Was that Phin in particular? No, mainly the spider-men. They just came off as judgemental busybody pricks and pretty much everything that happened was a result of them fucking something else up. It really started to get on my tits by the end. Tbf, I do generally find that kind of earnest, comic book heroism doesn’t translate well off the page so maybe it’s just me, but I found myself rooting for the carjackers.

I’m a bit of an outlier in the gaming world it seems as I never really got the love for the first game. It was just another Spider-Man game, doing pretty much exactly the same things the other 70 versions that came before it did, just a bit prettier. Oh look, I’m swinging through NY. Again. As bog standard an open world action game as I’ve played, just with even more boring filler activities. Je suis une curmudgeon. Are you on meth?

Interesting, I'm actually quite a sucker for that earnest comic book heroism really so I'm all in that kind of shit. I personally couldn't stand Phin but the brevity of the story worked against it's attempts to humanise her so she didn't really earn her ending.

Can’t wait to start spraying my web about town again and shouting at the tv “in your face and don’t do it again you miscreant”.
The shoppers or Guildford high street don’t accept it so well down Saturday market so they’ll be pleased too…

You're not the only one - it always felt a little shallow to me and a typical open world game with a Spider-Man skin. Possibly sacrilege but I don't really get on with Insomniac's games - they look spectacular but feel like style over substance. Haven't loved a game of theirs since Spyro 2.

That's quite the skin for what they made.

It is - they're incredible developers, wish I could click with their games the way others do.

Most games can be oversimplified to that level if you want to though. You can even do it with the genres biggest game GTA V.

Didn't think I did but to go a little deeper - the game had sky high production values and was mechanically sound but had very little depth or originality. It didn't do for Spider-Man what Arkham Asylum did for Batman, not for me anyway.

I was a bit sad at how hard I bounced off the new Ratchet and Clank game. Looked nice but it was so boring.

Resistance 3 was the best SP FPS of that generation tho

Have to say I also am not the biggest fan of Insomniac. I always felt they somehow got a bit of a halo effect off Naughty Dog.

I gave it a decent shot but it just didn’t do it for me at all. I have played and completed the rest, so maybe I’m just sick of them.

R&C games are like supermarket fruit.

R&C games are like supermarket fruit. Never looked at a R&C game and thought… why the hell would anyone in their sane mind think that it’s right to sell every single piece of fruit (apples and pears) with its own individual barcode sticker on it (stop it Sainsy B’s you muppets) but there you go!

Be nice if Sainsbury's would hand out platinum trophies if you complete the fruit and veg section like the one I got with Rift Apart.

Big Insomniac fan, only thing of theirs I haven't enjoyed was that FPS series with the aliens.
I even liked Disruptor.
I'm sure Spidey 2 will be ace and the fact they've got Wolverine next makes me incredibly hard, er, I mean, excited.

Not sure if it has been mentioned here, but Currys have a 15% code for a pre-order on Spider-Man 2. The code is WEBSLINGER15. Not quite as good as the 25% they often do for Switch games, but brings it down to just under £60.

Already seen people on Reddit wetting themselves that the campaign is around 15-20hrs long. Oh no!

15-20 hours sounds the perfect length for this sort of game...
How Long To Beat has the first game at 17 hours.

Anything over 20 hours I usually struggle, unless it's an RPG. I'd rather not play hours and hours of padding. Respect my damn time.

Yeah, around the 15-20 hours mark for an open world game is music to my ears. Obviously the playtime is going to go up if you want to 100% every area, but the core story being done and dusted in 20 hours without any bullshit level gating etc is exactly what I want.
I'm playing Jedi Survivor at the moment and it's on the edge of outstaying its welcome and I've got another two acts to go still.

Fifteen to twenty hours means that I will get about forty hours out of the first play through. Not that I am getting it at launch. Still haven’t finished TotK.
