people up there aren't like that. It's not a good prank, or a statement of any kind. It's just mindless. I'm so angry about it, because I have good memories of walks along Hadrian's wall and Sycamore Gap. If I ever came face to face with who did it, I'd first ask them why, and unless it was a good answer, I'd have no reservations about beating the shit out of them.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it turned out that he/they did it for a TikTok video.

Transgressional behaviour in teenagers is older than social media.
But sure, it could be for attention on social media as much as anything else.

16 year olds can turn out to be impressively competent and impressively fucking stupid all at the same time. The joys of adolescence.

And to remove the tree, presumably they'll need to bring in the
Flying Squad.

This is what I keep coming back to. Why? Assuming you were 16 once, is it so hard to work out? People took joy from it, a little wanker decided to snatch it away.

Some people are awful, and they have such miserable, empty lives they can only destroy things others like.
I'm not 100% sure the teenager did this by himself, but I can believe they would.
I just hope whoever did this continues to have a sad hollow life and will never have a quantum of happiness. I hope they wake up everyday feeling unloved and shit and die a slow lonely death.

When I was 16 I had my first proper girlfriend, she took me to a tree that was special to her. Her grandparents used to picnic underneath it, with dappled light shining on them trough the canopy of chestnut leaves they’d spend hours talking about their plans for the future until the sun set below the horizon. Just before her grandfather went to war, they carved their names together and said they’d come back when in a few months when it was all over but he never returned. The son he never got the chance to meet proposed to his wife under the tree 30 years later, now their daughter took me there and we shared our first kiss and carved our own names to begin our own chapter in the story, feeling as though the day would never end and wished it never would. But when I was told she’d been seen kissing Darren outside Play 2 Win a few weeks later I went back and cut the cunt down with a chainsaw, that fucking bitch deserved it

Rumours going around that this farmer had been evicted last Thursday, so petty revenge.
