Got it preloaded too. Be careful spoilers are around for this right now, some really big ones.

I always do this. Despite liking Spiderman, and the games, I had no interest in this.
Now it's around the corner, I want.
I promised myself I wouldn't buy another full price game until I cleared my backlog, but...
Might request it for Christmas.

Not sure if it has been mentioned here, but Currys have a 15% code for a pre-order on Spider-Man 2. The code is WEBSLINGER15. Not quite as good as the 25% they often do for Switch games, but brings it down to just under £60. Cheers for this, that's a tenner saved! Better arrive in release day or the boy will be mighty pissed off

Reviews live in over half an hour, ass temps are quite pumped for this despite barely any big buzz in the gaming press over this. That's probably also due to Sony's rather limited marketing of it. Tbf I think they already know it's going to sell stupidly well that they don't even need to market it compared to how much they did for the OG and Miles Morales.

Seem to be spending all their marketing budget on plastering posters for it on bus stops all over the south east, from what I've seen on my travels.

Interesting. Where I am that kind of marketing isn't really a thing.

Those reviews at the top building up the hype. The lower ones seem a little more measured and probably nearer the truth (some great narrative beats, mixed with not so great; really strong gameplay, but mostly more of the same; a bit safe), but can't wait.
I thought this was actually out next week. I must have been getting dates mixed up with the Alan Wake 2 release date. Still have a bit more of Miles Morales to finish off with my replay, so had better get that sorted.
Also have Mario Wonder coming on the same day, so this is going to be a good week!

Christ. Sounds like a lot of performance based modes/options.
I may be an old fart in this respect but I like consoles because you just get the intended version and that’s that. If I wanted to make decisions about frame rate versus fidelity I’d get a PC.

I guess they kinda have to now seeing as this gen in particular people, well, the internet really is fixated on resolution and frame rates and they like that granular control. I always play Insomniac's recent output in quality mode first then because they really push the boat out then I go for performance RT on a second go. I don't have a 120hz TV so it takes this very first world issue out of my hands.

I need to have a look and see if 120hz modes work on my TV now (older one so can only do 1440p/120 instead of native 4K) 40FPS mode always seems like the sweet spot with Insomniac games.

I prematurely ejected my webs when I saw the high end reviews.
Then I remembered the cheapest it seems to be available is just under £60.
For a sequel that largely reuses the same set of assets all be it in a super shiny fashion that's too pricey for my old school bones. Ill be patient for a few months probably until next spring by which time it will be full patched up and hopefully £45 or so on the 2nd "like new" hand market.
Also playing Gotham Knights on GP on XBS at the moment and its actually pretty good. It's pretty unimaginative tbh especially the open world filler missions but the main line quests are decent and its quite fun to play. I also enjoy the batcycle!
Batgirls where its at! If your gonna plan a Gotham game and be the hero... its gotta be a bat-character every time! Robin you can do one buddy!

I always play in quality mode. When I was young my pc was shit so I got used to playing at about 5 fps or less.

People seem to genuinely like the choice so I’m sure it’s just me. I just find it a bad experience having to make that decision before I even start playing. Like straight away I’m wondering if I’ve made the wrong choice before it’s even loaded up. Just takes the shine off a little.

Which is annoying me because I only started Immortals Rising Fenyx a couple days back which I’m enjoying so far. Suppose with them and Super Mario Wonder I'm set for the the rest of the year.

I pretty much always google it just to make sure high frame rate is the right choice.

I spend the first 3 hours of any game these days flicking between performance and fidelity, inevitably choosing performance and then spending half the game with a twinge of regret in the back of my head that I might be missing out on incredible shinies I half bought the PS5 for in the first place on the other mode. To be fair Insomniac games are probably the most palatable as they always come through with a nice 'in between' mode. But I can still easily see Friday night basically consisting of me sitting on top of a tall building and panning the camera around across 27 different graphics settings.

When a game is an exclusive on one console I feel like it should just be designed around that console’s specific capabilities.

This is where still have a 1080p tv helps a lot. Although I do often think about moving the PS5 downstairs to the main TV to experience shines.

Modern gaming:
1) download and install game … …… ……. 2) download and install patch … ….. 3) download and install another patch 4) google ‘which graphics mode is best?’ 5) read half a dozen conflicting Reddit posts 6) skip to 28:34m of the digital foundry video 7) finally play the fucking game 8) spend the next 20 hours wondering if you made the right choice even though you can’t really tell the difference.

All games: whichever looks best unless it’s very unstable and irritating, racing games if it’s just a bit unstable.
I’ve been through that phase and you spend ages trying to do a side by side comparison, eventually deciding it doesn’t really matter 99% of the time.

I typically just pick anything above 30fps. In this case I’ll probably do the 40fps jobby as the tv will smooth out the rest. Otherwise I’d go straight for 60.

I liked that out of the options available on Forza Motorsport, one of them said "this is the recommended setting"
It just happened to be the performance mode, so decision easily made...

Yeah I think that’s the right compromise. Some level of validation just to put your mind somewhat at ease. It’s a little thing but I think it makes quite a big difference.

Something I haven’t figured out: if you have a 1080p telly like I do, does the ps5 render at 4k (or whatever) and scale down?
eg Will I - as a small, cheap tv owner - get better frame rates in Fidelity mode over some nerd with a 4k telly?

Just finished watching the DF video I still find it silly that Insomniac have released 4 games for the PS5 and that the game has ray tracing in every mode with apparently barely any bugs and how it runs so solid. They're definitely one of my favourite devs out there right now.

It’s impressive but also fairly constrained. I think what was done with Metro Exodus was closer to the real deal. Control wasn’t bad either albeit with a shit frame rate .
Impressive output from Insomniac though and they’re all lookers.
